I thought I'd chime in here and say that I agree with Nicola's post wholeheartedly. I had a total healthy dental revision nearly 6 months ago. I've experienced amazing results because of it. One huge victory was that by removing the 17 amalgams I have been cured of the Chronic Epstein Barr Virus that had plagued me for so many years. I'll say it again -- this was an enormous victory!
About a month and a half ago I had an Adrenocortex Stress Profile saliva test done to diagnose/rule out Adrenal Fatigue. This test measured my cortisol levels and my DHEA levels. I'd already been tested previously for other hormones and it was found that I was estrogen dominant and lacking in enough progesterone during previous tests. I've been using a phamaceutical grade natural progesterone cream for that.
But I had never been formally tested for adrenal function. Anyway, I was positively diagnosed with Adrenal Fatigue. My cortisol levels were as low as could be. Weirdly, my DHEA levels were high -- and I don't supplement with DHEA. We're still trying to figure that one out.
I have been pretty sick for so many years (and had been trying to boost my adrenals naturally with glandulars and other supplements). Given that I was still in a bad way, I elected to take the recommendation of my doctors and I'm taking a bio-identical form of cortisol -- 5 mg. 3 times a day.
While it's only been a month, it's made a huge difference. My holistic, biological dentist told me months ago that he thought I was a candidate for being treated for Adrenal Fatigue. He evidently sees it alot, especially in people who develope Chronic Epstein Barr Virus as a result of mercury amalgams.
I had 3 docs tell me independently (and unsolicited by my questioning them on this) that they felt I needed to supplement with physiological doses of bio-identical cortisol.
Another thing I've been reading about is copper toxicity. It seems to go along with mercury toxicity, from what I've read so far. And copper toxicity or imbalance problems are seen alot in adrenal fatigue patients.
