HI Clare, it's hard to say. Sometimes chelation can cause problems with cavitations. You need to be on a candida diet with cavitations or any infection/toxicity, because the bacteria levels in your jaw and body will be high and you'll need to lower them with the diet big time.
I know that cavitations and other issues can cause serious problems in the gut (seemingly unrelated areas) and when you chelate and you're not on a candida diet, the toxins etc can migrate too easily into the gut and make you severely ill long term.
You may get away with chelation if you address the diet, so that your gut and liver will be in better condition and better prepared to move the toxins and cope. Also, steer clear from things like garlic (particularly in supplement form) and cystein/methionine. I read somewhere that the gram negative anaerobic bacteria from cavitations desulferates the sulfur amino acids (like cystein/methionine) and combined with mercury forms extreme toxic compounds, like methyl mercapton being one. Combined with this, garlic/ cysteine etc, also mobilise toxins, so you can end up not only with worse toxic compounds, but then having them migrate into your gut/liver/brain. This has happened to me and I can tell you the effects were frightening, agonising and long term. I ended up in emergency from using a garlic supplement. This NEVER used to happen to me once, only began to occur after having gum disease and cavitations. So I think there is some truth to that statement. You cannot avoid cysteine/methionine in foods, but this seems to be "ok". It is supplement forms that are the most trouble, because they are concentrated and potent and are designed to be.
But go easy whatever you do. The best things for me were sticking to the candida diet (including no fruit or milk), and using gum treatment to control bacteria levels. Chelation was somewhat helpful to a point, so long as I used it safely, but I think when you have any kind of ongoing infection, i think it's hard to get long term benefits from chelating, as I don't know if the body responds as much, so the diet is probably the best thing at this stage and eating the good fats like butter, extra virgin olive oil, organic coconut oil etc. These help produce bile, they also help heal and can encourage some mercury elimination from accessible areas, so long as you are avoiding the things that feed candida too.

Hi Clare, you're welcome. You just do whatever you feel comfortable with. I don't know if there is any clear answer in this area. I wish there was!
all the best with the cavitation treatment. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Cheers.
