Hi, I've posted before about garlic and my reactions to it are horrific. I never used to have this response and I am not allergic to garlic either. I am sure there are personal reasons why this now occurs (perhaps from jawbone infections etc, maybe weakened immuntiy/damaged blood brain barrier, I don't know), but garlic supplementation is out for me for good. However, I am beginning to think I cannot even have crushed garlic fried either. I can't figure out what it's doing and it is not candida die off either, it does something that harms me long term and it is actually frightening. I barely trust anything anymore I eat or take. But here is a link giving some not so positive views on garlic and those who use it thinking they are doing themselves big favours by using it, may think twice after reading this - http://www.karinya.com/garlic.htm Alot of people are recommended to use it for candida and/or mercury. As it can wipe out candida and can apparently detox mercury. My experience with it anything but positive and provided me with not one benefit, only long term suffering. I wish I knew why, as I used to take it and was "ok". Perhaps it's been since I've become weaker and have less protection than I did, or something else interacting with the garlic inside of me, some other toxin. Certainly, I'd steer clear of this stuff. But that is just from my experience.

I understand. When I was pregnant the last time, I got this silly notion that I was going to do something "good" for myself if I started taking some other supplements (I used to take garlic years ago, and it was ok with me). When I took a garlic capsule, I vomited. I couldn't BELIEVE how sick I got!!! I figured it was because I was pregnant, so I tried them again when I wasn't and the same thing happened. I have to be very careful when I eat anything that contains garlic, so as to not get TOO much. The last time I ate garlic bread (it's been awhile), I still did ok with it, but if anything has very much I get sick, the smell even kind of makes me sick. I have always LOVED garlic, and this makes me so sad. I have thought about this before, and decided that there was a connection with the mercury, because I was never like this before. Any potents smells or flavors bother me now, though.

I'm not buying the whole story. My understanding of garlic is that it is one hell of a potent detoxifier of various sorts of sludge in your body. The more toxic waste you have, the worse your reactions to garlic would be. As they say in some eastern culture, I can't remember which, garlic "makes you angry". Well, yes & no. What it's doing is stirring up old crap stored in the body and an already overworked liver can't handle it. Anger and an overworked, stagnant liver go together, as traditional societies have known for aeons.
So, it would seem to be that if garlic does this to you, it means you need a cleanout of one sort or another. It could be said, therefore, that garlic is a diagnostic tool.

I cant take garlic, it makes me ill, even sometimes if i cook with it, also it doesnt leave me for days, if i cook with just one small clove, my kids dont come near me for about 4 days, they say i stink. I have always known my liver is in a bad way but all tests show normal, i do take milk thistle sometimes.

Hi tracy, yes that is very true. These potent natural agents, just because they are natural, does not mean they are ok under all circumstances and they can be dangeous in the respect that they tend to mobilise toxins wildly and if any part of you is weakened, or not able to keep up, you can end up far more poisoned, in fact, you can actually induce poisoning from using them, as sometimes toxins are in certain areas stored and these things stir them up wildly, garlic being the worst of them. this is no longer healthy, it is risky and does not mean it's a diagnosis, it means you have repoisoned yourself by using high sulfur foods that are not wise in mercury toxicity, when you must move mercury slowly and safely.
Even andy cutler admits that a relatively healthy person that may have a storage of mercury and not show many symptoms, can actually end up with acute toxicity from using high sulfur products/foods.
If your liver wasn't able to eliiminate properly before this, you're certain to end up with a worse problem after using them, as I have been injured severely by garlic. Onions I'm ok with, eggs I'm ok with, but again, they are high sulfur foods and shold all be used with caution in this toxicity. Garlic especially.
Just because some do 'ok" on them, does not mean they are safe, it means a person may not have the problems or sensitivity to their particular toxin that is being mobilised and is lucky enough to have a better funtionig system able to cope with it.
I have no doubts about the top link provided, garlic is potent and how do we know that its safe? AGAIN, because its natural, people assume this automatically means it's safe. We need to hear the other side and ohhhh there's another side to garlic and the more I hear about that stuff, plus other products like cysteine, methionine, whey etc, and how they are touted for use in mercury, the more concerned I get. Two people committed suicide after being put on a cysteine pdouct to detox mercury, instead it mobilised it into brain/nervous system and caused severe depression, suicidal thoughts etc, and finally these people took their own life. Is this worth this risk to say "well it diagnosed them though, it showed they had a problem". COME ON, there are far safer ways of doing that and best peformed by a professional who is well versed in it and is careful.

Garlic is high in sulphur, which mobilizes mercury. This is probably at the root of many of these reactions.

what's interesting is that it has 2 sulphur binding atoms similarly to cheltating agents.

I took a concentrated garlic supplement once and I felt like someone was chasing me, I couldn't get out of bed, I just wanted to close my eyes and hide under the covers, but it didn't help...nothing made me feel better...it was horrible. Never want to feel anything like that again....it was called Toda Gold, buyer beware. It was supposed to help increase circulation and it really circulated the mercury right into my brain.
And yet I eat raw garlic almost daily with no problem at all, must have been the fact that it was so concentrated...scary stuff!!!!

I love raw garlic in my salads , salsas and sauces....!
Maybe since I've detoxed so much prior to amalgam removal- and also afterwards-- with periodic colon cleanses-- liver flushes and an entire diet overhaul to mostly raw fruits and vegetables--raw nuts and nutbutters and absolutely no commercial foods (unless from tiny mom and pop companies making all organic) that my liver is able to withstand any immobilizing of mercury from garlic. (?)
I think when you have mercury toxicity in you- and eat natural chelators like onions, leeks and garlic- you must also do a colon cleanse for a few weeks. Keep the channels open for elimination so mobilized junk can exit. Drink alot of liqiuds also.

It's funny too. I put onions in almost everything that I eat. I love onions. I haven't had a reactions to them (yet), and I hope I don't. They have tasted stronger to me lately, though. I don't know what I would do without garlic AND onions.

The old folks of my Eastern European community, incl. my parents, ate plenty of raw and cooked garlic and felt great afterwards. My point is that the human race is degenerating; we can no longer tolerate cleansing without special help from professionals. Personally, garlic & onions make me feel well, too. Eggs, tho, I can't tolerate too much of. Thanks to everyone here for such interesting input.

Yeah, but I've never had such a bad reaction to garlic in cooking, I got it after using a supplement, so I'm not sure what to think. I think potency is great, but not when it's concentrated into a form like a supplement with garlic being how it is, it's enough in natural form.
I reckon it's over the top when they do that and maybe that is the danger. But again, I used to use it in supplement form and was fine (apart from some movement of mercury that I found too much sometimes), but now? It's not like that with me, it's horrific and I keep putting it down to the other stuff that is wrong with me that has affected the way garlic works inside of me.
