My father is 65 years old and is in fairly good condition for his age. He has a fantastic diet and does quite a bit of hiking and walking. Since I have gotten into this whole mercury debate and am in the middle of my amalgam removal he has taken quite an interest in the whole procedure.
Over the last 5 years or so he is developing a rather nasty type of fatigue that is starting to hinder his exercise, is becoming rather forgetful, spacey, has sleep apnoea, tinnitus, very low testosterone (he uses a combination of herbs and sometimes uses synthetic testosterone), allergies that have just started in the last 5 years and is becoming a bit depressed and listless.
He is avidly waiting to see my prognosis and is well aware that it make take quite some time before I become better. If I did show good results in a year or so I know that he would definately consider going through the removal process.
The reason that I am fearful is that I myself am having a pretty tough time at the moment. My symptoms have been really exasperated since starting the removal. I guess that I would feel really awful if I talked him into undergoing removal and then he winds up feeling really dreadful and wastes a big chunk of his life.
I am only getting 23 surface fillings removed but he has probably about 20 amalgams, numerous gold over amalgam and about 5 root canals.
Does anybody know about the prognosis of people 60+ getting their amalgams removed? Do they fair worse in general? Would he perhaps just be better off trying to manage his symptoms instead or just remove the gold to lessen the metal interaction?
