Ok, I am finally taking the big step! I have a Dr appt Monday with my family dr. He is a really great dr, and due to me not having insurance so long, I haven't been to him in awhile. I have seen him though, when I went in with my husband, a few weeks ago. I told him then, that I have SO many health problems, and that he'd probably be seeing a LOT of me soon.
My husband has his new job, and I have insurance now, so I have made an appt. I am excited and terrified. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />
So, I am going to go right out and tell him, that I have all the symptoms of mercury poisoning, and that I think it is caused by my fillings. I am not sure what his reaction will be. I am wondering if I should just let him "suggest" a test, or should I actually tell him that I would like blood, saliva and urine tests? This is my first attempt at speaking to anyone outside the family about my poisoning, and I have the jitters.

I know over the last few weeks, I have been getting worse. I have had spells of getting sick and getting better. I can feel my body changing though, for the worse. For the past couple of weeks, I have had so much saliva....that I told my husband he could turn me upside down and water the lawn with me. My saliva has recently started burning, or maybe it is the saliva and the side of my tongue where my two biggest and worst 3 sided fillings are touching it. I have several teeth with amalgam that are starting to chip apart. I am sure my saliva is FULL of mercury, so do you think I should have him test that, if he will? I am working on this application for Jigsaw, in hopes that they will get this poison out of my mouth, and they would like a dentist and/or doctor recommendation for removal. As much as I don't want to be toxic, I need this test to come out conclusive that I have unacceptable mercury levels in my system. It will help with my credibility with my friends and family that don't believe it, as well as help me get the assistance I need to get them out of my mouth. To tell you the truth, it will also calm my own fears that I am going crazy. I just don't want to eat, drink or do anything else that could alter the results. If anyone knows, I would really appreciate it. Any encouraging words would really be appreciated too, as I am really scared to start this journey.

Hi there, I know how it feels to want and need a test to try and prove what is going on inside to others around you who are cynical. But I do not know how one can really test for mercury and get an accurate result. measuring mercury levels in testing is notoriously misleading. Mercury does not often show up on testing. It is bound up mostly and also can depend on whether a person is poisoned in such a way as for it to show show up or not. Usually most of us have simply got a storage of it that has built up, rather than a one off large exposure.

Also, some people can be very poisoned by mercury and yet show "low" levels of it in testing. This can mean either, A. they are genuinely low in mercury but can be reacting even to that small level of mercury, as some people are far less tolerant. B. It can mean the person is unable to excrete the mercury, so it does not show up and instead is retained, which is called retention toxicity. or C. they genuinely do not have mercury toxicity. But often, if they have all the hallmarks off it and it looks like a rose and smells like a rose, generally it is one! And often very low levels of mercury in a person showing obvious symptoms of mercury toxicity, is a very bad sign. They are retaining the mercury and not often releasing it.

A person who shows a very high level, could mean they've had a very recent large exposure, or they are very poisoned but may also have the ability to eliminate it more readily into the hair, urine etc. Or if they are healthy but have a high level, may mean they simply tolerate mercury much more than others, plus obviously able to eliminate it easily too.

So, results can mean many different things. The best thing to go by is your own symptoms and you can also get a hair analysis test to check for specific minerals that are most often deranged in mercury toxicity. THere are some hallmarks of mercury toxicity that can be often read by the mineral levels in hair. Most doctors miss this entirely and instead look for the level of mercury, see a low to very low level and immediatley say "you are not poisoned". They cannot see that it could be bound up too much, that maybe you are not eliminating it enough, or that you are simply poisoned by even a very low level.

But you could still go through with this testing regardless, it may well show a level of mercury and I hope it does so those around you will begin believing. But I wouldn't bet on it, or get your hopes up there. If it does not show up, does not mean you do not have mercury poisoning.

It sounds like you do with what symptoms you are getting, even orally.

So regardless of what people think, at least believe in yourself and begin to get help for this. It is actually quite common and often people do not even realise they are being poisoned until slowly but surely they notice deteriorations, but because it is invisible, insidious and silent, they do not attribute it to the amalgams and wonder why they can't really get enough results by trying other healing methods.

A good website to check out that can help with testing and help you find out if mercury may well be at work, is this website - [url=http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation/] If you can read the links and files section on that forum and get yourself familiar with them, it might give you some valuable information, including on how to get some tests done for mercury poisoning.

If you do decide to get amalgams out, please do not rush out and do it without first finding a reputable biologic dentist who knows what he's/she's doing, and will give you all the protection needed through the removal process, as during it, you will be exposed to a great deal of mercury vapor released. Also, make sure you do get biocompatible dental materials put in your teeth. There are many out there, so it's wise to also get testing done to find out which ones you are most suitable with (serum testing might be one option).
but in the meantime? The best thing you can do for yourself to attempt to help your body cope with the toxicity, prepare it for removal (if you decide to do that), is to get yourself on a strict candida diet. This is to reduce toxins and yeast inside your body, which will no doubt be above normal and adding to your burden.

This means to cut out all sugar, yeast, gluten grains (wheat, barley, oats, rye etc), plus possibly cutting out fruit and milk also (natural sugars) and potatoes (starch). The diet recommended is to eat things like meats, eggs, vegetables, acidophilus yoghurt (plain), raw nuts (brazil and almonds) etc. And to include healthy fats like butter, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil etc. These things can actually help your body not only reduce toxins and yeast, but also to help it heal at teh sametime. Might even encourage some mercury removal in the process. You may not wish to do this, but it can be essential in some who are very ill and need desperately to reduce candida (which is often present at high levels in someone ill or toxic). You can get symptoms from candida that are very similar to mercury and both at once is devastating. Candida also makes mercury even more toxic, plus overloads the gut and liver, which are needed for elimination. So you can build up toxins and not release them. Dangerous place to be in.

Plus a good idea is to include a good supplemetn programme of basic vitamins/antioxidants to help counteract the stress and damage of the toxicity. Vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium (preferably in the form of seleniomethionine and a good dose is about 100 mcg), zinc, magnesium, B complex and if you can, a good quality pure fish oil.

but anyway, sorry for the long post, just trying to cover as much as I can and these are just suggestions that might help you.

People on here are very kind and supportive, you will be able to ask anything, anytime. I have found it a Godsend!

take care

Bex.

Thank you for the wealth of information, Bex!!! I was really wondering about the candida diet, and what people actually eat. I am glad you listed things that can be eaten, because I was beginning to wonder if you could eat anything.

I know that just because mercury doesn't show up in a test, doesn't mean you don't have it. I do know I have it, no matter what they say. If a test shows it, it will be all the better, though. I have just felt myself getting more "acidy" and "toxic" lately, and I have a feeling that it is getting bad enough it will show up. Well, I can hope, anyway.

You just got better advice than any MD could give you, and it was totally free and given from a wealth of experience. I agree wholeheartedly with Bex and if you want some recipes I can send you lots or you can find a whole bunch at wholeapproach.com....they have all the food lists too.

A good ND or MD/ND with experience in chelation would be a great asset and a good mercury free dentist that would work together with your dr would be even better. My friend went to an integrated health clinic in MD and got wonderful care...and I have just recently found an integrated health clinic in Canada which I am hoping will help me too, just as soon as I save up another few thousand $$$$!!!

Best luck and feel better soon,
Sandi

Well, to go ahead and update on this post, my Dr looked at me like I was NUTS! He and the nurse asked me what made me "think" I had mercury poisoning, at which point I told him all my symptoms. He told me it sounded like my thyroid. They took 4 vials of blood from me, and ran all kinds of tests on them. He said he wanted to check me for all of the "obvious" things, before he gets into more "rare" things like mercury poisoning. Whatever. My Dr's office is 50 miles away from me, and he expects me to screw around driving all that way, and having to find a sitter for my kids, so he can test me for a bunch of crap that I don't have? Why are all Dr.'s in denial? Anyway, they called me 2 days later with the test results, and it's negative on the thyroid, everything looks good, and the triglycerides are a little elevated (I just read that can be a symptom of mercury toxicity). He checked my blood sugar, which was 98, but he told me that was only one reading, so I KNOW he wants to do a glucose test on me, and I really don't want to go through ANOTHER one of those things again. I am tired of them. I had to take them when I was pregnant, because supposedly I had gestational diabetes. The last one that I had (since the pregnancy), came out great, but you know these doctors, they get something set in their mind...

On a brighter note, I found a very reputable dentist that follows the protocol for amalgam removal, unfortunately he is 85 miles away from me, but he is the closest one. My car is in bad shape, but I will risk the drive to get well. I need to have a consultation with him, as I am getting worse every day. I just wrote him a long e-mail, and hopefully I will get a response in the next day or two. He also gives recommendations of Dr's that you can see, so maybe he could recommend one for me. All I know is that I can't wait until they write me back, and let me know what my options are. I am scared to death, and also very excited at the thought of getting this mess in my mouth fixed.
I am getting worse, because not only is my mouth still burning like fire (it's been how many weeks?), now my top lip is getting the "pins and needles" feeling, or off and on numb feeling. My hands, feet and face have been getting really cold, and I now feel like the blood running through my veins has ICE in it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> It is a scary feeling, considering that I am usually hot most of the time. My tongue even feels cold in my mouth, and that scares me also. When I get anxious or nervous, I still get really overheated. I did it again today, when I had to hurry and get all of us ready to go somewhere. I have a panic attack and I sweat profusely, that is nothing new, but the cold thing is new, and scary.
I don't know if I should even waste my time going back to the family Dr., as he doesn't believe me, and I don't think he can help me at all. I think I should just concentrate on the dentist.

Hi, this is the typical cr*p most go through with doctors. They are in denial about the extensive suffering mercury is causing among MANY. Unfortunately most do not know they have it, and remain suffering without reason and no conclusive test results.

To my mind, mercury is a very common problem, but many people handle it and don't know they are poisoned, just suffer some symptoms ongoing, but can get on with life. others more sensitive or intolerant of mercury get the full blown toxicity.

I would hope this dentist might do some work on you WHILE you see him. Surely you can do preliminary enquiries with him over email and let him know that it's a long trip and tell him about your car and see if you can get as much corresponding done via email as you can before you see him in person and whether he can do work on you on the first appointment.

Just a thought.

As for anything else? I can only make suggestions that the doctor is obviously not very aware of mercury toxicity and he may be a waste of your time. If I were you? i would concentrate souly on your diet, taking supplements like antioxidants, healthy fats and proteins, and get on with the removal of mercury and make sure the replacement material you get is suitable for you biocompatibility wise (you can have a serum test from clifford labs in USA). They will test your blood serum with just about every known dental materials and send you back the thick book list which will show you which ones are suitable or unsuitable. That is one avenue to try for testing.

And you can treat yourself from home with the mercury toxicity. Many are. The best book I know of for this, is "Amalgam Illness, Diagnosis and Treatment" by Andrew Hall Cutler. It is probably the safest protocol I know of to remove mercury. Here is a link with his details and credentials - http://www.noamalgam.com/vita.html you can also email him too if needs be.
His book is available online. Here is a link to check it out also.
http://www.noamalgam.com/ You'll get the gist of details of the book on here, also where to order it too if you are interested.

Hope that's of some help if you want to give any of that a go. However, bear in mind that the diet is essential and many mercury toxic people make the tragic mistake of not addressing diet seriously enough and can suffer some symptoms needlessly. if you're not already, I would seriously look at your diet and here is another VERY good link on candida (one of the terrible curses in health and most of us have this and don't know it. It can cause illness all on it's own that can imitate a lot of hte mercury symptoms and it makes mercury more toxic, plus combines with the toxicity of mercury and causes terrible misery) The lady on the website I recommend is called "Bee" and she actually goes so far as to claim her diet alone, plus the recommended fats, proteins etc can actually chelate out mercury and other toxins. Not sure if I'd go THAT far, but I think she has a point (to a point). Here is a link to her candida website showing the vital foods to consume to help you, and the ones to absolutely AVOID. Here is the link -
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/candidasupport/

Sorry if all this is a bit overwhelming, but just wanted to try and list everything I could that I think might be of value to you, before, during and after amalgam removal (aside from the serious chelation which should be done after the amalgams are gone for obvious reasons).

Best wishes and hope some of this might be of help if you decide you want to try any of this.

Bee Wilder of the candidasupport group makes liberal use of candida myths, which leaves the reader the task of separating the junk from the genuine help.

A more scientific group, candidiasis, uses as CORE THERAPY, a few of the things Bee frowns on -- inulin, undenatured whey and selenium -- and this has turned peoples' health around in just two months after a year of no success following Bee's advice.

Nonetheless neither criticisms nor the supplements are allowed discussion on candidasupport, and if a member even posts the link to candidiasis they are banned.

So, here's the link to candidasis group:

HI bonnie, thanks for posting the other candida link. I now belong to both groups. I believe Bee has the diet down well, but it's a pity she frowns on the other things that seem to be helping people further!

however, some like me, cannot really afford to pay out much for supplements, so don't have a lot of choice, other than concentrating on the diet side of things, but I feel it's wise to join both groups regardless.

Cheers
