Hi there, I know how it feels to want and need a test to try and prove what is going on inside to others around you who are cynical. But I do not know how one can really test for mercury and get an accurate result. measuring mercury levels in testing is notoriously misleading. Mercury does not often show up on testing. It is bound up mostly and also can depend on whether a person is poisoned in such a way as for it to show show up or not. Usually most of us have simply got a storage of it that has built up, rather than a one off large exposure.
Also, some people can be very poisoned by mercury and yet show "low" levels of it in testing. This can mean either, A. they are genuinely low in mercury but can be reacting even to that small level of mercury, as some people are far less tolerant. B. It can mean the person is unable to excrete the mercury, so it does not show up and instead is retained, which is called retention toxicity. or C. they genuinely do not have mercury toxicity. But often, if they have all the hallmarks off it and it looks like a rose and smells like a rose, generally it is one! And often very low levels of mercury in a person showing obvious symptoms of mercury toxicity, is a very bad sign. They are retaining the mercury and not often releasing it.
A person who shows a very high level, could mean they've had a very recent large exposure, or they are very poisoned but may also have the ability to eliminate it more readily into the hair, urine etc. Or if they are healthy but have a high level, may mean they simply tolerate mercury much more than others, plus obviously able to eliminate it easily too.
So, results can mean many different things. The best thing to go by is your own symptoms and you can also get a hair analysis test to check for specific minerals that are most often deranged in mercury toxicity. THere are some hallmarks of mercury toxicity that can be often read by the mineral levels in hair. Most doctors miss this entirely and instead look for the level of mercury, see a low to very low level and immediatley say "you are not poisoned". They cannot see that it could be bound up too much, that maybe you are not eliminating it enough, or that you are simply poisoned by even a very low level.
But you could still go through with this testing regardless, it may well show a level of mercury and I hope it does so those around you will begin believing. But I wouldn't bet on it, or get your hopes up there. If it does not show up, does not mean you do not have mercury poisoning.
It sounds like you do with what symptoms you are getting, even orally.
So regardless of what people think, at least believe in yourself and begin to get help for this. It is actually quite common and often people do not even realise they are being poisoned until slowly but surely they notice deteriorations, but because it is invisible, insidious and silent, they do not attribute it to the amalgams and wonder why they can't really get enough results by trying other healing methods.
A good website to check out that can help with testing and help you find out if mercury may well be at work, is this website - [url=http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation/] If you can read the links and files section on that forum and get yourself familiar with them, it might give you some valuable information, including on how to get some tests done for mercury poisoning.
If you do decide to get amalgams out, please do not rush out and do it without first finding a reputable biologic dentist who knows what he's/she's doing, and will give you all the protection needed through the removal process, as during it, you will be exposed to a great deal of mercury vapor released. Also, make sure you do get biocompatible dental materials put in your teeth. There are many out there, so it's wise to also get testing done to find out which ones you are most suitable with (serum testing might be one option). but in the meantime? The best thing you can do for yourself to attempt to help your body cope with the toxicity, prepare it for removal (if you decide to do that), is to get yourself on a strict candida diet. This is to reduce toxins and yeast inside your body, which will no doubt be above normal and adding to your burden.
This means to cut out all sugar, yeast, gluten grains (wheat, barley, oats, rye etc), plus possibly cutting out fruit and milk also (natural sugars) and potatoes (starch). The diet recommended is to eat things like meats, eggs, vegetables, acidophilus yoghurt (plain), raw nuts (brazil and almonds) etc. And to include healthy fats like butter, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil etc. These things can actually help your body not only reduce toxins and yeast, but also to help it heal at teh sametime. Might even encourage some mercury removal in the process. You may not wish to do this, but it can be essential in some who are very ill and need desperately to reduce candida (which is often present at high levels in someone ill or toxic). You can get symptoms from candida that are very similar to mercury and both at once is devastating. Candida also makes mercury even more toxic, plus overloads the gut and liver, which are needed for elimination. So you can build up toxins and not release them. Dangerous place to be in.
Plus a good idea is to include a good supplemetn programme of basic vitamins/antioxidants to help counteract the stress and damage of the toxicity. Vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium (preferably in the form of seleniomethionine and a good dose is about 100 mcg), zinc, magnesium, B complex and if you can, a good quality pure fish oil.
but anyway, sorry for the long post, just trying to cover as much as I can and these are just suggestions that might help you.
People on here are very kind and supportive, you will be able to ask anything, anytime. I have found it a Godsend!
take care
Bex.
