The Breakespeare hospital have been treating adults and children/babies for over twenty years. They describe the mental symptoms, such as autism. They offer chelation with EDTA,DMSA or DMPS they monitor your progress throughout but there is no mention of ALA being needed. This is something I will ring them about. I know the de-tox Clare is using from the same dentist I used is a supposedly cure all as far as I'm aware. I suppose what I'm trying to say is I don't know about others, but I still feel like I'm being bombarded with different opinions. Does anyone feel the same?

Yes, I got very very confused and upset as well! My health got worse because I started worrying that I was doing the wrong thing all the time! I've realised now that it is really important to believe you are getting better then when you have made a decision on treatment stick with it and see how you go. If you keep changing your mind you will never get anywhere. Ask for testimonials from the hospital. If it worked for others it could just work for you. There are lots of different protocols out there and they probably all work for different people. Be positive! I tried out a few doctors until I found one that I trusted and believed she had my interests at heart. Now I trust her and am letting her do her job. If I read or hear something anti what I'm doing that truly sounds valid I check it with her (she is always interested and reads whatever I give her) but at the end of the day we make an informed decision together and carry on. I think it is important to find someone you trust to help. When you are told that something you are doing is wrong, ask the person telling you whether they have recovered yet!

ALA is a strong antioxidant (which is important when mercury toxic), crosses the blood-brain barrier, and mobilizes mercury. There has, however, been a study that suggests that ALA is not as effective at chelating mercury as DMPS or DMSA. The study also suggests that ALA mobilizes mercury in the brain (I've only seen parts of the study so far). As I see it, anything that detoxes mercury has to mobilize mercury and if you're going to detox the brain, you've got to use a supplement that crosses the bb barrier. Nevertheless, I believe this study has deterred many in the medical community from considering ALA. I think this is the reason you don't hear about it as much as DMPS or DMSA. Here is information in case anyone is interested: Alpha-Lipoic Acid
