Hi Tracy, some people have to start as low as 6 mg of DMSA, maybe up to 12.5 mg. 20 mg is obviously far too much for you at this point. You might find 6 mg is ok. It's worth a try.

I have tried chlorella which made me ill, heavy metal detox which has ALA and cilantro in it, it gave me bad side effects, the only thing that was okay with me was DMSA in small 6mg doses which im doing now. When i get used to it i might higher up the doses.

I also started at 6mg DMSA and still felt lousy at the end of 3 days. I have done one round of 8mg and while I didn't have the fluey feelings after I was incredibly irritable - surprised even myself, never mind the kids. I am going very slow on this - maybe one round a month - as there is so much going on in my body at the moment - thyroid, adrenals, candida and mercury detoxing. I have to say that I have been REALLY strict on the diet in the last week - absolutely NO sugar in any form at all (I always snuck a piece of dark chocolate every morning!) , no grains, no gluten, etc etc and have upped my probiotic intake. I have been feeling significantly better with this, and sleeping better too.

Dmsa made me pretty sick as well! I reduced the dose too but I also think that the first is the worse. We were told the 3rd and fourth cycles were the worst but for me it was the first and second. My dr had that confirmed by a couple of other practicioners as well.

I have a very high burden of mercury and have used 100 mg of DMSA every 3 days with no problem....BUT I still follow a candida diet very closely and make sure my body is as yeast free as possible before I take the DMSA. If I get constipated or unwell, I stop and resume again when everything starts working efficiently.
I know I have said this before but just doing a good diet and keeping the bowels moving regularly will help the body chelate all the extracellular metals. Then when that is all gone, you can start a formal chelation of a deeper nature. BUT the key is to follow a clean diet and keep the channels of elimination free of yeast and working efficiently.
I know sometimes it is difficult to stick to the diet if friends and family are not supportive, but you have to make it clear to them, that is what you have to do to get well.
Best luck Tracy and feel better soon.
Sandi xoxo

I started with whey protein. Then I moved on to Heavy Metal Detox, but after a while I had bad headaches from it, so I put it aside for now. Currently I am on Cutler’s protocol. I started with 25mg of DMSA and did 3 rounds of 3 days on and off. The only side effects I experienced were nausea, and a headache, which were mild and went away pretty fast. On the fourth round I added 12.5 of ALA. The fifth round was the same. On the sixth I increased the dose of DMSA to 50mg and ALA to 25mg. I now that I am rushing things as I was not supposed to increase the doses that fast and especially increasing both of them simultaneously. I have felt fine on the rounds, but have not observed much improvements in my symptoms of depression, anxiety, and fatigue. Along with the chelators I take these as supplements on and off: -Vitamin C (4 grams) -Vitamin E (400 – 800 IU) -Coenzyme Q10 (75 mg) -Carotenoid Blend -Milk thistle extract (750 mg, 560 mg of silymarin) -Flax seed oil (15 grams) -Borage oil (1 gram) -Inositol (1 gram) -L-Lysine (2 grams) -L-Glutamine (1000mg) -Arginine (3 -6 grams) -Magnesium (800 mg) -Chromium GTF (1000 mcg) -Chromium Picolinate -L-Carnitine (1.5 gm) or Acetyl-L-carnitine (1 – 2 grams) -B-Complex vitamins (100mg) -Zinc (50-100 mg) -Molybdenum (500 -1000mcg) -DMAE (100 mg) -Gotu Kola (790 mg) -Gaba Plus (200 mg) -Beta Blocker -5 HTP Power (35 – 105 mg) -Olive Leaf Extract (420 – 840 mg) -Algin (2000 – 8000mg) -Adrenal Support supplement -Thyroid Support supplement
Most of these supplement I got from Nature’s Sunshine. I know this list looks big, but to top it off, some of the supplements have additional herbs or vitamins in them so the amount of total supplements is beyond me. I am surprised that for how much I take, little or no improvements are observed. The only time I feel better is when I randomly take Algin or take it after chelation rounds. Beta Blocker works to in high anxiety producing situations. Sandi has mentioned that one must clear the digestion and adrenals first. I am thinking about doing that, because there has to be something that neutralized the effect from the supplements. I am already on a Candida diet. However, I bought some raw milk and raw honey today to aid with my flu. Sometimes, I eat fruit like apples, coconuts, bananas, pineapples, and mangos. Also I drink fruit juice on and off. So I might have to eliminate all sugar, including milk, honey, and fruit.

Hi Alex, you are doing so much to try and help yourself, you must feel totally disheartened. Have you considered stopping everything and going on the strict candida diet for a while?
Because a lot of things are not absorbed when the yeast is still getting enough natural sugars to survive. You "may" find that if/when you totally eradicate fruit, fruit juice, milk, potatoes etc, and include the healthy fats and proteins, like eggs, meats, butter, organic coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and even some fat on meat and vegetables etc, things could improve.
The chelation, plus the bits of natural sugar here and there, maybe allowing the yeast to flare and cause you to not notice the improvements from chelating as such. this is quite normal.
You may find once you stop all of this, have a longer break and employ the stricter diet with the fats and proteins, something may become more evident.
Keep us posted.

Alex, I highly recommend this candida website - http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/candidasupport/ It is probably the best out there. On this website, it will tell you about every aspect of this diet and other areas of health. The lady on there claims this diet alone with her recommended fats and proteins are enough to chelate mercury. Not sure whether I agree completely about that, but it does seem people are experiencing some interesting results. Anyway, it's there if you feel like checking it out and joining. The links and files section on that site are well worth viewing. even if you don't post any messages on the forum, the info is invaluable. Regards Bex.

Thank you for your advice Bex. I will get on the strict Candida diet. But then once I start chelating again, can I start where I left off, namely 50mg of DMSA and 25mg of ALA? How long does it take to get rid of the Candida? Will Olive Leaf Extract speed up the process?

lol. Yeah I mean you can chelate, but maybe you should give it a break for a while and see what this diet alone does first, that way you'll get a better idea of whether it's "truly" helping you and also, the chelation might hinder the progress a little.
Though we know chelation is really necessary, it's hard if you are overburdened with yeast, I cannot even chelate at all. I'm a mess. All that from antibitoics a while back. I'm sure olive leaf extract will be fine if you want to take it. The ones recommended on her website, are things like garlic, and/or oregano oil. But I warn you about garlic supplementation, it has caused some HORRIFIC effects in me, like moving mercury into brain and nervous system. Done this in others also. I've never really come right from it, so you "might" wanna give that one a miss But, it seems ok eaten as food, or cooked in food. supplements of garlic, for some reason whether it's the potency, or the form of it, it can do things I can't even describe.
By the way, on the candida forum? my name on there is fats_malone2002
Hopefull you'll find that group helpful. I seriously don't think much helps unless you got the yeast more under control. Diet is the cornerstone, the rest is secondary from what I hear. the moderator is called "bee". She is nice, very knowledgeable and helpful, but it's easy to put a "bee in her bonnet". I have p*ssed her off a few times on there. She's great until you decide to question or challenge her over things she doesn't want to be challneged about then she can get uppety. I refer to her as Queen Bee, (she doesn't know this of course). But aside from that? She's a real trooper. She'll help you out big time with this.

lol, I know, I couldn't help but think of her as that. You will find her group invaluable, believe me. She has so much information on the files and links section, that it's incredible and it makes a lot of sense.

My ND gave me 100 mg of DMSA to take every third day, and no minerals or vitamin B12 or sulphur compounds on those days....seems to work fine for me. It is slow but a steady process and doesn't remove too much at once. And I take minerals on the off days so I don't get mineral depleted.
And lots of vitamin C to keep the bms moving well....at least 2-3000 mg per day.

I have chelated my son for roughly 2 1/2 years. We first started with DMSA, but he was just so toxic and wasn't nutritionally sound and within 2 rounds had broken an elbow and a toe (I think it was just pulling out too much without him being balanced enough). We then went to a chelation clinic and did saunas as well as EDTA IV chelation for 4 weeks and he was better - well enough to come back home, but wasn't toxic free. We then did bio-tuning along with metal-free, then chlorella and now Natural cellular defense. The bio-tuning has been incredible. We live in California so we were able to do custom CDs, but if you don't live in the San Diego area, you can pick up a generic CD - takes a bit longer, but also works. ( www.drjeffreythompson.com). My MD does muscle testing and that's how we determine where to go with the chelators. His mercury - after 2 years is gone, but now we're pulling out the remaining aluminum and arsenic. We still use a home sauna as well. Best of luck to you, Debbie
