Hi, something odd has happened to me. I don't know if anybody knows what this is, but early this afternoon I noticed something wrong with my vision.

I went to the bathroom and I was unable to see part of my eye and face in the mirror. I can still see, but the right side of my vision is halfway blocked off, as though the perepheral vision has gone on my right side.

My left eye seems ok, but the right is not. I am actually freaking out because I don't know what is causing htis.

Bex,

I'm sorry - that sounds scary for you! I don't know what to tell you, other than to try going to the doctor about it. Do you have an alternative practitioner...even a regular doctor might be preferable if you're scared about this. In the meantime, maybe do some internet research to see if you can find out any info on it.

Last weekend, I had bright white flashes across my vision, and then black blobs floating across and it really freaked me out. I know the black things can be normal, but I've never had the bright flashes before. My mom gets them all the time though.

I hope you find some info soon and can get this figured out. Keep us posted.

Hi there, thanks for your post. Yeah, I have a doctor, who is borderlining USELESS. Any serious symptoms I get are flicked to one side by her because I gather she probably considers me a "neurotic" (considering my long term odd symptoms with mercury etc). So when I have something that might be outside of the mercury, I'm not taken seriously.

So yes, if this continues I will have to locate another doctor to get tested I guess. I am totally freaked out by this. It feels like something behind my eyes more than surface as though pressure or something.

Alot of problems have occured since a flu virus I got recently which is the worst I've had in my life. I had continual coughing that caused me to lurch forwards and created a lot of pressure on my heart, this went on night after night and I was often awake till morning. I went on antibiotics for htis, which has created other issues, and I really wonder if it's all been too much of a strain.

I don't know, perhaps I am panicking over nothing and it's simply a "temporarily glitch". I hope so.

I'll keep you posted.

As I am sure you all know, in trad. chinese medicine, the eyes reflect what is going on in the liver. I would hazard a guess that if you are having strange things going on with your vision, there is some kind of action happening in your liver.

Some years ago, I got carried away eating an entire can of coconut "milk" with the fat in it. That is LOTS of solid, saturated fat. Several hours later, I could barely see; everything looked crooked and distorted. It went away the next day, if I recall correctly.

It is a fact that the liver/gallbladder system can't handle sudden, large quantities of fat.

Hi carla, thanks, I sure hope so. Yesterday, I ate lamb chops with the fat on them fried in butter (which I always do), I had eggs, vegetables and my yoghurt, raw nuts etc and I do fine on this, but I also ate not long after that, fish and chips, which is all deep fried and I hate chicken, hot dog, then I ate chips with white bread and butter....I wonder if I went for overkill...

Hi Bex, how are you now, i would suggest going to see an optician to rule anything serious out, i have to have eye tests each year because i have had trouble with my eyes.
I had blurred, dim vision, distorted vision, dry, tired eyes, pain behind eyes and visual snow, which seems to come back now and then.
Since removal my eyes have got a lot better but i still get them checked as eyes are important.
I had an eye scan last year and i am due for another one, its best to have them yearly so they can compare the scans.

Hi DAwn I know there are things I should do. I have reached such a low point now, that I have actually become almost bed or seat ridden. I hardly move. I just don't know what has occured. I was bad enough, but the antibiotics appear to have done something terrible to me. I can't quite figure out how, but i've had symptoms very bad since and the eye thing is something totally bizzare. I can feel it's still ther eto a point, but not sure if it's eye related, or something internal that is affecting how I am seeing things around me.

I knwo you're right, I should get tested. BUt in some ways I am just wanting to give up and sleep. I hope I can improve a bit soon in a way so i can get more off my rear end and do more for myself.

I have been in the worst state i've known. And then today, my 5 year old nephew told me that I smelt, so yeah, it's been one of those times recently

But definitely, I am monitoring things and if this eye problem continues, I will have to have some tests done. Even blood pressure etc too, because i know that my cat had very high blood pressure and went blind from it (not that I will, but obvoiusly there can be a relation between the eyes and other things too).

Hi Bex. How is your eye now? I think you should see your doctor about it, and he/she can do a test or send you to an optician, but sounds like something that needs to be seen to.

Hi, thanks so much for all your concerns.

Ok, well at the moment, my eyes seem to be "ok", I'm not noticing anything as bad as such, but I'm not holding my breath because my symptoms can come back as quick as me thinking they've gone, so I just hope and pray that it'll be ok.

Well, Bex, that was one helluva meal. Maybe your vision problem was a one-shot thing or maybe not. But I'd take the advice of others here to go see an optometrist. I'd cut back on the fat, too. How about tryng one of the many herbal/neutriceutical eye formulas available in the health food shops. They apparently are quite good.

Hi Carla, thanks for your advice. I have been on the candida forum, because I thought it was the fat I was eating (recommended on that forum). The lady told me it's happened to her as well and that it's part of cleansing at times you can detox through the eyes.

however, I'm not stupid enough to rely on someone's word in that area, but right now things are alright, so I'll see how I go and if it goes funny again, then yeah I'll have to go and seek advice.

The diet recommendations from the candida forum have actually been the only thing that has kept me remotely sane, so it must be doing something. The fats are veryhealing, I was just concerned I was overdoing it, but I don't know if itw as related to that because I've never had it before and only got it after this recent flu virus I had and the antibiotics, both of which have devastated me. So it may be from the strain of all that.

It's not a matter of Any Old Kind of Fat is good. I think that it is an issue of the quality. You need essential fats. Mixing some of the beneficial ones with lots of the so-so or dangerous ones - what would be the point? You are overloading your poor liver.

Seems like in all things, we humans lurch from one extreme to the other. For a while, a high-carb, low-fat diet was recommended by the various dietary authorities. Some people benefited from this kind of regimen because they had consumed large quantities of fat, esp. bad fats, for so long.

But then they overdid the high-carb, low-fat thing and began to suffer all sorts of deficiencies.

So then the Traditional Diet gurus (Weston Price Gang, etc.) come along and say, hey, fat is good for you!

Well, yes it is. The right kind and the right amounts.

I hope that the pendulum will cease its demented swinging, and will soon settle in the center.

Hi Carla, I never said any old fat is good, far from it. Just the good general ones like butter, olive oils, coconut oils, etc, that people used to once consume and do fine on many many years ago.

I do agree with you, I've said the same thing myself about this. I said that they've gone from one extreme of now admitting the no fat, low fat diets are bad, to now saying "eat fat" literally till it comes out your ears.

I do not adhere to the recommendations of all the fat eating on the candida diet. I do eat the fats they recommend, but only as normal. Cooking in, or adding to vegetables, nothing more but because of these recent problems, I thought maybe I had been overdoing it in the cooking or something. If I was doing it according to what was recommended, i'd be having it by the spoonful, but I refuse to do it, it's not even natural and common sense would tell anybody it's over the top (just as I never adhered to the low fat no fat diet when it was in full vogue, I just used basic common sense that it wasn't normal).

The moments when I go overboard are when I consume anything and everything when I have my times of eating pizzas, mc donalds etc. But I do not do this all the time, just occassionally which I think is pretty normal to go overboard on occassion. I get back on track, as it's not worth feeling worse from it.

Otherwise, I eat very normally like anybody else, but i make sure I avoid sugar, gluten etc, which do have bad effects on me and make no sense at all to continue eating them.

Thanks for clarifying and you obviously have a well-balanced approach to food. What are you doing for EFA's though, esp. DHA & EPA? Those are the EFA's in sardines, etc., I believe. People who don't want to consume fish take it in a vegan pill form (I know that's not you, but I am just pointing it out for others here).

How is the goofy eye? Sure hope the problem has gone away.

Bex, did you take probiotics after having been on the antibiotics? If not, you will have a hard time getting replenished with your good bacteria and will feel bad for some time.

HI Clara, yeah I think I do take a pretty even approach to eating. (except for my bouts where I go stupid), but I can't be too average about it, I have to be very strict with a candida diet or I get into a lot of problems, so in that area, no my diet isn't completely like everybody else's, but I guess it's healthy.

I can't eat fish because of the mercury problem and it seems even the so-called safe fish tends to set symptoms off, but I take a fish oil capsule (Nordic Naturals one), which seems to be going ok. I'd prefer personally to eat fish as it seems much more natural than to swallow capsules of oil, but not sure whether to risk it or not. I'm in New Zealand and we are supposed to have pretty low mercury fish, but sadly they have not escaped contamination either. And even if I did eat the safer fish, which would be fine for most people, my sensivity to mercury itself is ridiculous, extreme and small amounts can set of big symptoms.

so yeah I stick to the capsules (for now anyway). And they apparently have the DHA/EPA .

yeah it seems the goofy eye thing has gone away lol. Thanks for asking. Hope it never comes back. Sometimes things aren't related to vision but distort it, like something in the head instead, so it could have been anything unrelated to my actual eyes.

Hi Missy, no I never did take any probiotics after my antibiotics. I probably should have. I can still do that though, but they are pretty costly and I'm trying to pay off my credit card which has a lot of supplement bills on there already, so I thought i'll try and hold out until I can afford it (unless I miraculously get better).

In the meantime, I'm sticking to the diet and taking acidophilus yoghurt (though I don't think it's nearly as effective as probiotics in supplement form). I cannot do any mercury chelation now because of this, that's how bad it's gotten. Not sure why, but gather chelation is somehow setting things off much worse, whether it's yeast, or my immune system can't cope, or whether the toxic movement from metals is just making things too much worse right now. I don't know.

I hope to be able to get back on track. But yeah I think my body will take a LONG time to restore any of the good bacteria again if I don't use probiotics. And interestingly enough, I am having massive cravings now for junkfoods and bread etc, so it's obviously and definitely yeast related. Like it's screaming for me to consume the foods it enjoys (I enjoy it too ). But it's almost at an unhealthy level of craving, so this tells me I am going to have to battle this out.

It's sad that we have to spend so much on supplements to try and repair the damage done to us. I know what you are saying, I have spent so much in the last 6 years trying to discover what was wrong and now trying to heal. It really puts a financial strain on the family.

Maybe you can ask for some probiotics for a birthday or Christmas present-that's what I did when my husband said, "no more test" and I wanted to have the mercury test done.

I hope things get better for you soon.
