Personally, I don't think I would get a root canal. I would have it pulled, esp if it was a back tooth. I had two root canals, and with both of them the root split and I had to have the teeth extracted anyway. I went to an oral surgeon, thankfully, because the dentist I was going to at the time, had nerve damage in his arms (mercury?) and the oral surgeon must have been a good one because he left me with no cavitations. So, if you get it pulled, make sure you get a reputable guy (gal), perhaps recommended by a holistic dentist - or get it pulled by a holistic dentist who knows how. And if it is a front tooth? I don't know the options there. Anyone else? Oh, and by the way, the holistic dentist I go to does not do root canals because of the health concerns.

My dentist generally recommends against root canals.

I am just in the process of getting all my root canalled teeth pulled, they are a constant source of infection...and then you have a dead tooth that gets weak and then needs a crown...a wonderful guarantee for future work for the dentist.
Get it pulled and don't look back, I wish I had known what I know now...
Best luck and take good care, Sandi

Thanks for all of the advice. I will probably get the tooth pulled. That particular tooth turned out to be decayed and was causing pain in various teeth and through out my jaw. I had read that root canals can become a source of cronic infection on the WAPF website and thought i'd pose the question on your forum.

I got my first root canal and cavitation removed one month ago and you would not believe how much better I felt the very next day. But I don't think he got all the surrounding necrotic tissue out cause I developed an infection and had to get it redone last week...and that was no picnic, I tell you. But I am feeling fine now....better and better every day. 4 more root canalled teeth to do, but I am going to a different dentist who does conscious sedation...this was too much stress and I am not a baby. I also have to get four more out, that are cracked and crowned...so 8 in all, and then I am totally metal and cavitation free!!!! And then I can start some real chelation, although I am feeling so good, I don't know how much better I can get!!!
There is life after mercury!!!
