Hi, I think my adrenal glands took quite a bashing when I got my fillings removed. I was bothered with hypoglycemic attacks and also had trouble breathing for a month or two after I got my fillings out. This went away but it has now returned.
I have always been very easily tired/low energy etc, so I am guessing my adrenal function has never been up to par at least for the last few years, and then getting my fillings out made the adrenal situation ten times worse (I got my fillings out without any precautions).
I have been looking up various supplements/tonics etc for the adrenal glands and licorice supplements seem to be very recommended to get them functioning properly again. I am aware, ie. I have read that you shoudn't take it for longer than 6 to 8 weeks because apparently it can raise your blood pressure, but it does seem to help in the short term.
I know that my thyroid might need help too but I thought I'd start off with the adrenal situation first???!!!
I am interested in anyones thoughts on this or if anyone has tried this.
thanks lizbet <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

You can actually get licorice root in a form known as DGL (Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice). DGL is licorice root that has been stripped of glycyrrhizin, a substance that occurs naturally in the herb that can raise blood pressure and lower potassium levels in some individuals. Another idea is to try a supplement that contains not only licorice root, but also other nutrients that help support the adrenal glands. For example, Adrenal Support contains licorice root, along with several B-vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, potassium, zinc, bovine (from cows) adrenal tissue and protease enzymes (to help break down the adrenal tissue), and schizandra and borage oil (herbs that also promote adrenal health and function). This kind of formula helps target adrenal function from multiple directions, since you may not know whether your adrenal function is due to vitamin or mineral deficiency, stress, etc. Of course, since mercury interferes with so many aspects of the body, it would be a good idea to make sure you're also addressing mercury toxicity with things like extra vitamin C, vitamin E, algin, other antioxidants, etc. Hope this helps,
