I felt really cold the other day so I thought I would go for a tanning session....I thought it would help warm me up. Anyway the next day I felt horribly flu-ish. So I phoned and asked if they have mercury in their bulbs and voila, she called me right back and said yes they contain mercury and phosphorus, but she said not enough to harm you. Funny that is exactly what the dentist said about my mouth full of amalgams 2 years ago.

OMG, I can't believe it!!!!!! What is it with mercury? The most toxic metal known to man and what do they do? Put it in anything and everything they possibly can.
vaccines, teeth fillings, tanning bed bulbs, contact lens solution, tattoos, some hair dyes, some cosmetics, you name it. It's like 'hey, this is very very toxic, let's use it in anything we can"
Thanks for letting us know this, I certainly will never go to a tanning bed. You must be furious. Though it may not have been the mercury nt he bulbs that have caused you to feel fluey like this, it may be that the heat stimulated some of the toxins inside you a little, as I know that can happen to. It's not a bad thing if it is that, but how would one know??
But, I would never risk going to one regardless!

yeah no doubt they have it in them too!!! I think probably all the flashing lights on toys have it in them as well...and what about xmas ornaments...most of them are made in China and they are notorious for using mercury...in dishes, toys, shoes, anything with brightly colored dyes or paints.
I guess we can be too OCD but it is hard when we are already OCD from the stuff!!!! LOL!!!

A broken bulb has a decent amount of mercury. I doubt it leaks through the glass. HOWEVER. Maybe they have broken before in the location?????

They used to use a mercury switch in children's shoes to make them light up. I think in the 1994 or something, they stopped doing that and used something else, but not sure if they stopped it completely or not and do not know if all countries stopped it. I'm sure many of the shoes still have the mercury switch.
I know my neice and nephew had light-up shoes at one point and now I wonder...
IT's not just the effects it can have at the time, it's also the fact of what happens when the shoes wear out or need to be disgarded? It becomes toxic waste and how does one expose of it? This is what they're doing. Making mercury part of so many things and then causing further toxic emissions to the environmnet.
well yeah one could get paranoid about it (OCD) lol, very easily and hey you're right, it is a mercury symptom afterall

Yeah Jason, that is possible. What would happen if a bulb there broke and released the mercury and then combine that with the heat.
I remember reading about a man who used to play with liquid mercury, he'd watch it and play with it. I guess he had it in some container, or whether he touched or not I don't know. But he got away with it for a long time adn oneday a little of that mercury dropped and landed on a hot plate.
He died a week later form mercury poisoning, because of the vapor.
