I have noticed that many of the new members are having a lot of trouble post amalgam removal and alot of it could be diet related. The only way I knew that mercury was making me sick was because I had severe candida for 3 years and that lead me to the mercury/yeast connection.
I think that before starting any formal chelation, we should reduce the candida numbers, otherwise the chelated mercury will gravitate to the yeast spores and hide in there instead of being eliminated. Our bodies actually produce yeast to buffer us from the toxic effects of metals.
Yeast and sugar also turn the mercury into methylated mercury which is a hundred times more toxic than other forms of mercury.
I am in this position right now.... I was backsliding on my diet and have to get back at it more seriously before I start the DMSA again.
Wish me luck getting back on the diet wagon. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Hi Sandi, yeast definitely grows where metals are and absorbs them, but problem is, the yeast goes beyond that when the person's immunity is down, plus they are consuming sugars, yeasts, gluten grains and then it turns into an illness on it's own alongside the mercury toxicity.
I don't believe in antifungals (unless it's an acute candida issue), as I believe they destory large numbers and release more mercury. I think diet alone is the only real way to give the body a chance to keep yeast at more manageable levels.
Sometimes people have to go further than just eliminating sugar, yeast and gluten and need to eliminate fruit and milk due to natural sugars. It depends on how serious the infection is.
I wish you all the best on getting back on the diet wagon!! Good idea to do that because DMSA can encourage more yeast growth too, so your body will definitely need the help of the diet.
All the best.

Thanks Bex, I wasn't advocating the use of antifungals Bex, I totally agree...just following the diet can be enough to keep the yeast under control.

hi sandi, sorry I know you weren't advocating antifungals. You already know about the risks. I think I said it so that if someone else read it, they might realise that diet is the safer route to go if they want to reduce their own yeast levels.
I had a horrific experience with antifungals myself! And I have no doubts it was mercury poisoning, not simple yeast die off.

Yes Bex, I know now that it was the agressive use of antifungals that increased my mercury toxicity symptoms...if you do use antifungals you have to go really slow or else we can release more mercury than the body can eliminate at one time. I took antifungals to kill yeast for 2 years before I found out what the real problem was, and by that time I had suffered much more mercury exposure.

Yes, me too, big mistake! I was taking antifungals every 2 hrs, including grapefruit seed extract which also kills good bacteria. I wish i had known about mercury then. im sure i would be so much better now.
