That would be melatonin. This is a hormone normally produced by the pituitary gland, which is often poisoned in amalgam illness, and the reason why mercury toxic people don't sleep very well.

The sublingual variety works best (doesn't have to be absorbed by the intestinal tract) and can be bought over the internet. If you have adrenal problems be careful - it drives down cortisol, so you shouldn't take more than 0.5 - 1.5mg. It DOES help with sleeping.

Well that is good to know, I was using 3mg cause that is all the store had, I never knew it would affect cortisol levels...boy we sure have to be aware of what we put in our mouths.

Before I knew that mercury poisoning was causing my sleep problem, I visited several insomnia forums. I remember someone posting that their specialist from Johns Hopkins told her not to use melatonin as he was seeing several cases of pituitary tumors in those who have taken this supplement.

I considered taking this supplement until I read this.

Well, I know this is a no no, but I have about a half a glass of milk before I go to bed and I sleep much better. It is non-pasteurized goat's milk (actually, kefir) and I don't know if it is problematic in removing mercury as pasteurized cow's milk, but it sure helps with sleeping. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I've been fighting with insomnia problems on and off for years now. Valerian Root seems to be the best thing to help me. I've tried a cheap capsule form, which sometimes worked. I now have NOW brand liquid valerian root extract, and that really seems to help.

Take about 5 or 6 six deep breaths in thru the nose and slowly out thru the mouth, that always helps me fall back to sleep. And following the candida diet will help also....are you following a candida diet?

I've found that doing something relaxing before going to bed helps me prepare for sleep i.e. watching a good film or listening to music. Coming on the computer right before bed I find can make it harder for me to go to sleep.

I've also read that avoiding high protein foods before sleep can help you drift off as they stimulate the mind more than carbs in the long-term - protein being brain food. So, a bowl of cornflakes or something before bed might help you sleep better than something high protein like cheese or meat (for those who eat them).

I would avoid corn at all costs, corn is full of mold and feeds yeast and heavy metals love yeast...they hide out in the spores.

I will post an article about corn in the candida section if anyone is interested.

Yes, the deep breathing has helped me, too!! Remember when you take a breath to puff out your belly. There's something about completely filling the lungs that does the trick. Like Sandy said taking 5 or 6 deep breaths when your lying in bed helps tremendously. A lot of the time the last thing I remember before falling fast asleep is taking those breaths.
