Has anybody experienced changes in vision during a DMSA chelation cycle?

I'm doing my third cycle of 4 days/3 nights, and in each cycle by the third day my vision starts to get intermittently blurry. I've been taking an equal amount of time off between cycles.

I'm taking the basic anti-oxidants and fatty acid supplements that Cutler recommends plus plenty of magnesium and three liters of water per day. I follow the same supplement regime during the off cycle.

I get this too. This is my second round of DMSA. Blurry vision is normally something to do with the liver and blood sugar regulation, but I don't know more than that. Or is it just the mercury on the move? Anyone got any clues?

My guess would be that it's the mercury on the move, as mercury can cause blurred vision and vision changes that can come and go.

candida can also cause this and DMSA can feed candida, so it's possible it's a combination. Watch your diet and make sure you're not consuming sugar, yeast or gluten grains (wheat, rye, barley, oats etc). All those things can aggravate mercury poisoning and with the chelation at the sametime, would make it even worse.

Bex,

You mentoined that DMSA can feed the candida. I've also heard that chlorella can. Do you know why this is? Or if all chelating agents feed the candida? Or does it have to do with the theory of yeast binding with the mercury, so as the mercury dies, the candida is released more into our systems....?

I'm wondering because I have candida, I'm currently taking chlorella, and I will start on DMSA relatively soon.

I think it's something to do with the sulfur that can feed yeast, but also the movement of metals going through the system stimulating further yeast growth at the sametime. Because where there is mercury, yeast tend to thrive and sometime if a person does chelating/detoxing and doesn't do it safely, they can cause a llot of mercury to go into the gut and then this causes an acute yeast infection in the gut because of all the metal that has gone into it.

Yeah, yeast does absorb mercury and that's why it can be risky to use antifungals which can kill yeast too aggressively and then release more metal into the body.

The best initial thing to do is use strict diet to starve candida slowly out of the body and bring it down to healthier levels and then to use chelation safely and at low levels to lower the mercury, whilst sticking to the diet to avoid yeast overgrowth during chelation.

chlorella and candida? Could be the sulfur content that might aggravate or feed candida a little, or the fact that chlorella can redistribute mercury and move it anywhere.

Bex,

Thanks for the info. I've been doing a very strict candida diet for close to 3 years now (the Whole Approach diet, which is the most strict I've found). I have been eating too many gluten-free carbs lately though, and a little too much fruit (which I only recently added back into my diet after about 2 years without it....didn't seem healthy to not eat fruit for that long) -- I'm definitely feeling the effects of the carbs though, and need to tighten back up on things. I also drank alcohol a couple times this summer, also for the first time in 2.5 years, which is definitely not good for the candida. But after 2.5 - 3 years, you need a splurge every now and then to stay sane on such a diet, with such extreme health problems. But I'm cleaning things up again, which should help.
