Does anyone know if Nature's Sunshine Heavy Metal Detox work just as well as something like DMSA? I am nervous to take DMSA.

Also, what about NDF Detox drops, has anyone heard anything about those?

Well, it's very hard to predict how someone will react, so I don't think anybody, no matter how expert has the perfect solution.
I only know that it's very easy to move mercury around wildly into worse areas and mercury, when it's moved around like that, can then pass over the blood brain barrier on it's own very easily. It can't come back out though, because once it's in there, it stays there unless a person uses a product that can pass over the BBB and grab the mercury and bring it back out.
Problem is, those very things that can pass the BBB, can take more mercury INto the brain from grabbing mercury in the blood/tissues on the way to the brain.
So the theory is, to take a product that does not pass the blood brain barrier e.g DMPS (orally) or DMSA (though some argue it can pass over, it cannot to any clinical degree). So to use one of those products to clear the blood/tissues etc of mercury BEFORE adding anything else.
Again, even using those things, it can require using them in a way that will move mercury more safely, rahter than bounce it around the body wildly. So many follow a bio chemist's manner of using it, which is (e.g) DMSA taken at very low doses (starting as low as 12.5 mg or less), and taking it every 4 hours around the clock for about 3 days or more. Then taking a break for about the same amount of time you spent on the chelator.
Then repeating and so on for a few months.
this is proving the way to go for many, but I could never predict that it will help everyone, just as I could not predict that everybody is going to be harmed by other methods. Some do very well on other things, others get hurt.
NDF can work well on some, or harm others. HOw does one know? I don't have a clue.
If you wanted to ask my personal opinion? I would give DMSA a try first. And use it in TINY doses, like 6 mg every 4 hours for a few days and stop. That way, if you do not like what is happening? You can stop and becuase of the very low dose, you should not receive any long term problems. It's people who jump right on in and take something at full dose or even half the dose and then wind up injured and figure that it's the fault of the chelator, when it's the fault of the mercury and the weakened immune system and gut. As with anything, small doses is the only way to go, mercury is dangerous, not the chelator as such.
Though you can get a genuine allergic reaction the chelating drug, it's usually rare and easily reversed upon stopping the drug.

Hey there Nelli, I am currently using his product. Read my post. After some thought I am thinking about stopping it until clearing my body first of mercury. Like Bex mentioned that chelators that can cross B.B.B. on their way grab mercury from the body and brining it to the brain. HMD has ciliantro and ALA both of which can cross the B.B.B. Therefore, take HMD only after your body is pretty cleared of mercury and the two chelators won't grab much or any mercury on their way to the brain. You can do DMSA, but don't forget that others chelated fine without synthetic chelators. Russ for instance did it with chlorella and protein. Hope this helps. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Yes, as Alex said, I used chlorella and a protein supplement that contains cysteine (don't use soy based proteins) for initial detox, then moved on to other things once I was somewhat better. ALA is very good but clear the lower organs first and then use ALA later.

Here is a link to a place where you can order DMSA. If you click on this link http://www.vivagen.net/detoxprods.htm and then scroll down to where you will see DMSA (make sure you get the one that says 120 - 25 mg capsules). 25 mg is probably a good one to get, that way you can split the dose in half when you take it to get 12.5 mg, which is a very good starting dose.

Bex: I started my first series of DMSA Thursday through Sunday evening. I took 25mg and didn't notice any side affects. I have also been taking about 4500 mg chlorella per day, and of course, lots of Algin. (Along with 20 some other suppliments).

Hi Diana, that is GREAT. Keep it up. 25 mg is actually a very good stable dose. I can't use any dose right now because of a lot of mistakes made on me, but it's good to hear you can do this and I would not increase the dose at all, until you have done about 5 - 6 seperate rounds of the 4 hourly routines and made sure you're ok to go higher.
Some do ok and then the symptoms catch them on another round, so you can see why it's an unpredictable thing, but 25 mg is certainly better than using 50 mg.

Just thought I'd add this reminder...if you're going to be using Heavy Metal Detox, NDF, chlorella, cilantro, ALA, etc., I would definitely recommend taking plenty of Algin to help absorb the mercury that you are mobilizing with these chelators. Even though HMD has some Algin in it, I would always take extra. If for some reason you can't take Algin, you could try other natural fiber sources. Although other fibers don't have the same affinity for heavy metals that Algin does, at least they will help keep your bowels moving and may even provide some absorbing properties. Here'a a fiber mix you might want to try: Everybody's Fiber. It comes in a powder form that you can easily add to water or juice and it contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. This would be an ideal fiber source for vegetarians (no capsules!).
