I have been chelating for the past 2 weeks with the Heavy Metal Detox. This is my first chelation experience so I would like to share it. Late in the February of 2006, I underwent a large molar mercury removal following the Huggins Protocol. After about 5 months as my blood mercury level was probably down I begun chelating. I’ve been building myself up to start for some time: taking vitamin c, e, selenium, magnesium, zinc, calcium and occasional whey protein shakes containing casein. Then I found out about Nature’s Sunshine and after ordering some of their supplements and trying them, I threw my old ones away and ordered their replacements. Now, equipped with the supplements I ordered 2 more things to add to my repertoire, namely Heavy Metal Detox and 5-HTP powder. The latter one is not a chelator, but is a serotonin rebuilder (like an antidepressant but natural and without side effects). I started to chelate right after my birthday (overseas) on which I also quit smoking as I set myself on the road to health, and since mercury is the cigarette smoke, I did not want any of that as it is counterproductive if you chelate. I started with 1 HMD per day as I was informed by Russ. After popping the first pill I started to feel some effect about half an hour into it. It was occurring in my head and is similar to the one produced by an upper, but with decreased concentration. I suppose that it is all due to the ALA in the HMD. However, knowing that ALA can cross the blood brain barrier only motivated me to start HMD, for I would like to address my mental symptoms a.s.a.p. Also I would take 4 algins between meals so as to mop up all the mobilized mercury. After about 5 days I increased the dose to 2 HMD’s as is suggested on the label. After taking stock of how I feel, I thought that I could tolerate more HMD and so as to speed up the process. However, I forgot Russ’ golden rule that mercury detox is not game of speed but endurance. So going on 2 HMD per day I developed headache and felt depressed. I would like to mention that taking vitamin c w/ bioflavonoids would really help relieve the symptoms but not for long. Now, I am back on 1 HMD per day. So my typical chelation day looks like this:
Breakfast with vit c 2000mg, vit e complete w/ selenium 400IU and 25mcg respectably, magnesium complex 100 mg, 1 pill 5-HTP Power and 1 pill of HMD.
1 hour after I take 4 pills of Algin 3800mg.
Lunch with vit c 2000mg, 1 pill of 5-HTP Power.
1 hour after 4 pills of Algin 3800mg.
Afternoon snack with vit c 2000mg
Dinner with vit c 2000mg, vit e complete w/ selenium 400IU and 25mcg respectably, magnesium complex 100 mg, and 5-HTP Power.
Before bedtime Algin 3800mg to sweep the remaining mercury.
On days when I do not chelate (2 or more days per week, depending on how I feel) I do everything as above, but exclude Heavy Metal Detox. So I protect at all times even when I give my body break from mobilization. Regarding the 5-HTP, I don’t know if it’s all that great. I heard on the radio that it’s supposed to make you feel much happier, and so far I haven’t noticed that, but again I am chelating so mercury is being moved around. Now, I can go like this for as long as necessary to chelate all the mercury out. However there are some nuances. I don’t know if what I am doing is safe! The current thread posted by Bex on ALA made me think what if I am just moving mercury around without any chelation? Then I am doing more harm than good. But as I take plenty of Algin, isn’t that supposed to sweep up all the mobilized mercury? What if as I read on this forum, I am one of those whose body does not mobilize mercury? Does DMSA mobilize it or none chelators do if it’s hereditary? Does DMSA binds to mercury tighter than ciliantro, N-Acetyl-L-cysteine found in HMD? As ALA opens the path to the brain more mercury can be redistributed back in the brain is a scare. But in HMD isn’t everything perfectly blended in right proportion so that that won’t happen. This should be good news for someone like me for HMD mobilizes the organs and the brain simultaneously whilst having the path to the brain unlocked.
