In a kingdom somewhere, the King is ill and must make one of his two sons his heir to the throne. He makes the following proposition: His two sons will ride their horses in a race and whichever horse crosses the finish line last, its owner will become the next in line to the throne. During the race, the two brothers wander aimlessly for days, neither willing to cross the finish line. In desperation, they ask their wise mother for advice. She tells them something; then the brothers leap onto the horses and charge toward the finish line. What did the mother say?

Hi Denis! Well, good friend, you've done it again. You have asked a very confusing question in your Riddle! LOL! I have been pondering the answer for a few days now. I have a few folks trying to give some input, yet nothing yet. So don't give up on us. We are trying to figure this thing out. It's probably another one of your 'Darcy special' riddles. (you should get a smile out of that one). Once again, it's probably something very very simple, yet complex for someone who 'thinks' too long. LOL! I'll try to find Lynn...Bex might take a try at it. I will try again tomorrow, 'Lord willing. The Lord bless you, Denis. Have a wonderful Good Friday and Happy Easter as we celebrate the Risen Lord Jesus' resurrection! He's ALIVE! Thank you and Blessings, Abishag

I'm stumped. I have really tried to figure it out and cannot. I thought perhaps the queen told them the king was about to die, so they better hurry back Or perhaps she told them the King changed his mind and it would be the first to cross the finish line Or maybe, as they had eaten for sometime, she told them that she had a nice hot meal waiting Totally silly I know and not really an answer to a puzzle. But this is what happens when you rack your brains and find nothing coming out of it.

Hi Denis and Bex! (Thurs @ 11:45 AM, EST) I really like your 'possible' answers to "What did the mother say?", Bex. WOW! I like #3, LOL! (surely they must be hungry after 'wandering aimlessly for days end)! OK, Denis...I have a possible answer from my husband. 1) "The King has already died. So they rush back to get the Throne position!" I find it interesting that you have underlined the word, "LAST"....also I find it intriguing, by the fact, that you stated, "their wise mother for advice", rather than "The Queen Mother??? I await my brother's reply and another friend's input. The suspense is driving me 'bonkers'! LOL! Have we answered it correctly thus far? Thanks, Denis. Blessings, Abishag

Oh Wow Denis, ((( Smiles )))
Thats a toughy.. I have no idea what it could be.. That they were twins and the king is no longer sick??
Hummm...
then the brothers leap onto the horses and charge toward the finish line. What did the mother say?
crosses the finish line "last", its owner will become the next in line to the throne??
What if it's a tie.. There both first and last who wins then?? That is a tricky one indeed.. ((( Smiles )))

First of all Scott says Hi Denis & Abishag Next Scott said.. IN the puzzle about the two sons, the mother told the sons to "Switch horses". Since the owner of the horse which comes in last becomes king, if the brothers switch their horses, they will both ride as fast as they can to try to get their brother's horse over the finish line first. Sounds good to me.. ((( Smiles )))

IN the puzzle about the two sons, the mother told the sons to "Switch horses". That's the anwser! Look at the wording carefully: whichever horse crosses the finish line last, its owner will become the next in line to the throne.

Thank you, friend, for being such a good 'sport'! I'm still sitting here, trying to get this answer to sink in!!!! Can you believe it??? Thanks again, my friend.
