Hi - I haven't posted in awhile but I have mercury poisoning and got all of my 9 fillings out in August. It has been 7 months - I have done any oral chelation but do got to the sauna every day. I started at 20 minutes and have worked my way up to 1 hour and 15 minutes. I detox in cycles - with about 2-3 weeks of feeling really good and then about 2 weeks of detox. The good cycles seem to be getting longer. When I detox I have trouble breathing, headaches, digestive problems, jaw pain, tooth pain, anxiety, etc. This month seemd like more detox - maybe due to increasing sauna time or the 6 month dump. I often question if I am doing enough - am I getting better well yes but sometimes not fast enough I think. I wonder if the sauna is enough detox - well I also get massage every 3 weeks, chiropractor 2x week, and mega supplements - vit c, e, b25, zinc, mag, molybdenum, pantetine, panothetic acid, algin, and some others. Andy says 1 hour in sauna equals 50 mg DMSA every 4 hours for a day so I'm thinking that I have been chelating for 7 months straight and if that's the case then I should be better than I am. Am I expecting too much? AM I doing enough? Oh - I also have done 2 parasite cleanses - 1 in August and I'm doing another now - maybe that's why I have feel crappy this month. I also take SF722 which is supposed to help mercury. I do not eat yeast free - I am gluten free and I don't eat pure sugar but I do eat carbs and fruit. I tried yeast free once and I lost like 40 pounds and was malnourished - not good for me. Any thoughts on my method?

Fruit makes me much worse. I thought I needed it for the fiber, but vegetables have enough fiber. I am still off sugar, but did add back wheat to my diet. My diet was too low in carbs and I was hungry all the time. I am now focusing on iodine supplementation, as well as other mineral supplements(iron, zinc, magnesium, calcium, selenium, copper and molybdenum). I am taking high dosage iodine, around 15 mg a day.

I am also using plenty of herbs such as cayenne, garlic, ginger, cinnamon, licorice root, and peppermint.

JK, how do you do on wheat? I cannot consume it, because not only is it high in carbs, but I used to get poisoned after eating it. I'd get severe mercury toxic symptoms. I remember after eating wheat (whether from the base in pizza, or cereal etc), I would go into a severe state of toxicity.

I found out wheat is treated with mercury fungicide. Couple that with the fact it contains gluten - which for those who are gluten intolerant can cause massive health/gut problems, and I see wheat as being a big problem. It can also in doing these things, hinder the absorption of nutrients/minerals. So directly for me it was bad, but also indirectly over time it.

When I first gave sugar and wheat/gluten up, the improvements after a few weeks were marked. I even had some normal body warmth return and my hands were warmer, but that is not counting what it did for the rest of me at that time.

Hal Huggins actually advises against the consumption of sugar/wheat/gluten for those mercury toxic. And to make sure they consume enough proteins from meat/eggs and enough animal fats in butter etc. Salt is also important to get enough of.

You can get higher carbs in plenty of other foods that may not be so "risky" as wheat. Plenty of other non wheat/non gluten grains to choose from. Carrots, potatoes, etc. But it's up to you. If you feel ok on the stuff? Then you may not have the issues I did! I was seriously poisoned by it. Giving it up was one of the best things i ever did.

I doubt there is much if any mercury in wheat. Apparantly there is bromine added to wheat though. Perhaps you may be sensitive to gluten or bromine? I have not seen any evidence that wheat is exposed to mercury. Do you have any links showing this?

Yeah, it could have been the bromine. I'm not sure. I supposed at first it was gluten and it may have been - but I didn't used to get so ill from consuming rye or oats (which I think contain gluten).

So I'm not certain exactly what it was, but the effects from consuming a wheat products was dramatic. I would get ill afterwards with mercury toxic symptoms. Either it was the mercury already in me and the wheat had simply weakened my body towards it, or I was being directly poisoned by whatever was contained in the wheat.

In Hal Huggins book "It's all in your head", he mentions on page 158 certain foods should be avoided in those with mercury toxicity. And one is "grains treated with methyl mercury fungicides, especially wheat".

He also mentions kelp and other seaweeds. Large saltwater fish like swordfish, salmon, cod, etc. Shellfish, including shrimp, lobster, crab, oyster, etc. Tuna, canned or fresh.

And from there he goes onto certain types of cosmetics and medications etc.

It could also be that you have an allergy to yeast.

"In Hal Huggins book "It's all in your head", he mentions on page 158 certain foods should be avoided in those with mercury toxicity. And one is "grains treated with methyl mercury fungicides, especially wheat"."

"The use of the mercury fungicides continued until the 1970’s when concern developed over their toxicity to man and other animals. Residues of these mercury seed treatments were found in game birds that had eaten treated seed that had blown off trucks or had spilled on the ground near seed treating stations. In addition, several unfortunate incidents of human poisoning occurred from people eating treated grain directly, or eating meat from animals that had consumed treated grain. These poisonings finally sealed the fate of the organic mercury fungicides and today they are no longer used in the United States and have limited use in other parts of the world.
"

Swordfish has plenty of mercury as does tuna, however salmon is low in mercury. Shellfish varies, but some may be low in mercury.

Many people with candida react adversely to yeast. I think that posed a problem with me also - but the wheat reactions were not just from consuming wheat bread/pastries etc but anything with wheat. Wheat cereal etc.

If you find you're ok with gluten, and the wheat is no longer treated with mercury fungicides in US, I see no reasn to stop other than if it's causing issues with candida (as a higher carbohydrate food).

It's odd how it created such toxic reactions in myself after consuming it. In fact, I went off it and then tried to eat it and the symptoms of poisoning were almost immediate. Cold hands and feet, bluish tint to the nails, some tremor, some crying/salivating. Much increased mercury symptoms. So again, I cannot state for certain if it directly poisoned me with what it may have contained, OR indirectly by causing my system to be vulnerable to the mercury inside of myself.....

I've tried it a few times in recent times and I don't get those reactions now. But I still get sick because my candida tends to worsen upon consumption of it, or I'm somewhat gluten intolerant. Either way, it doesn't seem to be a food that my body responds well to.

Yeah, I have heard salmon is pretty low in mercury. As are sardines. A good test was when I had amalgams and ate tuna oneday (in a can) and I was bedridden for the rest of the day with metal toxic symptoms! I also had a bad reaction to cod liver oil once too. But I don't remember getting that with certain other types of fish like Hoki, salmon/sardines.

I have to be ultra careful now though, because I'm weaker than I was then, so I tend not to consume fish, but rather a tested mercury free fish oil instead.

Hi mercuryfreeme,

Just responding to your top post. 7 months post amalgam removal is early days. I did not even start dumping mercury until about a year and a half afterwards. I was very late. And even then, the process of detoxification was painfully slow.

It is not something that usually happens quickly or evenly or pleasantly. It is often very trying, very slow, very painful and very frustrating. There maybe some people who get their quicker and easier than others, depending on their level of toxicty, their immune status, their reactions to metals, and whether they are suffering from other problems at the sametime or not.

It tends to be a roller coaster ride. You can feel better, then you feel bad again and so it goes on until enough mercury is removed from your body. DMSA did help me alot. but only when done according to the 4 hourly routine. Taking it any other way would cause horrible redistribution symptoms. I did not use saunas, but I did have hot baths and found that I did sweat some of the metals out via the skin. That did help, as well as exercise (walking/rebounding). Diet was also necessary to keep me less toxic and help control yeast levels in my body to a more tolerant level.

It's not so much months, but possibly a few years that recovery is noted. Not that a person won't notice improvements along the way, but they are slow in coming and it takes time before improvements become more noticeable and last for long periods, instead of being momentary/short lived.

Alpha lipoic acid in the end is the one that removes organ/brain mercury. So a person may improve by the reduction of extra cellular mercury, but may not be cured if there is still plenty of intracellular mercury that must be chelated out with an organ chelating agent like ALA. That too should be taken appropriately, or it may make things worse. It needs to be taken after blood levels have been reduced first and taken every 3 hours around the clock.

I do not find the candida diet malnourishes me. This might be because i consume plenty of proteins in meat and eggs, plenty of animal fats in butter etc. I don't just exlude foods, I make sure I get enough of the good foods and fats. So I don't tend to lose weight, but I actually gained some healthy weight as my body absorbed more nutrients and I gained a healthier appetite. I find that fruit and other high carbohydrates feeds my candida and yeast is a problem also. I would be careful with those!

As you are 7 months post amalgam removal, you are of course at a time when you could conceivably start ALA chelation to start getting the organ mercury out of you. It maybe better and safer to use DMSA with it. Both need to be taken at the sametime together, so if you need to take ALA every 3 hours, then DMSA will need to be taken with it at the sametime.

Sweating is excellent, but I would look at doing the chelation at some point soon if you can to chelate the organ/brain mercury out of you. I am not sure how effective sweating is on organ mercury. I know it excretes metals via the skin, but I am not aware it removes organ/brain mercury and that is very important.

The bromine in bread and perhaps some pasta as well is a concern. There are some bromine free breads, however they may not be so easy to find. Iodine used to be used instead of bromine, and some people want iodine to again replace bromine. They also want iodine to be placed in tap water to replace chlorine. So many people in the US are iodine deficient, yet bromine and chlorine are used instead of iodine.

Yes, we have the problem here in New Zealand of iodine defiency. The content of iodine in our soils is low, as is selenium. Could this be why we have one of the highest cancer rates in the world? Despite our clean/green image and environment? One must wonder! The essential elements are low in our soils and the impact on health I gather can be profound.

So in my ignorance, I gave up a source of iodine in iodised salt, and used natural salt as an alternative. I had nothing to fall back on in regards to gaining iodine from foods I was consuming. Over time, I was alarmed at the deterioration, which caused worse symptoms than normal. I knew something was wrong. So testing discovered severe lack of iodine.

I went back on iodised salt as a test and with my multi vitamin/mineral supplement powder which contained iodine, I picked up within a day or two. It was a very speedy improvement. So I knew how much I desperately needed iodine. I do not advocate the use of table salt as a rule, as there are other ways of getting enough iodine. But it does go to show that it is a very necessary element and natural salts do not appear to contain enough to cover a person living in a country that is already low in iodine.

I think now they have or are going to replace bromide with iodine again in bread here in new Zealand because of the alarming rise in iodine deficient illnesses increasing in new zealanders. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/food/news/article.cfm?c_id=206&objectid=10498883

Yes - I am celiac and have been gluten free for years now. I think this recent flare is due to eggs - I have symptoms after having sulfur products especially eggs and garlic. I can't tolerate garlic or selenium very well at all. I was feeling a little better and had eggs for a couple of days and then starting with the trouble breathing and headaches again. I have been trying to postpone the DMSA route and hoping the sauna would be enough and I think it has. I still detox and get the roller coaster but I think the sauna has helped ALOT. I've been thinking about the ALA - I wanted to avoid it due to all of the horror stories I hear but I also don't want to inhibit a total recovery. I wanted to wait until the summer - I am a teacher and I am not sure how I will react to it. I have to research it some more and see if the sauna will eventually detox it all or not. I guess if the body dumps it then the sauna gets it out from the blood stream but does the body dump it from all the organs or do I need ALA for that? I was taking flax seed oil earlier on and it has it in it - I didn't know it at the time until I feel horrible and found out it was from that. It was a high amount though. How often are the rounds with ALA - 3 on and 3 off - why can't you just keep taking it so you don't get redistribution? Give your body a break I guess?

A sensitivity to sulphur by those who are mercury toxic is said to be a molybdenum deficiency. One other clue that you would probably be doing better if taking molybdenum supplements is if you are sensitive to most perfumes. Molybdenum is necessary for , and for breaking down aldehydes(a waste product of candida, also present in most perfumes, and what alcohol is broken down to in the body). If you feel like you have a hangover but haven't drank, you most likely are suffering from aldehyde toxicity.

http://candidapage.com/aldehyde.shtml
http://www.anyvitamins.com/molybdenum-info.htm

Imo the first step is to take molybdenum supplements of 500-1,000 mcg a day. After a few weeks his will probably make you much less sensitive to both sulpur and fragrances. Thorne makes a 1,000 mcg molybdenum supplement, or else you coluld get Carlson Moly-B tablets which are 500 mcg. You will need to be much less suphur intolerant to tolerate DMSA or ALA, as these are both very sulphur rich.

As a chelation round progresses, the symptoms usually intesify. After 3-5 days on, you will feel like you need a rest. Also during the chelation round, the body doesn't handle certain minerals properly(perhaps copper and zinc?).

ALA from flax oil is not the ALA that chelates mercury. They are just both abbreviated the same. ALA from flax is alpha linolenic acid and ALA that chelates mercure is Alpha Lipoic Acid.

Why are you resistant to chelate with DMSA and ALA? I ask because I tried the sauna route after getting my fillings removed and used it often but didn't get the results I was looking for, and finally after 2.5 years after getting my fillings removed I started chelating w/ ALA & DMSA because I realized I wasn't going to recover fully otherwise.

Your organs may dump some of the mercury...but ALA is necessary for getting mercury out of the brain, and its very helpful for getting mercury out of the organs and endocrine glands. I would reccomend that you try chelating with ALA soon, it really is the best way to recover from mercury toxicity.

Are you using an infrared sauna or traditional sauna? After doing research I decided to purchase a traditional sauna to do my detox. Only just getting started on the sauna side of my detox.
