I?m really glad to have found this forum. Stumbled across it by accident. This is my introduction posting.

I?ve come to the conclusion over the last 2-3 days that I?ve been suffering from mercury poisoning for approx. the last 15 years and I didn?t realize. Amazing thing is I?m a doctor (30 years old) but this just isn?t something we are taught at med school.

I can see now that there is a link between my dental work and the myriad of health problems I?ve developed over the past 10 years. For those of you guys long in the group these will be really obvious but when you know nothing about mercury poisoning and are told by your peers that amalgam ?has no scientific evidence against it? then its not even something you consider!

As a kid I had 4 amalgam fillings. This may not seem a lot but I?m certain this was plenty for me. These fillings were removed (without protection) and replaced with composites when I was a student between 1994 - 2002. Shortly after the first 2 were replaced I experienced my first round of depression. Five or six bouts followed in total, 3 of which lead to my hospitalization. Anxiety, horrific insomnia, aggressiveness, irritability, asthma and several food allergies also all developed over the course of the next 4-5 years.

Multiple chemical sensitivity followed. I was/ am affected by particular washing detergents, emusifiers, laundry agents, chemicals used to make cheap press-wood furniture and most recently adhesives and acrylic compounds used in dental procedures .

Most debilitating of all has been the the brain fog that slowly but surely has settled in: - memory loss and lack of concentration. I?m not going to go into how horrific this was for someone who up until then had been an energetic, talented, capable achiever ? as I?m sure many of you know exactly what this feels like.

I have become aware of detoxing during the last two years and though not knowing the cause of my problem was mercury have made general regular attempts with sauna, mineral supplements, chlorella and ALA. I have had some good results and some symptoms are lots better. And that?s without any direction at all. I?ve just recently heard about Andrew Cutler?s book and have ordered this. I?m hopeful now that with proper protocol I should be able to make bigger better leaps towards good health again once I know how to deal with the problem.

I suspect also that being part of a discussion group like this is really important. Exchanging ideas, info and experiences with others who have suffered similar somehow is invaluable. I think it?s the whole fact of being taken seriously.

Excellent! Only Andy's detox protocol works! Get his second book also http://www.noamalgam.com/hairtestbook.html .And burn your medical books immediately!!! When you read his book you'll see why. It's not that mercury poisoning can mimic all illnesses. Almost all illnesses ARE mercury poisoning! B

I'm so sorry that you are a victim of mercury amalgam illness and I share in your suffering. However, I want to say that even though I wouldn't wish this on anyone, I think more doctors need to be afflicted so that something can be done to stop the placement of mercury amalgam fillings in people's mouths. These fillings have been banned in many countries including Sweden and Canada and more recently, they've been banned in California. When I think of how my health of both mind and body was destroyed by a poison that a dentist placed in my mouth, it sickens me!! I feel so helpless that I can't do anything to stop this. As I type this message, these fillings are being placed in children's mouths. They're going to continue to destroy people's brain function along with their physical health. Personally, mine started at age 27 with panic attacks, then extreme irritability, then chronic fatigue syndrome and finally bipolar disorder. I am currently under the care of a psychiatric facility which knows that we have these problems because we are poisoned by our dental fillings. You just don't know how comforting that is. They manage the symptoms, give you lots of supportive therapies and then see you through chelation. Thank God for people like them. I'm still praying I will recover because I know I cannot continue like this. I need to get the mercury out and have just started chelation. The original doctor who checked my levels said he was surprised I was "still walking". I had every tooth in my mouth filled with an amalgam plus two root canals packed with amalgam which are even more toxic than the fillings.

Anyway, maybe because you're a doctor you can do something because nobody listens to the rest of us because we are just crazy!!. If it weren't for the naturopaths, I never would have known why I became so ill. This has got to be stopped.

Andrew Cutler's book will be a great tool for you. It will also help you to understand why you are experiencing certain symptoms.

Yeah there is a general attitude out there in the medical community of - if I can't explain it, it can't be possible. You must be imagining it.
There are some gems out there too though - it's just a matter of finding them.

Welcome to the Mercury Forum. I recognize every single symptom you mentioned and have experienced the brain fog and memory loss (both short-term and long-term) first-hand. The good news is that now that all my fillings have been removed, the brain fog is gone and my memory has been improving. Hopefully, you will experience the same recovery now that you know what's really going on!

Dr. Cutler's Amalgam Illness book is an excellent reference and I think you'll really be able to appreciate his thoroughness.

I have actually followed a very slow, mild detox process because I am very sensitive to things that expel mercury from the tissues: cilantro, ALA, etc. Like you, I have taken chlorella and found that as long as I take Algin with it (which binds to the mercury so it can be eliminated through the colon), I don't experience "mercury symptoms."

I've actually met a lot of people through this forum that have tried detoxing with supplements like ALA (alpha lipoic acid) and they feel sick or have an increase in their old mercury symptoms. This happens because ALA and other detox supplements actually cause mercury to be expelled from the tissues. However, if there's nothing to bind to this mercury, it gets reabsorbed into the systemic circulation and redistributed. So far, Algin has been the best supplement I've found for this purpose. I've posted a link to information about it in case you want to know more.

There are a lot of articles, etc. that have been posted in the past on this forum. I even believe we've posted some studies published in various peer-reviewed medical journals about mercury poisoning. You will most likely find this information to be very interesting. Unfortunately, medical schools aren't educating doctors about this "very real" epidemic... could it be because pharmaceutical companies make more money if people are sick??? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Thank you for the information. At the moment while I?m waiting for the book to arrive I?m just taking some multiminerals, 1 x 500mg chlorella and doing regular sauna. All my amalgams are out and I?m quite keen to get started on chelating.

I?m suffering mercury symptoms pretty much 24/7 right now but am coping ok. I?ve been looking at a lot of the entries and from what you and Russ Tanner have written I can see that algin would be a fantastic addition that I could even start on right now, before the book gets here. Sounds great.

Having slight problem tracking down a supplier though. I currently live in Wellington, New Zealand and during the last few hours on the net, I haven?t been had much joy in finding an online store (in the US or elsewhere) that can deliver down to this part of the world. If you, or of course anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know! I?m keen to get started on it.

Yeah, I don?t know to what degree the pharmaceuticals companies play a roll in the whole thing.. I think a lot of the attitude one encounters when talking to other healthcare professionals boils down to pride. If they don?t know or don?t understand they won?t admit this. You?re much more likely to hear ?that?s not really possible?. I see example of this around me frequently ? colleagues reactions to acupuncture, homeopathy, CFS, MCS?? It?s quite sad,

It looks like Nature's Sunshine Products (NSP) in the United States is the only manufacturer of a good Algin supplement. I did find one other company, but their algin supplement contained something else, pepsin I think, and the algin was in a much smaller amount.

I completely agree with you about the unfortunate attitude of many allopathic healthcare professionals. In fact, my business partner, Russ, grew up in a family of doctors. He experienced first-hand the attitudes of many of them and their professional colleagues. You're absolutely right...many doctors just cannot admit that they don't know something. We've even experienced doctors making things up just to have an answer available. And of course, many doctors have a completely close-minded view of alternative medicine and therapies.

Fortunately, there appears to be a growing number of doctors who are beginning to open their minds to alternative medicine and even incorporate alternative medicine into their practices. Unfortunately, it may be too little to late, given the passage of CODEX in Rome on Monday, and the pending passage of CAFTA here in the U.S.
