Can I take DMSA if I don't have a mercury diagnosis ?(I have high nickel) and have assumed mercury playing a role also.

I have 4 concerns about the algin you linked to:

(1) It contains copper

If you're suffering from mercury poisoning, you generally want to reduce copper intake.

(2) It contains chlorella

Chlorella is great for people who can tolerate it and for those who choose to use it as part of their detox program at the same time as the other ingredients in this combination. I prefer to stagger the timing of certain supplements, particularly when it comes to algin and chlorella.

(3) It contains MSM

MSM made me horribly sick soon after my removal because of the high sulphur which I generally recommend you keep low until it can be tolerated or as part of a carefully-controlled detox program. MSM can be very helpful in the right circumstance, but not too soon after removal... a time when Algin really shines.

(4) It contains Milk Thistle

Milk Thistle is great stuff. The only problem is that it can cause numerous side effects as a result of the liver detox process; which it stimulates. Again, not something a lot of mercury toxic people want too soon after removal.


Summary

I normally choose to take algin to (1) mitigate mercury symptoms or (2) buffer the effects of detox.


Taking a "pre-mixed" supplement like this is great if you know you want all the other stuff that's in it in the proportion it all occurs, however, the way I use Algin (as a single supplement) allows me to have the control I need to get the results I want.

Algin?as a single supplement?is my #1 favorite supplement for mercury detox.

I use NSP's Algin.

Always check the ingredient list.

Well...in my opinion and from my own personal experience with mercury detox, I would be careful if taking this supplement (Detox Support by Now).

First of all, 3 capsules only provides 500mg of Algin, whereas the Algin I use (from NSP) provides 475mg per capsule.

Second, this product also contains Chlorella and MSM, which will both expel mercury from your tissues. Although I have used Chlorella successfully (with Algin!), I cannot tolerate MSM, even with Algin. MSM detoxes me too quickly causing me to feel sick and get headaches and other "mercury" symptoms.

Thirdly, this product contains Bladderwrack, which is a seaweed. Unless this company rigorously tests for heavy metal contaminants, the bladderwrack they use may actually contain mercury. You may want to contact the company to see if they test for heavy metals, specifically mercury, before you try it. Few supplement manufacturers test their products to the strict level that NSP does, plus NSP (which is based in Utah) voluntarily adheres to California's Proposition 65 (this legislation was created to ensure that any product sold within the state of California would not contain hazardous materials at harmful concentrations...it is the most restrictive law in the country.)

Lastly, this product also contains Milk Thistle. Milk Thistle is an excellent liver detoxifier and is the best herbal supplement for supporting healthy liver function. However, it can also cause people to experience certain "detox effects" if they take too much or if they detox too quickly (you might experience mild nausea, headaches, mood swings, irritability, or even skin rashes in some cases, especially if the intestinal system is not functioning in a healthy manner (the toxins have to go somewhere and if the colon is already loaded, the toxins will begin to come out through the skin which can cause a rash)). Don't misunderstand me, Milk Thistle is excellent...you just may want to start slowly. Unfortunately, since it is included in a supplement with other detoxifiers, the combined effect may be too much for some people.

Although I have tried a few NOW supplements (several years ago), I generally don't think their potency is very high (I managed 2 herb stores in Tampa, FL and the NOW brand is considered an "economy" brand). Personally, when I took the NOW products, I never really noticed any positive effects.

I can say that I personally don't take either MSM or Milk Thistle because my body cannot handle their detox effects yet.

Most people I've talked with have made the same mistake I did in the past by trying to detox too quickly. I've come to the realization that for most people, it's best to detox nice and slowly and make it a lifestyle change rather than a race.

I'm assuming your high nickel is showing up on a hair analysis, correct? Well, high nickel on a hair analysis is a big indicator of mercury toxicity according to metal expert, Andy Cutler. Another good indication is an elevated calcium level on a hair analysis, even if mercury hair is very low. There are various debates on how to interpret them, but I know that high nickel and high calcium are big indicators for sure.

Interestly enough my calcium is low/normal range. Which I was recommended to take more calcium when I got that back. Guess what? I already was taking 1200 mg a day! for the 3 months leading up to that test. That surprised the person that recommended it. Hair tests are good but bizarre sometimes. I got my two amalgams out, so we'll see!!!!
