Hey SoSick, I looked up what you were talking about with the blood atonement thing and can see what would concern you. I did find an explanation which explains what the authors that got this going got it from with a member's rebuttal. As I thought, things were twisted. There is a movie out, too, about the Mountain Meadows Massacre. That did happen, but not sure what the accurate issues were except that there were people nursing grudges and resentments from the murders that had been perpetrated on loved ones not to mention the deaths of people being forced into the wildnerness dying from exposure, etc. I don't claim people didn't make mistakes, but it does not reflect on church doctrine. There were a lot of injustices within the govt. toward the church, etc. People just got fed up, but that doesn't justify what happened. I started watching the movie but the claims are false. I can't say people have not at times perverted the Gospel within the church, but this movie is not an accurate view either. Just fyi for a fair counter from a member's perspective on these authors claims (the ones who got this issue started similar to the book that came out "The Godmakers" which also twisted things. A member also wrote a rebuttal on that titled "The Truth about the Godmakers") http://www.fairlds.org/Mormonism_201/m20110.html
