I saw someone post on here about the acetaldehyde connection to mercury symptoms before and did some surfing about it. I'm intrigued!

I'm wondering if my polyneuropathy is caused by it? I get nerve pain when I eat carbohydrates and sugar (more complex carbs make it worse than sugar and fruit), but I'm not diabetic; I'm actually hypoglycemic. So, I'm wondering if acetaldehyde production from feeding the yeasty beasties is the cause of that pain. God help me -- I'm so sugar addicted. I get over it and then can't help but binge every 6wks or so. I'll binge for a week or so and then be able to stop for a little while. I think that's adrenal related. Argghhhh, this is so frustrating!

I was just pondering that same exact thing! I've been eating and craving sugar lately. Likely due to hormones and lack of sleep - and am hurting!!! Also I've noticed I get this weird little sore like thing on the corner of my mouth. I believe that is an imbalance of my flora (Yeast) from all the crap. I choose "good" crap but sugar is sugar. I have seen the connection before there but it fled from my mind : ) Hopefully this realization will help me use better discipline. I find that when I crave that kind of crap I love brown rice!!! I feel good when I eat it, too. Sweet potatoes and artichokes, I noticed, help quell those cravings after the holidays and such as well. My dear husband thinks he's being kind when he brings me goodies but its not good for me... He drinks soda like crazy.... He has those little mouth things. I worry about him. I see the degeneration happening. He's almost 8 years older, but the soda in excess takes its toll I fear. I worry about cancer, actually.....

Manonosh - let's help eachother. Seriously - PM me if you want and we can help each other by reporting or something unless others also need that support. Its my weakness too and I'm insulin resistant. I've been losing weight for no reason, too. I have GOT to get a grip. On that note should go for a walk or something.

Cinnamon can help with insulin resistance. It is also antifungal. It might also satify your desire for something sweet. Cinnamon has no sugar in it, just a bit of complex carbohydrates.

I was the one who posted the links about acetylaldehyde. They explain why people with a candida problem feel so bad, why they are sensitive to fragrances, cigarette smoke, diesel fumes, etc., and what they can take to help break down the acetylaldehyde in the body made by the candida. See below for the links.

I think I'll start sprinkling cinnamon on my ezekial toast with honey... (or does that defeat the point)? K - I'll try it alone! I should take chromium, too. Exercise is a biggie, too, but I actually got a lot today working. Just need to balance out my body. Is PH affected? I have books on that. Anyway - thanks on my part....

Honey is loaded with sugar. I have given up all sugar rich foods, grain products and fruit for now. It was hard for me to do, since I have been so addicted to pasta.

True - honey is sugar. Tupelo isn't supposed to go affect insulin, but I imagine it still affects yeast??? I do well with brown rice, still, and Ezekial bread, but have a grain intolerance anyway. I like stevia - at least that is an option in some things. I'll have to start drinking tea when i want something sweet, too. Stevia Plus isnt' bad and its also good for you! I feel pretty good when I stick to a low carb diet..

Licorice root has no sugar and is very sweet. Licorice tea tastes great. Make sure the licorice tea you get has no added sugar.

Jeanie, thanks. It's always good to have comraderie with a struggle.

JK98: Thanks for your original posting on this. After I saw it I started looking it up and sure enough, it sounded an awful lot like me. I think the AH is responsible for my neuropathy. It flares up within 5-15minutes of eating things like bread and potatoes and corn, and within 30 minutes of eating table sugar. It bothers me for about 2hrs and then starts subsiding unless I eat the junk again. I'm going to go read your links now, too. Thanks again!

I wonder just how much alcohol/adetaldehyde those little buggers can make? I read one anecdotal tale of someone with enough alcohol in their system to make them drunk yet they never drank. I wonder...

I've looked at your links and those were great info. My daughter is still nursing, so some of the supplements that may be helpful may have to wait for a couple more months. I think she'll be done with the nursing soon.

My main issue is energy. When I eat enough carbohydrates to have any, the yeasties go wild. No matter what carb I eat, it hurts. I am quite thin and don't have much glycogen store to speak of and am probably not converting the glycogen stores I do have very well. So I feel danged if I do and danged if I don't. Hopefully, those supplements will help when I can add them. I can do the Vit C now. I'll have to look up some of the B vitamins and see if they are safe while breastfeeding. I know that niacin can cause problems but have no idea about the others. I'll check out the other supplements mentioned as well. Thanks again!

Good for you for breastfeeding! I did both mine till at least one. Had no dairy alternatives in our small town at the time to wean my first onto and then found something for the second one.
That in itself, though, takes a lot out of you (literally! : ) and tiredness at least, I thought, was normal. Worth that time period of sacrifice, though.

It also sounds like you may be eating "against" your blood type. I'm an O and feel pain when I eat potatoes or wheat. And corn messes with my insulin levels. Those are no nos along with dairy. Hard to adjust to, but there are ways. Worth checking into. D'Adamo's site has great stuff on that, the author for Eat Right 4 Your Type. I have all his books - well - most.

Those who are thin and have trouble getting enough calories on a low carbohydrate diet can eat plenty of nuts and seeds. They are high in protein and high in calories, yet very low in sugars and overall carbohydrates. I used to be able to eat peanuts, but now can't tolerate them. Peanuts often have plenty of mold, and in general many people are sensitive to them. At least I can eat other nuts and sunflower seeds. I also gave up fruit, and eat low carbohydrate vegetables instead(no potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, peas, etc.) I used to be around 40 pounds overweight. Now I am at a good weight, and don't want to lose much more weight.

For those who are nursing, I can't see how B vitamins could be harmful in reasonable dosages(perhaps 50 mg a day or less of each?, Around 50-100 or so mcg of B12?), and would probably be beneficial to the infant. It would be better to take a B vitamin that has niacinamide rather than niacin, since some people get a very uncomfortable flushing feeling when taking the niacin form. It is not dangerous, but may make their face red, and cause plenty of sweating. Not fun. I had this a few times. Some of the more powerful antifungal herbs should be avoided while nursing. Things like clove oil, oregano oil, wormwood, and the other parasite cleanse herbs should be avoided while nursing. Imo it is probably best to even limit the amonut or raw garlic eaten while nursing.

I remember reading that niacin and I'm pretty sure niacinamide as well shouldn't be taken while nursing because a high enough portion of it makes it into the breastmilk giving the baby too high a dose for their size and can cause heart problems. That's why I want to look up all the Bs before I take any. You're right about BFing and antifungals. I think mostly because the die off dumps a lot of mercury and other stuff into the system thus increasing the amount in circulation which would also increase the amounts in breastmilk. So, I should probably taper off the carbs instead of trying to abruptly stop. When I was dropping my carbs below 15g per meal using peas, carrots, and nuts as my source of carbohydrate, the pain stopped, but my energy levels dropped really low and I got even thinner. The amount that is in the non-starchy veggies and nuts just doesn't seem to be enough for me to function. I could try again though and have a stash of them ready to go, and eat them several times a day instead of the 5x I was doing. Maybe that would keep a steady stream of carbs going.

Jeannie, I have LOVED breastfeeding and am mourning having to wean her. I was planning on letting her self-wean, but my health issues won't wait for that I don't think. Ever since my menstrual cycle came back, I've felt terrible. There's just something about estrogen that makes me feel bad. Many women have PMS; I have POS (pre-ovulation syndrome). I actually feel my best after I ovulate. I think estrogen encourages inflammation. So, I've decided I need to encourage her to stop nursing, so I'm tapering her off slowly over the next 3months or so. Well, that's the plan anyway.

A woman needs more niacinamide while breastfeeding.

http://www.drugs.com/cons/niacinamide.html

Of much greater concern is large doses of fat soluable vitamins while nursing. Eating raw garlic while nursing might give the milk a strange flavor, and the infant might consume less as a result. Therefore the amount of raw garlic eaten should be greatly limited.

Niacinamide is very nontoxic. If you are concerned though, then supplementation could be limited to just 20 mg a day while breastfeeding.

Nothing to feel guilty about Manonash... sometimes we have to. Its admirable you did it in the first place. I had a hard time with my first - it hurt so bad I would sit around with tea bags on me to heal. I had to still work and dealt with painful engorement...and then had a breast infection! I was determined and hung in there and it was well worth it, but not all women can and you needn't feel bad. I was relatively heatlthy at that point. If you need to detox not good when nursing IMO. I think i remember trying to just do some gentle cleansing like do raw veggies for a while. But everyone's circumstances are different.

My hormones are all over the place right now. I have no idea what is going on with my cycle. I had break through bleeding for about 2 weeks after my cycle and then missed it altogether. But I'm peri-menopausal now.
