It depends on your body (some people detoxify and heal much faster than others) and can take years if everything is done properly...though you should see improvement before that.

Patience is very important with mercury detoxification, don't rush it.

Everyone is different.
Depends on how sick you are.
Depends on how long you have been sick.
Depends how long the amalgams been in your mouth. If they only been in there for only 1 year maybe not so long. If they been in there 10 years….longer.

Some people miraculously get better after amalgam removal and don’t have to do anything else….some people get worse then get better(I did)…some people stay the same….

Also depends on what actions you take to help your body detox. Will you chelate? Will you do any cleansing? Will you eat a healthy diet? The more you do the quicker your healing will be.

As a rough guide, people chelating on the Cutler protocol take 1-4 years to get better.

I am 8 months amalgam free and I am getting better, but I must constantly detox and chelate….if I didn’t detox and chelate as much as I do my health would be standing still. I hope 2 years will be enough for me.

Hi Toxic123…welcome

Toxic123, I had the last of my amalgams out in mid 1997. I felt worse immediately, no doubt due to swallowing some of the amalgam, which caused almost immediate and dramatic poisoning symptoms. I improved somewhat after awhile, went into a kind of remission in a way. I did not really do chelation, I did basically "nothing".

My body decided to start dumping the years of stored mercury out of the blue, about a year and a half post amalgam removal. So I'd say about early 1999 it began and I even remember the day it hit. IT was like being repoisoned, but worse than how it was with amalgams, because this was detox.

I was really feeling very ill as the mercury was starting to shift. I had a DMPS IV, which brought the symptoms on even worse, and so dramatically that from then on, all I did pretty much was spend most days in a mess of detoxification. Most days were spent crying and salivating uncontrollably, which could last an hour or more a time. Then it would wane and build up again, only to occur again.

I tried many means to increase the detox, to try and speed up the removal of the metals, but it would of course increase symptoms, and sometimes intolerably. Though it left me feeling as though I had eliminated more metal. However, it would just build up again because more mercury would come to the surface.

I would have to say from the time my body started to dump mercury - 1999, that I began to notice improvements around 2001 - 2002. It takes about 2 years or more to start noticing improvements, though it varies from person to person. I made it much easier, faster and more effective when I started using Andy Cutler's chelation protocol. It still wasn't easy, but it got the mercury out more thoroughly and in a manner I could tolerate better. Though I didn't enjoy having to take a pill every 4 hours around the clock, and waking up wasn't exactly fun, but it was worth it.

It's not a race! Your body will do it's best to eliminate the poison, but much of it just gets reabsorbed again until the next round of detox. The body will try and detox the mercury naturally anyway (the more available mercury), without chelation. This can be aided a heck of a lot by antioxidants, which are highly important. I was helped a lot by vitamin C (powder), vitamin E and selenium. And a proper diet. Hot baths to help sweat through the pores of my skin. Moderate exercise (treadmill or mini trampoline/rebounding). And the Cutler protocol.

Those were the main things I did to detox myself of most of the mercury. The improvements that came at the end were remarkable and I hardly recognised myself, both mentally and even my appearance altered/improved markedly.

Bex, I just searched the number of amalgams poll thread, and noticed that you had 8 amalgams. I had 25 amalgams in 24 of my teeth.

http://herballure.com/ubbthreads/sh...in=249555&Search=true#Post251471

I am glad to hear that you got better over time.. I am now taking some time off chelation. My father wants me to avoid chelation since the fifth and sixth weeks of chelation made me feel so sick. Perhaps I could try chelation with 25 mg ALA in a month or so. I guess my body is probably getting rid of plenty of mercury on its own, and the last two weeks I did chelation it may have been releasing too much mercury.

Hi JK,

25 is disgusting. I don't know how the heck any dentist could implant that much amalgam in anybody's mouth, even they're supposedly aware that the limit it about 4 amalgams per mouth (so I heard). I could be wrong, but I have heard that it's wrong to go over that amount (even for them).

I think you would have a load of the stuff buried in your tissues/organs and I don't blame you for slowing down your chelation. It's not like the symptoms just stop after you stop the round, often they continue. The strain is evident too. You really need to have a break, and enough of a break to recover to where you feel you can start again on a lesser dose, which is very wise. To much too soon is deterimental anyway and in the long run, may even slow things down because you're pushing too hard and the body cannot keep up and then needs to try and recover.

It's slow no matter how you do it. It really does depend on many things as to how long it will take for each person. The stuff is so toxic that even detoxing is risky. Causes so many side effects too. I hope you will recover from this affliction. Go at your own pace and just do things to help your body heal up.

Thanks for the kind words. The vast majority of the 25 fillings were placed between around 40 years ago and around 20 years ago. They were placed by two dentists. I wonder how much mercury my body is excreting now. Do you think I should take MSM now or do you think that is counterproductive. I told my father that I was taking olive leaf extract and grapefruit seed extract. He wanted me to stop taking those. I stopped the grapefruit seed extract today, and ate raw garlic instead.

Yeah, it's astounding to me that you are even functional after having 25 amalgams, but i have heard similar. They were drill happy obviously and I recall that they once drilled teeth even when they didn't need to be drilled.

Raw garlic is good, but I don't react to it well, so I stopped using it. I react horrifically to garlic supplements, even moreso than the food. I figure it may have something to do with internal infection/bacteria reacting with the sulfur or something. Not sure exactly. But i used to do very well on it once before the infections. It's not die off either, but something else that reacts badly to it. I can tell it's just not ok for me.

However, on an excellent candida forum i was on, garlic was one food that the lady recommended to consume as a natural antifungal and possibly one of the best. The only other ones she mentioned was oregano oil. But she didnt' recommend much else. she said the only way to really deal with candida is building the immunity with the diet and natural antifungals like coconut oil, oregano oil and garlic and particular supplements which she felt were the only ones necessary. They were - vitamin C, vitamin E, magnesium/calcium (equal ratios), B complex (equal mg) which you can also get by eating beef liver or taking beef liver supplements etc and cod liver oil for vitamin A and D. I would HAVE to add selenium and zinc to this, as i feel they are highly necessary for mercury toxic victims as well.

she believes her diet alone, with the fats is enough to naturally chelate mercury and heal from this condition. I feel that she maybe taking that too far, but I do believe it helps. She believes butter is a natural chelating agent, as does Hal Huggins. i personally feel that its just a healing fat and maybe more protective.

MSM is very healthy, it's sulfur. Sulfur is usually depleted in mercury poisoning. anytime you supplement something mercury interferes with, you usually get symptoms because it then displaces and mobilises the mercury by competing for binding sites. HOWEVER, be careful with sulfur, you can overdo it and it can mobilise too much mercury in one go and you may find yourself getting too many symptoms. I would go easy personally. if you feel it's too much, drop it, or lessen it. you get enough sulfur from foods like eggs and vegetables like garlic, broccoli, leek, onions etc. MSM maybe a bit too potent. See how you go and monitor your symptoms, that's the only real way of doing it.

You may want to give things a break for now though and wait till things settle before trying MSM, or you may not know what is causing what at the moment.

Just a thought.

In addition to garlic, coconut oil and oregano oil, stevia, cinnamon, peppermint, ginger, and cloves are potent antifungals. Stevia and cinnamon are easy to work into the diet, and are nice replacements for sugar. Licorice root is also an antifungal, and helps with adrenal support and detoxification. I am afraid to drink more than one cup of licorice root tea a day though as it may raise blood pressure , so I also sometimes drink peppermint tea.

I also get a strong reaction to raw garlic, and feel a bit worse a few hours after taking it, but feel much better later. Raw garlic is an amazing supplement.

Sometimes I stir a tablespoon or two of cloves into a cup of water and drink it rapidly(it tastes horrible). It is a great antifungal and antiparasitic.

Licorice was very commonly used traditionally, and isn't as dangerous as some places make it sound. Its when people snack on large amounts of licorice candy made from the root, daily, for months at a time that they develop high blood pressure.

I used a tablespoon of licorice daily for 3 months in tea and checked my BP and it was no different than it was before starting the licorice.

Jinx, I had a reaction like that with licorice tea. Though it's just licorice, no sugar added, it fed my candida and I had to stop having it. So I agree with you. I've never had it since and won't be unless something miraculous happens with my health and I no longer have such bad yeast issues. Mine are so serious, that I cannot put one small foot wrong. It's bad enough even when I do everything right, but it gets FAR worse if I via off the diet even a little. That's what this virus has done to my immunity. Even worse than what the mercury did.

i think it's a no brainer bex, licorice maybe doesn't have the simplest sugar but it contains all those others natural sugars, it's ultra sweet to me, bascially it's like eating honey. and I hear you about the one small foot wrong, la week ago or so I ate some cherries, guess what happenned...

everything that is sweet makes my candida react, some people will think it's crazy, but I even react to xylitol for that matter (even though I kept denyig it initially.)

Yeah, true. The fact it tastes sweet, should have set off the alarm bells, but I guess I was hoping "in vain" that I could get away with it. You're similar to me Jinx, you cannot make mistakes on the diet. The backlash is horrible and the length of time it can take to get better again (if you can really call it better) is often weeks long!

I consider that in a case like this, there is more than mercury at play. When I was just mercury toxic, I only had to give up sugar, wheat/gluten and yeast. That was it. I could still eat some fruit, non gluten grains, milk in my teas and cereals etc and dietry efforts were always rewarded with sometimes dramatic improvements, whereas now it's just a form of trying to control things a bit more. So though I was mercury poisoned back then, I was still stronger and had better immunity than I do now with this chronic viral infection. Hard to believe that I preferred the mercury days than this, because at least healing was possible and I never had to stick to such a strict diet. However, the detox from mercury was hell on earth in another way and not something I would like to go back to either. But again, I was still stronger.

I really do think that people like us with such severe ongoing yeast issues that cannot via off even onto natural higher carb foods are experiencing an ongoing major immune suppression from something that possibly goes further than mercury.

I agree Bex, candida is the first sign of some immunosuprresion, the VERY FACT that even THE SMALLES DIET STRAYING, smallest amounts of sugar provides a reaction proves there has to be something VERY wrong.

Bex may I ask how was your candida issue in the period between the later stages of mercury detox (where you got better) and the viral infection?

JK, that concoction maybe just fine. It really does depend on how it effects you personally. Licorice tea once was ok for me, but not now, so I avoid it. Just a bit too naturally sweet I guess. THe other ingredients you have may offset some of what the licorice sweetness may do. Some do really well on licorice and have candida, so I'd say it's not too big of a deal for most people. me and Jinx are probably pretty extreme cases in this area I think.

Jinx. I had quite bad candida when I had amalgams are you know, but the diet (even just the looser version) worked dramatically well. I never had to get any stricter ever. But I also found I had dramtic symptoms upon cheating, but the cheating had to be with direct sugar, candy, wheat/gluten. I was fine eating potatoe chips and fruit and stuff. Lucky then eh?

When amalgams came out, I still had to stick to the diet but needs and reactions often change. I found that even though I was on the diet, my symptoms began to be pretty bad from the mercury dump regardless, so I often wasn't able to tell much difference. However, I found that my reactions to wheat/gluten were not the same. I was more tolerant of it. But still wiser to avoid that and sugar, as it did add to the problems to a point.

My later stages of detox when I was improving as time wore on? Well, I got away with FAR more. I remember cheating often, but basically still kept to a heatlhy diet. I had honey in my cups of tea (all day long), and was ok. I cheated on friday nights and had junkfood. I would notice some reaction the next day, but it only took a day to improve again, so my cheats never impacted me nearly as much. I simply tightened up a little again and improved rapidly. So as time wore on, I was improving. I will never know whether I would ever have been able to be completely free or not, as I believe I was still healing from mercury, even though I "felt" ok. I still felt that the diet to a point was always necessary. But never strict like it is now.

When the viral/bacteria infection got me, everything fell apart. Immunity so badly reduced, that I was a total and utter mess from then onwards. I also found my healing from mercury came to a standstill and chelation really stopped working or having much of an impact. My problems had changed and the looser diet was a bad move. I then had to go on this major strict diet to gain any kind of faint relief and there I have remained. I think due to long term poisoning from mercury, even if I had never gotten the viral infection, I may have always had to have been watchful to a point on the diet side of it and I was healthier and my body always told me when it was time to get strict again and my cheats never lasted long and my recoveries were rapid. I really was becoming healthier and healthier as the years wore on, so who knows what might have happened?

Licorice, cinnamon, and stevia taste sweet, but don't have sugar(i am talking about just the herbs, not some products made with these which might have added sugar).

I just took a cup of water and mixed in perhaps around two tablespoons each of ground clove and ground cinnamon. I thought it would taste bad, but it actually tasted good. I guess I put in more cinnamon than clove. These two herbs are potent antifungal, antimicrobial and antiparasitic agents.

The licorice I had was in the form of herbal tea and did not have added sugar. I used to be ok with it, but at some point after, I found that it seemed to make my yeast issues worse and I had to stop drinking it. I don't have any real explanation for this. I would like to have it, as I enjoy the taste very much. Unfortunately my yeast also enjoy it for reasons I don't quite understand.

Yeast symptoms and mercury symptoms can be nearly identical. I personally can't believe that it 'feeds' candida but I know firsthand it can make my mercury symptoms worse. Its a powerful herb for balancing the body and when your full of toxins, balancing includes releasing stored toxins.

Hi, it is not mercury. I can take any chelating agent, even at very high doses with little to no reactions. This includes, DMSA, ALA, cilantro, garlic, sulfur amino acids, sulfur foods/supplements etc. I suffered 20 years with mercury, and I know when my symptoms are exacerbated and am well aware when it's detox.

The licorice gave me no such symptoms, it simply created a worsening of gut problems that I already have anyway. When my gut problems worsen, I worsen also. Whatever is the issue, the licorice tea exacerbated the problem. It did not create any detox symptoms. I know when that happens and my symptoms worsen, I usually cry and salivate and then I feel better at the end of it. Not so with licorice.

I get similar if I eat a piece of fruit, only far worse. It then takes me many weeks to get back on track again after it. Not fun. same with high carb vegetables. If my problems were mercury related, as they used to be, then any or all of those chelating/mobilising agents would create symptoms. The only problems I have with ALA, is that it simply flares up the yeast and causes me to have to wait for a LONG time to hope for improvement after it. It gives me zero detox effects.

My problems these days, appear to be infection/viral related, rather than much else. That has dramatically lowered my immunity/resistance and has made me far sicker, far more vulnerable and much more suseptible to yeast overgrowth than I ever was before. I have to be hyper careful of many many things that contribute to the problem. Though many of those things may not effect most people, they do indeed effect me and licorice is one of them. Nothing major, but just mildly feeds the problem and it's better I knock even the questionable stuff out, considering I find it hard enough as it is.

It might be bacteria in your gut converting the amino acid histidine into histamine. I am curious. What reaction do you get when you eat cinnamon or clove? Cinnamon and clove are said to prevent bacteria in the gut from converting histidine to histamine, They are also antifungal, antibacterial, and antiparasitic.

Licorice is said to contain 25 antifungal compounds. You may have experienced a candida die off reaction from the licorice tea. It makes sense.

It is possible I guess. It didn't feel like die off though, but it's hard to tell sometimes. You could be right. Or, it could have been from some other healing reaction. However, again, I can usually tell if it is. I know myself pretty well and what symptoms are what (not always of course). Not sure about cinnamon, as I don't have it. I only ever take it if I ever had coffee with milk (which I can no longer have due to bad yeast). So I couldn't tell you what effects it would have.

I used to have tea with milk, honey and cinnamon when I was less unwell and did very well on it. I loved it and it was a great help to my health (believe it or not). But it was not so great when I got severe yeast problems as I have now. So I had to give it up.

Which is the milk and honey! They were the problem (and coffee).

But yeah I really do love the taste of licorice! I sure do. If I can ever have it again, I will. I'm just a little wary if you know what I mean. Right now, I'm not in an experimental mood with my health (doing a course), so I'm too scared to tip the balance anymore than it already is.

Milk has plenty of lactose. Plain yogurt with active cultures has much less lactose and is much easier to digest. Those with candida problems need more acidophilus. Those with candida problems should avoid honey. Licorice or cinnamon is sweet enough on its own, so no sweetener is needed. I am wondering to what degree garlic, cinnamon, cloves, etc. destroy acidophilus? I try to eat the yogurt well spaced apart from those herbs.

Yeah, which is why I steer clear of milk and eat acidophilus yoghurt instead. I am also ok on butter. But if I ever have any milk, I get a relapse.

I don't know that garlic, cinnamon etc would kill of good bacteria, I have never experienced that with either of them. i did very well at one stage, and that would not have been possible if they killed good bacteria, because I had a course of antibiotics (that kill both good and bad) and I was devastated by it. I still haven't really recovered from it either. Yet garlic and cinnamon never created any such responses.

Rather I have heard that garlic promotes the growth of good bacteria. I could be wrong, but certainly it never did my inner good bacteria any harm, or my reactions would have been similar to antibiotics I am sure. I cannot handle garlic supplements these days as I have some other condition that seems to be quite dangerous to me when I'm taking something so potent. I think it maybe shunting whatever toxins are there into my gut area, as I wind up in a heck of a lot of pain. Something is wrong with the gut, and I'm not sure if it's viral related, or jawbone cavitation related. Something went wrong around the sametime as I developed the infection. That's when garlic supplementation became risky for me.

Before that, with candida and/or amalgams, garlic was really good. However, when I was going through teh dumping stage of mercury following post amalgam removal, garlic was too powerful and would mobilise the mercury too much. But it was still great stuff.

So I don't think you may need to worry too much about the inner good bacteria, as I honestly do not think they are affected. I used to have cinnamon daily in my tea and did very well with it.

Garlic can be irritating to the digestive system if you eat too much or eat it on an empty stomach. I limit myself to just one clove at the end of a meal. I cut it into small pieces, chew it well, then swallow each piece with plenty of water.

It sounds like you might get some relief from ginger, clove, and cinnamon. While the antifungal effects of these may cause a die off reaction, they are said to be good for calming digestive disorders.

I just read that clove oil can be toxic in large quantities. I don't know about the powdered clove, but to be safe I will cut back on my clove consumption.
