I posted this somewhere else, just thought you guys would be interested of the implications.
I have one pen of goats that have purified RO water that removes chlorine and fluoride. All of my dairy goats stay in that pen (only six currently).
The other goats are in different pens and they just get tap water...which means chlorine and flouride.
Before I had the RO system...the goats would not eat all of the alfalfa. They would leave the stems and just would never finish it, leaving a lot of waste. After installing the system they started eating everything, and would clean out their feeding boxes. The ones in the other pen still only ate the stems.
When I put goats from the one pen with the good water to the pen with the tap water they became picky and wouldn't finish off all the alfalfa I fed them. Even if I overfeed the goats in the pen with the purified water they completely finish all of the alfalfa and just look extra wide. Even if I feed the goats on tap water very little, they still will leave a lot of wasted alfalfa.
Tap water obviously affects goats flora enough so they can't digest all of the alfalfa...which just isn't the case when they drink purified water, they will happily eat every piece of the alfalfa.
Just thought some of you might find this info useful...

Do you know much about water filters? I want one that does the whole house. Any ideas where to start?

I've never done much research on whole house (could be because I live in a remodeled bus and not a house ). The filter I have is RO + Deionization to remove the fluoride and I bought plenty of extra filters and the deionization media (which is the most important part for fluoride) It can do roughly maybe like 16 gallons a day. I paid only $100 + $30 shipping from a company called aquasafecanada on ebay, and I am very satisfied with it (had it about 8 months).
I do have fresh mountain spring water available to me 1/2 a mile down the road on the property I live at, but it supposedly is high in natural fluoride which kinda makes me a little paranoid.
Its sad that we have access to so much fresh water and they put poison in it before it gets to us. Good luck on finding a whole house filter, otherwise consider something like I have as its inexpensive and wasn't very hard to install (did take a little thinking though!)

Hello Mate, i am still hugely impressed with your milk fast.....Quality!
I drink bottled spring water which I get delivered in those big plastic water cooler bottles and that is fine and I plan on continuing drinking that. The plastic bottle is not ideal, but I have no other way to get spring water in my area. My choice is spring water in plastic bottles or filtered tap water…..after the research I have done spring water is the gold standard….i.e. water that has LIFE…..so I will stick with that. It is important because I drink a lot of water every day and have done for 1.5 years now.
However I still wash, bath and shower in tap water and wanted to get a whole house water filter…..its been on my to-do-list for a long time now.
