I'm getting all the info I can on what removing all my amalgams would entail. If I have a large fillings under crowns, how will a dentist go about replacing that? Would he/she remove the amalgam and build up a new "post/stump" with the porcelain filling material then put a porcelain crown on top of that? If so, how stable would this be. If I have most of my molars crowned already, am I doomed to be sitting in a dental chair (a Hg free one of course) for the rest of my life, or will I eventually lose those teeth no matter what I do?
Thanks! Shonda

Updating to say:
I found a Huggins following dentist in a small rural town about 45min from here. I called his office yesterday, and was impressed at least from the phone conversation. I'm holding full judgement until I go visit and hopefully get some references and see some of his work. He's given lectures at IAOMT conferences (well one that I saw online) and has been in trouble with "quackwatch" so that gives him some cred too LOL. Anyway....
I asked about the replacement under crowns and she said that they would remove the crown and then the amalgam per protocol, then they would build up a new base to put the crown on. She said they use some sort of non-leaching composite for the stump.
Question, does the stump and the crown have to be made of the same material in order not to leach since most crowns are metal based (inert metal, but still metal)? She said they maily use Empress but also used the zirconium ones too, crownwise.
