Had the final 2 mercury fillings removed this morning, thought I'd share some thoughts that may be helpful for those who are either already going through this process or are considering.

I started with 3 total, had the largest one out last Wednesday and then of course the 2 today. I violated the 7-14-21 rule by having the final 2 exactly 7 days later but from what I've read it is only a minior hit on the immune system with a day of feeling "down" or like a head cold at worst. I can deal with that. It was unavoidable as the office I am going to only does patient work on Wednesdays or I would gone with another day. So be it.

I had first read that the mercury fillings were bad for the body 13 years ago in Hulda Clark's book and always kept it in the back of my mind but never pursued having them removed.

What led me to believe very strongly that the mercury fillings were damaging my health was when my ear started ringing. Researching this situation I found it is called "tinnitus" and is often associated with people who have mercury fillings. During this research I also found out that eating hot foods activates the mercury as well as EMFs which of course come from appliances, particularly computer, microwave ovens, TVs, etc.

Funny thing happened. I realized that the ringing would get bad after eating hot food. Then it would get worse sitting in front of my computer. I'd leave the house, it would go away. I'd come back and hop on the computer and there it was. Same thing with the hot food. I'd eat a hot meal and it sounded like fire trucks from a 5-alarm fire. So I didn't need any convincing that that poisonous metal in my mouth was causing me health problems.

Also, I started to realize that foods high in sulfur were causing me irritation. Sulfur of course chelates mercury. Then I looked at my diet and realized that I had inadvertently migrated to a diet low in sulfur. That realization was very interesting to say the least and another indicator of mercury toxicity.

Other health situations I have seem to match up with mercury symptoms and the nice people on the board here who have shared their mercury situations seem to parallel mine. For those of us who are trying to heal ourselves and maximize our health I think we are all blessed to have found an avenue to accomplish our goal.

The first appointment last week went pretty well altho the dentist was going to not use the rubber dam until we discussed it further. I then made the decision to not us it. But after leaving the office I started getting concerned. A lot of people on this board insist that the rubber dam is used altho I've researched this and it isn't considered mandatory by IAOMT or Huggins.

When discussing the rubber dam today the dentist said he had discussed it with his colleages and some prefer to not use it as some of the fragments can go in back of the rubber dam and you can swallow the mercury that way. When they don't use the dam they are able to more fully suction your mouth. With the dam in place there's no suction back there. So it is a toss of a coin.

The receptionist in the office who I've built a good rapport with said she had 14 mercury fillings removed by this dentist and had some with rubber dam and some without and wasn't concerned one way or the other.

So today I decided to use the rubber dam since the dentist brought it up and seemed to want to be very accomdating. I'll say this: using the ruber dam is a lot more tedious and uncomfortable.

All in all I had a good experience with this office. The staff is very nice and the dentist who actually just works there the 1 day is very good and in particular put me very much at ease. His assistant was very nice and very good also.

So far so good, I haven't had any problems altho it appears from reading other people's experieces there is a chance of some reaction in the near future but I'm hopeful that things will continue smooth.

If I should have a reaction in the future I'm not going to blame it on using or not using the rubber dam, doing the procedure 7 days after the first or any other procedure the dentist used or decision I made regarding the process. I did the best I could and the dentist and his assistant did the best they could and now it is over. Time to move forward and not look back.

The office is in a northern suburb of Atlanta and the dentist is Wayne King for those of you who live in the area and would like to pursue having your mercuries removed. I'd recommend them.

Hi James, thanks for sharing and congratulations on getting this poison out of your mouth. I think you did the right thing. Nobody does everything perfectly by the way, there is always a "snag" somewhere.

I think you did as close to perfect as you could get based on circumstances and the dentist you chose obviously did things right the first time and you had trust in him enough to have him do the last two.

Yes, to rubber dam or not to rubber dam that is the question. I wouldn't have a clue, but seems it doesn't make too much of a difference with some people. I personally feel oxygen, suction and eye protection is probably wiser. You can't do much about the skin, it absorbs mercury too. I remember coming home from just walking into a dental office for a consultation (no work done) and I was a mess from the vapor already in the office environment. I had rashes all over my face by the evening and was crying and itching. Because I am weakened by other things and obviously hypersensitive to mercury. So it is unavoidable.

Wish you all the best on your journey from here on in. And yeah many people experience the second phase of suffering, but not all. I guess though it's the body's reaction to no longer requiring to store mercury everyday and finding it can now start to offload the storage.

DMSA worked well for me. I just did the 4 hour routine Cutler style. Worked the best, did the job. Other stuff moved metals too, but too erratically and created intolerable symptoms that I just could not handle. Cutler's was reasonable and cleared alot of it out of me. Sure, there was pretty still mercury in me, but DMSA did enough to where I was getting healthier again and felt no need to take on the ALA.

But whatever works for you? Go for it. People have different methods, try different ways and usually discover what works. The one I'd be careful of experimenting with is alpha lipoic acid. That seems to be the real risky one and one I'd leave out of it, until I was clear enough of body mercury to try it at all and even then I'd use cutler's way.

Some people use garlic supplements, cilantro, chlorella, many ways and means of chelating/mobilising mercury (DMPS). Some do well, some do not. Some do ok sometimes and not other times. Mercury is a very weird thing and hard to handle. It's almost got a life of its own....guess that's why they call it quick silver.

I found diet highly important in the overall healing process and Hal Huggins suggestions are great. Ousting sugars, gluten, caffeine, (and probably yeast too), and consuming protein foods and good fats (butter especially). Seems to be very healing in mercury toxic people. Having candida, this was essential for me either way.

Cheers.

Hi Bex, thanks for the kind words and always your thoughts and ideas.

I'm not quite sure where I'll go from here but I'm probably more conservative in my approach and as you know I'm not real big on pills and supplements.

Read a book once by Dr. Bernard Jensen a renowned author whose sole focus is the colon. He says that all illness emanates from the colon and the way to heal yourself is by cleansing your colon. Of all the stuff I've read on health I agree with that more than anything.

Of course it helps if you aren't being mercury poisoned too.

Dr. Jensen's thoughts would be that if you cleanse your colon your organs then have a natural pathway to cleanse and heal themselves, i.e. the organs would go into "self chelation" mode. So we'll see, I won't rule out some of the things that you and the others have done, best to keep an open mind.

Hi James, you're welcome. Yeah, I think these cleanses can be most helpful to open up those pathways in the elimination areas and allow any build up to also be disgarded, which would obviously allow the body to better handle the other stuff and heal a bit too.

Sunshine is a prime example of what parasite and bowel cleansing (plus diet) can do for someone. He is also chelating, but the cleanses appear to have really put him on the right track (as well as amalgam removal obviously).

Amalgam removal is at least turning the tap off. Your body will now have the chance to deal with this and heal from it with your efforts - whatever way you decide to do it and what suits you.

I also found for me that treadmill walking and rebounding was excellent. Because this stimulates the lymph as well as the circulation and promotes toxins to also be elminated via the sweat all at the sametime. I guess it's a case of getting all these pathways stimulated and cleared too.

Like the liver, kidneys, colon, skin, etc. So I think you're taking a wise approach. The problem though with mercury though is it requires actual chelation also, not just a clearer pathway to eliminate. Because without chelating agents, it may not readily come out. It's stored tightly usually in the tissues and organs.

Perhaps it's combination of stimulating it into circulation and then making sure your pathways are cleaner and more open to help some of it come out, rather than all circulate over and over and get reabsorbed.

like with my possible gangrene. This is not really a case of opening up pathways as such. This stuff would poison the most healthy person because it has become systemic. When a person's immunity keeps the cavitation bacteria in check (localised) a person may not notice a problem. But when barriers are down, sometimes this bacteria can then spread and it can cause the entire body system to be in a state of chronic illness. Again it poisons everything.

Even if you keep the body systems more open, the potent bacteria in the jaw and rest of the body is an ongoing fight, which then prevents the body from dealing with other problems, as it maybe doing with mine (virus). It affects the immune system in a serious way, so much so that one guy wound up in a wheelchair because of it. He was lucky that cavitation surgery cured him. He had tried plenty of cleanses too. I hear that often in this particular case, they can be close to a waste of time and money.

I think that gangrene rot is not quite the same as other toxins that can be detoxed out of you. But I still believe that it's wise to limit the overall toxic load as much as possible and keep pathogen/bacteria levels down as much as one can and possibly work on the area that you spoke off as well. All may at least aid the system to cope somewhat easier, but obviously it is not going to cure anybody. Surgical intervention is sadly the only real way to deal with it.

anyway, sorry I'm off track here! Mercury is another story. The body will detox this stuff, it's just slow and requires the person to take stuff to encourage and speed this up, especially for those of us whose body's tend to retain it rather than excrete it. (like me).

Heels was excellent (homeopathic detox kit). I did that many times. Stimulated everything to release metals. But it could be quite difficult and I had to tolerate the tremendous detox symptoms and lower dose many times and stop taking it and take breaks. I think it stimulated the liver, the kidneys, the lymph etc to excrete toxins and metals.

I believe that was also part of my healing from mercury, as well at Cutler's protocol.

Thank you for your post, James. I am FINALLY getting ready to go through this, myself. I have many, many fillings. I believe I still have 16 placements, as of right now. There were 17, but I had a tooth pulled last year (wish I hadn't had to), but there was too much pain. I have been getting sicker these past 2 years, to where I'm almost at a point of no return. I feel that my liver has reached it's limit of overload, and I can't wait any longer.

I have an appt March 3 (day before my birthday), and it was actually 16 years ago RIGHT NOW, that all these fillings were being put in. If there are any cancellations, they are going to try to get me in sooner. I am anxious to get started, and scared to death, too. The first appt will be xrays, and seeing how bad things really are (BAD). I have a tooth crumbling in the back, and a root canal one that never got crowned (last dentist said it was better I never did), because I have mercury in my jawbone and bloodstream. I had a huge filling that was drilled through for a root canal, which rammed the metal right into my jaw.

Pray for me, if you would, and keep us updated on your well being. I am terrified of what will happen when I get mine out (how much and if I will get sicker as my body starts to dump), and even more terrified that they are still in my mouth right now.

mommy24, you are already past the hard part. The excruciating decision to have your amalgams removed. The hard part is the waiting.

My hope for you is that one day soon they call you early in the morning and tell you they have an appointment mid morning. Without even thinking about it you are in your car and in the chair. Next thing you know it you are back home and it everything went smooth.

But if your March 3 appt. stands I think you will find that it isn't really that big a deal. I didn't feel any pain at all, it was just annoying to keep my mouth open that long without being able to say anything.

Bex, how 'bout eating a diet higher in sulfur foods to chelate? Not going crazy with it but kale, broccoli, eggs, etc. I understand taking in too much sulfur can deplete the body of copper which can cause anyorisms (sp?) so have to be careful there I guess.

Chlorella sounds very safe. I'll have to do my research and take it from there.

Btw, I've still that that gold cap that something has to be done with. Problem is that there's a root canal under there. Hate to spend too much time and cash putting in a porcelain cap then deciding 6 months or a year from now to have my root canals pulled.

But I really hate having that additional metal in my mouth. The dentist said he thinks it probably has tin, nickel and copper in it along with the gold which is bad 'cause that is still more than 1 metal which as you know creates the "battery" effect.

Have you had panoramic X-Rays lately? High likelihood that they show areas of infection. Mine was clean so that is a reason in itself to not take out my root canals at this time.

Hi James, I already do eat a diet high in sulfur. Eggs, broccoli, onions, etc. Nearly daily. I don't think my issue is really with mercury because I get no reactions to it like I once did with mercury. However, in saying that? It depends where the mercury is too. It may not be in accessible areas where this stuff can stir it up.

ALA would be better to try for me I feel if anything at all. DMSA last time didn't seem to do much, but used to be wonderful in chelating me of mercury, particularly when mercury was already trying to come out or had been stirred up by something else.

Gold is very bad when you have amalgams in the same mouth because of the galvanic (battery) effects. But the one you have has a mix of metals, so yeah that'll be wise to get that out at some point too. If you're going to get it done? Get the root canal pulled as well. Not worth leaving that source of toxicity in there..

Well I have had panormamic xray and as usual it looks normal. Most of them do. Turns out it wasn't after I had a bone scan of the oral area and cavitations were more clearly seen. However, the problem area that one doctor refers to didn't seem to show any real issues on either xray or bone scan. But he is certain that's where the gangrene is.

So it's very difficult for me. I can see now on my panoramic xray that I have cavitations in every area of my mouth. I've learned how to see them. But they are very hard to spot. Dentists usually miss them and this is most sad because the person can be suffering from severe toxciity from them and not get help for it for that reason.

cavitations and root canals are not something you want in your mouth either way. At least you have removed one source of toxins there (amalgam) and you should be pretty happy and proud of that.

It's less toxins your body has to deal with. But at some point I would get the root canals removed too (personally). I have heard it said that difficult to treat and diagnose illnesses that don't seem to respond to treatments, so often have their root cause in the mouth! Because the body is pretty strong and can bounce back rather well. However if it has an ongoing 24/7 source of toxins going into it, usually it sickens into a chronic condition because it does not get much of a break.

Some people have better constitutions for dealing with these things than others. I know people with amalgams and root canals, but I have to tell you, most of them aren't what I would call in great health either. They're more normal than I am, but the ones in better health than I know are my relatives with false teeth!!! Go figure. Coincidence? I don't know.

Everything is true that you say Bex but you know what? Everything in your jaw area could be perfect with absolutely no infections, gangrene, cavitations, etc. but if your ileocecal valve is locked open you will be sick anyway. Like I detailed in the other thread my chiropractor said he finds around 60% of all patients he sees have the hiatal hernia/ileocecal valve syndrome.

With the high sulfur diet you are eating you are also eating the "Ileocecal Valve Irritation Diet". ICV syndrome is seriously aggraved by onions, garlic, eggs and high sulfur foods. An ICV locked open is called the "Great Mimicker" because people develop illnesses and they are fooled into thinking it is something else and miss the underlying cause.

There. Thats my ICV lecture of the day.

Thank you, James. Yes, making that appt is the big hurdle. Hopefully, I can keep my anxiety under control and do ok. I also have TMJ, and have had terrible jaw pain and headaches for a few days, so hopefully they do call soon.
It just helps so much when you can come on here and talk to people. It is so hard trying to talk to people in my everyday life that just don't understand, or get tired of talking about it/hearing about it.

I had a panoramic x-ray last year. That is where they saw the metal that got drilled into my jawbone. I had been in tooth pain (and this was back in 2001) and the dentist I went to, drilled right through a mostly metal tooth to do a root canal, and then I went through a divorce and lost my insurance, so I never had the crown done. I wish I had known then about the mercury, but I had no idea.

Hi James, yeah I realise I may have that, but I can tell you I wasn't like this before the wisdom tooth removal, not to this extent, though I had the virus and still do, which lowered my immunity big time which may be the big problem here rather than anything else.

it's becoming pretty difficult. I tweak my diet until I can handle what I'm eating and I don't get to eat much as it is and to find more foods might be an issue is not exactly lighting up my day. Eggs are part of me surviving on this too. I cannot eat grains, fruit, high carb vegetables, milk etc etc. If I do eat anything else like this? I will be literally crippled with gut problems, even more than I am now. I did one cheat with a bit of fruit and that was it.

But I'll say this, I had this problem badly before I was eating the foods I"m eating now. In fact, I wasn't even eating sulfur foods if I can recall. But the foods i ate them, I can't eat now anyway.

Anyway, I'll check out your other thread where you talk about it and find out a bit more, but I may simply not be able to do what is asked if it becomes over the top for me. I've already proved the diet I am on is about all my body can handle.

Bex, if the diet you are on is working for you then stay with it. By simply using self massage which takes about 1 minute 3 times a day and some pressure point work that takes another minute 3 times a day you can start to heal your ileocecal valve. This will "seal up" your gut and prevent your body from passing toxins back into your bloodstream. Instead you will pass them through normal bowel movements.

By simply working my ileocecal valve I went from having very little energy, not sleeping well and few BMs to lots of energy, sleep like a log and normal BMs. I've been eating a crappy diet and feeding my candida yet I STILL have a lot of enrgy and am sleeping well unlike before. The ICV is that important. Best of all it won't cost you a bunch of money and you take care of the problem yourself with self treatment.

Here's another great tip: Before bed take a wet hand towel and put it in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Lay down and place it over your lower right abdomen (the ileocecal valve is 2" to the left of the right hip). Keep the towel on for 15-20 minutes. Do this right before bed every day for a week and see how you feel. This relaxes the ICV and allows it to close. Try it, nothing to lose but a lot to gain! Takes about 30 days of this program and you will feel like a new person altho you may notice significant improvement in the way you feel in a few days or less!

Hi James, thanks I think I'll do that. It's a relief to know that if there is a problem there, I can still help it by other means, other than taking even more foods away from my diet.

Already I'm struggling to keep weight on because of my sick / poisoned system.

Funny thing is, even with the virus I could still heal/detox. After that extraction everything changed. I would warn anybody about tooth extractions and making sure they get them done properly to avoid a similar situation. It's most sad that dentists out there actually wind up sometimes causing illness in people over routine dental work. That should NEVER happen.

They don't associate the mouth with the body so much, only biologic dentists do this and know how important it is. I can still hear that dentist saying to me "you should get these wisdom teeth removed to avoid future problems".....well in removing them? that was the onset of untold suffering for me and my life changed dramatically.

In hindsight I'd have left them alone. Sadly the wisdom teeth were perfect. When they were removed the dentist and oral surgeon remarked on how perfect they were (that was from years of a good diet). They were not pushing my other teeth, they were compeltely straight. The ONLY issue was they were slightly impacted (not completely pushed through the entire gum). BIG DEAL. I cleaned my teeth night and morning and I had no issues with that at all and probably would have been fine for life.

Sorry I'm venting again.

But I will definitely do what you've suggested. Thanks a bunch for passing this info on. Let's hope it'll help me.

Hello mommy24. I had 25 mercury amalgams. Over the course of around a year I have had 22 replaced, and hopefully the last 3 will be replaced within a month. My advice to you is to take antifungals both before and throughout the process of getting your amalgams replaced. I developed some nasty infections of the gums during the process(not even around the teeth that were being worked on) My dentist at times did say that he saw irritation, but didn't tell me how to treat it or what was causing it. Taking grapefruit seed extract and olive leaf extract is what finally helped me. The grapefruit seed extract was both swalllowed and used to rinse my moth a few times a day. I used the Vitamin Shoppe Brand Grapefruit Seed Extract(made by Citricidal, also sold under their brand name). I put 10 drops in a full cup of water and drank this 3 or more times a day. I also rinsed my mouth with this a few times a day. Rinsing your mouth with warm salt water(half a spoon or a spoon of salt in warm water)also helps.

Thank you SO much, JK98 for those tips. I will definitely go find some of those, and give it a try. I wouldn't doubt it would happen to me, too, because I had terrible infections and sores when they put all of these in (they told me I had an allergic reaction and got an infection), and had mysterious sores/swelling appear in my mouth during some years after. A couple of those nearly life-threatening they were so bad. One where my tongue was swollen so bad, and the inside of my mouth so sore. The Dr said she had to give me the strongest anti-biotics on the market to get rid of it, and didn't even know for sure what it was. I have always had such a sensitive mouth, and never knew why til I found out about the mercury.

Wow mom you are going to feel so incredibly good when you have your amalgams removed if they have caused so incredible infection and other problems.

You may also want to check into probioics also known as "acidophulus" since you took a lot of antibiotics and have had infection problems. Probiotics also know as acidophulus is the "good bacteria" which balances out the flora in your intestines against the "bad bacteria" which causes infections and loads of other problems. When they give us antiobiotics is kills ALL the bacteria and only the bad grows back. So unless we take the probiotics it messes up our bodies. This is one of the underlying causes for many of the health problems today.

Bex, the experience you have had with your wisdom teeth is the reason for my hesitancy to have my root canals removed. Now I fully understand the potential for some nasty stuff to be contained inside the root canals. But I also fully understand a lot of potential problems caused by having them removed also. Your wisdom teeth experience as Exhibit A.

A person could go in to have their root canals removed to get rid of a little bacteria and they could put you in a wheelchair or make a vegetable out of you. Never been a big fan of people punching holes in my head.

The mercury amalgams I could fully justify as an obvious problem with their constant exposure in the mouth through chewing, brushing, etc. Same thing with the gold/nicke/copper cap I've got. Plus they are easy to remove with reasonable expense and marginal chance for the dentist to mess me up. Surgeries like root canals tho I need a helluva lot of evidence that they are causing me a direct problem before make that quantum leap.

Of all the people I've known that have had corrective, invasive surgeries over the years a high percentage have come out either no better or worse.

A friend of mine, his mother went in for eye surgery. The muscles around dthe eye became weak after the surgery so it actually dropped a little bit so it was lower than the other one on her face so to make her look normal they went in and moved the good eye down so it would match up with the bad eye! These people are crazy!!!

I'd say that for every 1 person I've known that has had corrective surgery and gotten better 4 have come out no better or worse. I'd rather drive than fly commercial airlines and I'd rather self treat than trust the medical profession.

Hi James, apparently the bacteria from root canals is much the same as that contained in cavitations.....both as bad as eachother. So I really do not know what the answer is.

For me? I'd not get a root canal, unless it was one that was done by a biologic dentist who may have used the up-to-date methods that apparently are a much better way of doing them and seem to feel that they don't have the risks as the others.

Not sure what the answers are. You will know in yourself as time goes on I'm sure. You can tell if something is really wrong and if it isn't broke, then yeah don't fix it.

See how you feel with no amalgams first. I know what you mean about invasive surgeries and things, so often a person comes out wishing they'd never done it! I am not so sure though that this is quite the same as removing a big source of toxicity (root canals). But again, it's all a risk isn't it?

Yu can always talk to a biologic dentist sometime about them. Take a read of this. This dentist on this link would not do root canals, but is now doing them becuase of the apparently biologic method they now have. Again I still don't know how safe even this would be, but check it out.

I too, enjoy reading your posts so much, James.
Yes, it will be such a relief to start getting mine out. I have been a pretty resiliant person though, thus far, and am hoping for very good results.

I do have some acidophulus. I took it a few days awhile back, and then I forgot (darn memory problems). One reason is, it says it needs to be refrigerated, and it's not with my other supplements. Do you recommend this be taken while amalgams are still in, when they are being taken out (or already out) or both? I'm not sure, but kinda thinking it's an all-around good thing for people to take, despite the mercury part, because of so much overuse of antibiotic nowdays.

mommy, i think acidophulus is great for those people whose systems are tolerant. If your system doesn't like the acidophulus it will let you know fairly quickly. Start real slow with half or 1/3 the recommended dosage and see what happens. If it says to take 1 tablet/pill every day then start with 1 every other day.

If you are in the beginning stages of a candida diet the candida will fight the good bacteria but as the candida weakens the good bacteria will gain a foothold. Play it by ear but the bottom line is that acidophulus (good bacteria) is extremely important to regaining one's health.
