I have read different info on how dmsa does or doesn't cross the blood brain barrier , cultler says that it doesn't remove brain mercury , and others say that it does , www.drcranton.com/mercury/mercurytesting.htmthe reason I bring this up is that if dmsa removes brain mercury also then using ala and dmsa together may speed up the mercury removal process 2 x fold they had found in mice that using dmsa alone removed brain mercury by itself , this would be very good for all of us this could explain the increased symtoms when using both together?

Hi, no it does not cross the blood brain barrier to any clinical degree. They did studies on rats to prove it does and rats have a different blood brain barrier than humans, so this is why DMSA was able to remove their brain mercury.
Human beings do not have the easy penetrable blood brain barrier that rats do! So the studies were really not very helpful.
ALA however can and is the way to go for people who are finding improvements with DMSA have reached a point where it's not going any further. USually ALA is the ticket when that happens.
I know someone who detoxed with DMSA, improved but had stubborn symptoms that just would not leave her. She detoxed with ALA and got back to normal.
So I believe Andy. Though taking DMSA and ALA together is probably even more effective than ALA alone, simply because there is the extra chelator in there for a bit more stability and possibly increased detox too. ALA can be used alone though. Just so long as it's 3 months past last amalgam removal and not before.

i have been reading more and more that dmsa by itself can remove mercury from the brain ,it is not as effective as ala ,but it does remove brain mercury according to some of the research that has been done on both mice and humans , dmsa is 3 times more effective than dmps in removing organ mercury except for the kidneys, dmps removes kidney mercury better but does not remove brain mercury , also dmsa is not as harsh on the body as dmps

Well, apparently it doesn't remove brain mercury to any clinical degree. Perhaps to a certain extent it can. But like you said, not as effective as ALA. This would also explain why those who fail to get any further with DMSA, start making further improvements with ALA.
One lady I know of chelated and did well with DMSA, but could not get rid of certain stubborn symptoms (possibly brain related). She chelated with ALA and was able to get rid of them.
So yeah, I certain feel DMSA is more effective than people may realise (stronger), but more maybe required for those with significant brain/organ mercury that the DMSA may not be able to penetrate/chelate enough.
Andy doens't believe that iodine chelates mercury, nor selenium. However, my own experience and symptoms from both tell me it certainly does SOMETHING with metals and seem to cause a detox indirectly from displacing metals/competing for binding sites. Because mercury will sit where these elements should be. Replacing them, then displaces the metals. So you can get some redistribution symptoms.
I am of the believe that if you replace the elements/minerals/antioxidants that mercury interfers with, depletes or blocks the action of, then it is expected that a certain amount of that mercury may come out in the process. If the body gets what it needs, then it does a much better job of eliminating toxins and no doubt some metals too.

Mikey, i don't think all things DR. Cranton says are true.
1. Mice have a different blood brain barrier than humans.
2. They say DMSA is three times more effective in removing brain mercury than DMPS. DMPS does not remove brain mercury so that is a meaningless statement.
3. They say DMSA does not move mercury in the brain. It often does if large doses are taken. That is why some people get balance and coordination problems if they take large doses every other day.
Can you please cite human research where DMSA removed brain mercury?

here are a couple that i have come across www.tldp.com/issue/175-6/DM.htmlwww.dmsa-chelation.info/I dont know what or who to believe any more , all I know is that I can not make too many more mistakes to remove the rest of the mecury in my body , what I know for sure is how I feel with different chelators , I am just another innocent victim of this whole amalgam mercury mess ,and just trying to get through this without doing more damage to my body
