Out of curiousity, how do your nails look? Have you noticed any changes you think are mercury related? Did anyone's nails get better after chelation?

My nails developed ridges running parallel with the fingers in the last year or two before I got amalgams out. I am pretty sure this has something to do with malabsorption of minerals in the gut. Some of the research articles say these ridges are normal, but I don't think so in this case. Anyone got any theories?

They are called Mee's lines.

Page 62 of "Amalgam illness"

"All heavy metals cause Mees' lines on the nails. these usually
begin a few months after significant exposeure starts and may be useful in identifying the source of exposure - dental amalgams or some unregcognised source - if you remember when they started."

I did Google "Mees lines" and the pictures look like the ridges on my nails, so i assume i have them.

Hey Jinx - where have you been? Good to hear from you. I know what you mean about the way the ridges run. See below.

SS: Yeah, thanks for reminding me - I looked it up too, and it refers to a footnote. The footnote says about Mees' lines that they are "White lines that run across them or, along them, or white spots."

So I guess they could be Mees' lines, but I kind of thought like Jinx that they are not. However, if you have a picture, maybe they are. Anyways, my on-line searching seems to say that these ridges running along the nail can be just normal aging. But mine did appear when I was getting sicker so who knows? I was wondering how many people on here have these lines? Kind of an indicator of mercury poisoning? Would want to know if anyone in their 20s has them, which would eliminate the aging theory.

Thanks for the replies....

not sure what you mean but I am in my 20s and had little white spots and horizontal lines since childhood. (i did have amalgams for most of my life)

I believe these are mee's lines. I was told they were a sign of zinc deficiency but taking zinc did not help me.

Now writing this i realise that most of my white spots are gone. This has happened in the past but not very often. I think some will come back but i feel mercury removal has helped.

When i was 6-9 months past removal and my body was dropping mercury in my bloodstream and i went through hell, i had more mee's lines than ever.

I wonder if my mee's line will disappear permanently when im detoxed.

Hope this helps

http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?i...um%3D100%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3DGGLJ,GGLJ:2006-49,GGLJ:en-GB%26sa%3DN

and if u click on these pic’s they look like them too

http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?i...um%3D100%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3DGGLJ,GGLJ:2006-49,GGLJ:en-GB%26sa%3DN

I used to have white marks on my nails, but I thought that was from my drug use? All gone now.

Hi All
I have those same ridges on my nails and also I only have the little moons on my thumbs and 2 fingers. I seen a movie on heavy metal poisoning and the natural doc on there said the mee's lines and not having the moons on the nails was all because heavy metals. He metioned mercury amalgams specifically.

mees too, horizontal, not vertical. Much better after lots of chelation though. Actually had a tiny brown hole in one thumbnail that showed up immediately after the big mercury poisoning epsiode. Gone now though. Just a couple little dents left. Still gets real dry around the thumbnails now and then, I think it is related.

As an experiment, for just one day, try and look at other peoples finger nails. I did it last week on holiday. My parents had them. My in-laws had them. General people around and about had them. I noticed older people had them a lot more than younger.
Really made me think…....

People watching is very interesting. Try and count the number of really health people you pass in the street. It is an alarmingly small percentage.

I have those lines too,no moons on any of the nails. I sometimes get 1 or maybe 2 white marks they never seem to stay for long, but none there at the minute.

Hi Sunshine,
you said about people watching,I do this and there would appear to be alot of zombie looking people walking around on autopilot.
I generally look healthy, people are very suprised to learn that I'm sick. This amalgam illness is so deceiving,I usually look ok but feel like I'm dying at times.
Andrew Cutler mentions this in his book too.

From what I read, a lot of older people will get these ridges naturally, but I think those of us with heavy mercury loads will get them way before we might have without such a load. Mercury seems to cause maldistribution or malabsorption of different elements.

I looked back over a hair test result, and for me manganese was low. One of the symptoms of this concerns "slow growth of fingernails and hair" so I think something is connected there.

That is a great idea to observe fingernails on various people you meet! See if people who have a lot of silver fillings and other dental work show Mees' Lines or other abnormalities. If anyone does this, please report back in and let us know.

One point, I think, is that some people who have lots will not show poor fingernails unless they have been in a long time, and are poor excretors - mine were fine until a year or two ago, and some people who are better excretors of mercury (unlike us APOE-E4s - I am guessing, I have not been tested) may not show signs.

I have ridges (verticle) on my nails and little to no half moons. OFten they look bluish because of bad circulation and toxicity.

Hey bg123:

I wish I was still in my 20s! Maybe you are a case in point. My thought is you are showing something uncommon, I think, among your age group, UNLESS you have been overloaded with a toxin like mercury. And you said it was worse 6-9 months out? Who knows? Could be....

I think they can disappear if you get the mercury out. I heard of one person who buffed them out, but that seems ridiculous, no? Maybe a heavy duty grinder will work.

Hi Bex!

I think you are like most of us with your nails. Yes, the small moon thing - you know what is funny, is that when I started Armour thyroid, my half moons gained strength and vitality. So there is something there. I cut this way back over time, and am now going without it, but it affected something.

Is there something you can do about circulation? Like light exercise? Or just imagine more blood flowing into your fingers. Now that sounds dumb, but they have done experiments where people can control all kinds of things like that with mental imagery, biofeedback, etc..

I took the tube today to the dentist. From Chancery Lane to Oxford Circus. That’s just 3 or 4 stops.
I saw 13 different hands. 6 had mees lines, 7 did not.

Good evening Tumbleweed mate

My 3 or 4 stops on the tube is hardly a conclusive experiment! But what is the average number of amalgam fillings in the average western mouth? Isn’t it 5 or something like that? Or maybe it’s 3. I can’t remember, but whatever…that’s a lot of mercury in a lot of people.

Hey SS:

I know I have heard facts and figures on this before, but mercury has made my memory short. If my head was not attached to my shoulders, I would have left it somewhere long ago. Seriously. I still have great memory for most things, but short term stuff - getting better, not there yet.

Anyway, I am not sure on rest of world, but I think I read that 220 million Americans have silver fillings. Most everybody, but today, with more use of composites, some of the very young will escape it entirely. They will probably fight something else. But that's just in America and more advanced countries like yours. I hope big business doesn't push silver fillings (like I hear they are trying to do with vaccines) in third world countries, but???

Yup, my short term memory is playing silly buggers too. Mercury.

Don’t u worry, I’m sure big business will find some poor ignorant sods to sell this crap to. But they don’t need to rush off elsewhere just yet because we still have a country full of poor ignorant sods. And that will not change any time soon.

I do think that people like us, on forums like this, are doing good good things, spreading the word. Eventually a tipping point will be reached, but I fear that is still a long way off. If it wasn’t for the internet i would not be right here, right now, I’d be dead.. It is only because I educated myself from the internet that I’m still here. Doctors don’t know their arse from their elbow, yeah, i always lose it when i think about doctor and all the bad and completly wrong advise i have been given over the years.
i could write a book with all the dumb advise from doctors i have had.

Hey Guys
I checked my daughters nails and my sisters, both have mercury fillings and they have the lines also and my daughter has no moons and my sis very little. My sis will start removal after the first of the year but my daughter does not believe yet and so will probably be one of the sad sick people wondering what is wrong with her. So sad and my dentist has already seen her and told her she would be in trouble one day. She is only 22 and is already having tingling in her hands and feet, headaches, female problems and lost a baby prematurely. I tell her all the time but well you know how that goes when you tell someone about the fillings they just get that glazed over look like you've lost it. Well did not mean to get off track but well you know how the thought process goes with this thing.LOL
So anyways I will take a look at some more hands and see what I discover.

Yeah, I know what you mean - there are still lots of people right here that look at me like I have 4 heads when I try to tell them about mercury.

And Doctors - pretty frustrating standing there telling them something is wrong, and you even have physical signs, and they don't quite get it. But I think with a good questionaire, and some signs like this nail thing, and body temp, etc. we could come up with something better - maybe Cutler's diagnostics should be worked into doctor's offices everywhere, no? But I want to say my current doctor is pretty enlightened - she is far to the right on a bell shaped curve - that is the kind of person we all need to find to help, and read constantly ourselves.

Hey Rachel:

Kind of tired so signing off now so signing off. Just keep feeding your daughter info - articles, papers, whatever until it gets through. She is only 22, so she has a good chance of never getting bad if she takes care of it early.

If I can deal with a person long enough I can absolutely convince them with the right information at hand - it is undeniable. Although I went through many months of doubting it myself, so I give everyone slack.

Hi TW, yeah I find that if I avoid old world grass grains - wheat, oats, rye, barley, millet, rice, apples and pears, I seem to get some warmth flowing through my hands again. So there must be something to this.

But the other day I ate some rice and wham, I went cold and got the blue nails. Right now they are very warm. But I have to watch my diet big time.

I have exercised, but have gotten very sick from it. The virus I have has given me post viral fatigue and when I push myself to do what I "think" is good, it proves deterimental to me. I started to do some bushwalks with my father and have ended up with chest constriction and a massive stirring up of toxins/metals and am now a mess. Been crying and tasting metals. Ended up in emergency pharmacy because I couldn't breath properly (the other night) and was given oxygen and sent home with ventalin.

So for sure, the exercise for me has to be limited and monitored. I have not had asthma for years, and to have this suddenly occur after the bushwalks along with the chest restriction is a bit of an alarm to me. No more!

I still have this after days of rest. And it's not worth it. I think I will stick with flat walking (no hills) and some light rebounding and leave it at that.

If it was just mercury? I'd probably get the stirring of toxins, but not this (as I used to).

INteresting to read about the mees lines though and little to no moons. Other people around me have these normal nice looking nails and I used to wonder why mine were different, now I think I know!

Hi,
I also get the cold hands &feet, feel the cold &find it hard, sometimes to warm up.

I find that a little cayenne pepper &or ginger help to quickly heat me up.
Alittle cayenne pepper powder in some camomile tea is great or some ginger in a soup/tea.really nice.

Bex - the blue nails may indicate low levels of oxygen in the blood - goji juice might be good. Maybe you could find other good things to try. But I wonder why rice would affect that. Any thoughts on that?

Hi TW, I've tried goji juice and I do think it's good but it's too expensive too. I dont know if it did that much for me either.

Gluten in grains can affect the gut and lower vitamin K in the body and cause coldness and hence the blue nails. It can block a lot of the intake of nutrients, which would explain this too I think. Candida too! Both can cause the other.

But some have to go a step further and actually eliminate not just wheat, rye and barley because of gluten, but all the other old world grass grains too to heal properly. I think there is definitely something to this because after weeks of adhereing to it, I found my circulation seemed better and I think it helps other symptoms too.

So eating rice the other day, seemed to almost immediately leave me with cold hands, which kind of told me I still need to stay off it. Some people who improve after eliminating all these things for months, can sometimes add the non gluten old world grass grains back in on and rotate them. But some people have a fixed old world grass grain allergy and simply need to stay off them.

I seem to be able to get away with eating puffed corn though.

I have vertical lines on my nails. I have VERY profound ridges running vertically that I didn't have when I was growing up. I have only realized how weird they are, over the last couple of years. I run my fingers over my nails, and I can FEEL the ridges. My nails break easily, and it makes me sad. I can never have pretty nails because of this. I would like to tell you about the "moon" thing, I know that I have some, but it seems like it's been fading, but I have my nails painted right now, because I went to a funeral today, and I don't want some of my family members, seeing these ugly nails of mine. My ridges started when I was in my mid to late 20's I think. Nothing to do with old age here. I have looked at other people's nails...I learn so much from observing people, and am constantly on a quest for knowledge. Some have nice smooth, pretty nails. The people with amalgam that I suspicion are being poisoned like us, have some ridges, too.

I believe that many, many people are mercury poisoned. I never would have believed that people would be so "closed minded" as far as hearing about it, until I tried talking to people about it. Everyone is in DENIAL. I have convinced a few people, I believe, and once I get my amalgams out, and start feeling even a LITTLE better, I am going to make sure everyone LISTENS to me. They may hate me when it's all over, but they will listen to me.
