last friday afternoon I found a 3 month old kitten in the parking lot gutter ,I thought that it was dead ,the closer that I got to it ,I could see that it was barly breathing ,but still alive ,I tried to revive it and rehydrate for about 2 hours to stabilize it to get it to the vets office across town ,at the vets office they started an IV to keep him alive ,he died shortly after that ,the vet told me that he was severly dehydrated and malnuriched and was surprised that the kitten had lived this long on its own ,this hit me hard for a few days I'm much better now ,but before this illness I don't think that it would have affected me so much ,I have always been a animal lover but it seems like the sadness is a little deeper with this illness ,before the illness I used to walk around with blinders on and not to many things could affect me ,but now my compation is much deeper than ever ,I'm just not sure if this is good or bad for me ?

I think compassion is a good thing. I always thought I had real compassion for all people - especially sick people before I myself got sick. Now I realize, I did not have a clue why those people came across the way they did. It makes you really feel for what some people have to live through in this world.
I believe our function in this world is to heal. To heal is to make happy or whole. By healing others, you make yourself well.

I think it's a good thing. You've been in touch with suffering firsthand in your own illness, perhaps it has removed a little of the shell we all get from being carefree and healthy...
That is a really compassionate thing you did, i'm sorry the kitten did not survive <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> But when I hear stories like this, kind of restores my faith in human beings.
