I'm a little confused now... I ordered Andy Cutlers book and Hal Huggins detoxification booklet. Cutler says that Cilantro and Chlorella may be dangerous for health, for his opinion only alpha lipoin acid works. Anyway Chlorella and Cilantro are highly recomended all over the web. What should I believe? Should I still take Chlorella and Cilantro or is it really dangerous?

I'm now 6 months post amalgam removal and anxious to get the toxins out of my system. So I'm very interested in effective and safe detoxprogram. I certainly don't want to redistribute the mercury all over my body. Here in Finland we don't have EDTA, DMSA or DMPS so only oral supplements are possible. Sauna I have, and have been using it quite lot.
What are you all using? Any advise?

Mercury detox is a little complicated but here are a few basics that I hope will help...

Some supplements expel mercury from organs (ie. the brain, keyneys, etc). Other supplements bind to mercury, hold onto it tight and safely carry it out through your digestive system. You need to use a balance of both types. If you don't, mercury will redistribute and you can get sick.

Cilantro expels mercury from certain organs into the blood. Once "mobilized", you need to make sure a binding agent is available to safely carry it out. Algin, one of my favorite supplements, binds and carries the mercury out. Obviously, if you use cilantro, use algin at the same time or you may get sick.

Sulphur is another mercury binding agent, BUT it also has the mobilizing action. MSM, nearly all proteins, eggs and some other foods contain sulphur. Chlorella also has BOTH actions. So, both sulpur AND chlorella can make you sick.

I have no doubt you're anxious to detox, but I highly recommend doing it slowly and carefully. Mobilize mercury only as much as you can comfortably handle.

If you've had amalgam fillings, you've had mercury exposure for years, perhaps decades. Much of this mercury remains in your body so you certainly cannot get it all out at once or even too quickly.

Experiment with supplements, adding new ones one-at-a-time to see what makes you sick and what doesn't. I am a strong advocate for slow and natural detox because mercury is just as toxic going in as it is coming out.

Hopefully this helps. Below are a few links you may find helpful:

Russ, thank you for your answer. I have one more question: what do you think about green-lipped mussel and shark cartilage (freezed and dryed)? I have be using them for my joint pains and headaches and they seems to help quit a lot. But what about safety - are those "seasupplements" free of merucy? Do you think I should contact the manufacturer? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I am not familiar enough with those supplements to give you an intelligent answer. I suppose there is a chance that they contain mercury and if I were you, I'd contact the manufacturer and see what they have to say.

I'll e-mail your question to my business partner who performs much supplement research (mostly herbal) and I'll see if she can share more.

Best of luck.

I had five fillings to be removed. Two were removed last month and two were removed last Friday. My Mercury free dentist just about insisted that I take Chlorella so I started taking it after the first removal. But my appetite started to go and on the second removal of fillings I was violently sick on the same night. I rang the dentist and he said he doubted that it was the chorella but could be just a reaction to the dental treatment. Do you think this could have been because of the Chlorella?. My stomch still does not feel right at the mo. I am also taking 100 mcg of selenium per day.

According to Dr. Cutler, some people have bad reactions to chlorella. In fact, it's not uncommon at all.

Most recommend that you don't take it until all fillings are out, and even then in moderation. Cutler seems to recommend staying away from it altogether. I say, make the most logical and the most safe decision.

My dentist made what I consider a wise suggestion. He wanted me to take a bunch of it 24 hours before my amalgam removal to help chelate immediately after. Of course, I had all mine removed in a single session.

You may want to try stopping it but the call is yours. I hate to see this be a difficult experience for you when it should bring a great feeling of relief. Detox slowly and gently.

I got very sick on ALA even 3 years+ after removal. It chelates the brain (if I remember right) so be careful and always take Algin when detoxing.

Cilantro will also cause blood mercury to skyrocket. It's great for detoxing but can cause a drastic rise in symptoms. Again, take it slow and take algin with it.

Maybe my digestive system was'nt up to the task of chlorella eliminating mercury.

For a few years now I have had problems with feeling bloated especially after meals with lots of gas e.t.c
That's where Algin must help as a laxitive.

So I presume Chlorella picks up the mercury for excretion and Algin helps get it out.

But because My digestive system is not working right the chlorella + mercury stuck inside me, thus causing me to vomit.

Do you think this could be right.

In any case I have stopped taken the chlorella for the time being, but the next time I try it i will try Algin with it too.

I believe you're right.

Algin should help, just remember, some people have problems with chlorella for other reasons and there are plenty of other chelators you can use:

Cilantro
Protein
ALA

You should find a practioner who does the Electrodermal Screen that can verify if a particular cilantro or chlorella is good for you. If some chlorella contains some mercury, it can be bad for you. I was trying to follow Dr Huggins protocol for detox...25mg DMSA 3x a week...but nothing else was recommended. I was hitting and missing with good chlorella and other supplements..but I am convinced you need to follow a good practioner who has had good results with detoxification of mercury. I found one at livinglonger.com who use the avatar electrodermal screen test for heavy metals. They have a product called chelex that contains EDTA, chlorella, cilantro, alpha lipoic acid and other herbs. I have felt better with this detox plan. You should find a practioner in your country that has been recommended to you.

I got mercury poisoning from dental amalgams culminating in a significant loss of hair or alopecia arreata, eczema, and angular cheilitis (tears in the corners of my mouth) -- annoying symptoms, but relatively mild. I did about 7 DMPS treatments and simultaneously took DMSA after testing for 14x Mercury and 6x lead max levels. Did not like it due to the de-mineralization. However, this got rid of all my symptoms.

Afterward, I continued to detox, but did it slowly with natural methods. My favorite methods became cilantro/chlorella, TCM Herbal mixes and calcium bentonite clay. I used all frequently for past 6 months.

More recently, I used a footbath detox about a dozen times. I believe it mobilized a lot of mercury stored in my muscles. Initially i felt great, but started noticing the first angular chelitis since first detoxing.

I have used Chlorella sporadically, but very often for last 2 years and never had an issue. However, since using the footbath, the chlorella now makes me violently ill for about an hour.

I have been taking hot baths in edible pascalite clay. Two of them cured my chelitis and are making me feel better. Despite being very fit already, I also noticed that I was oddly stronger after the baths.

Question 1 -- Are the foot baths dangerous because they mobilize so much more than they really remove?

Question 2 -- Did the chlorella reaction happen because i mobilized so much mercury and am more sensitive now? Then is should go away eventually and I can resume taking it?

Question 3 -- the clay bathes seem so much stronger as a detox than I expected? No side effects? Does anyone know whether this is normally the case? I tend to throw about a liter or two of hydrated pascalite into the bath or onto my skin and get into the bath.

(A Liter of wet clay is about 3/8th of a cup of dry clay since it expand so much) I also use a TDP FAR Infrared Lamp when i sleep or to make the clay stronger.

My head is spinning lol, what not to use, what to use, what dosage and how will your body react to some things, good or bad? Will it redistribute and hurt you worse? Will it chelate and take it out of your body? Too many questions and not enough answers, it's very tricky when it comes to this stuff. No answers really, I guess just go with how your body feels.

@Sean. Since the earlier posts (some of them as old as a decade), a lot new information came out. Nothing good about cilantro and chlorella. But back then we didn't know any better.

While detoxing with herbs still sounds appealing, the problem is that we still don't know what makes those herbs stir up mercury, whether it also chelates other toxic metals (arsenic/lead present in amalgam fillings; cadmium from cigarette smoke) and how to control the amount you are taking of this unknown substance. Since this mystical chemical compound is not known by name (let alone by its composition) there is no way to standardize intake. So while they do seem to chelate, you are playing roulette. The herbs can kill you through the redistribution effects of toxic metals, which you cannot really control for reasons mentioned above.

This is a very important reason why the Cutler protocol is the safest way to chelate. It gives you control. On top of that, no herb can beat lipoic acid. R-Lipoic acid is the stuff your own body makes in order to chelate (just not in big enough amounts because we are so full of those poisons, that's why you need to take it in a pill and mimic continuous production by taking it every 3hrs around the clock). It is the nature's perfect chelator.

I decided not to play roulette with my life and I went with the Cutler protocol. This decision has saved my life.

The Cutler protocol is the safest one, and by minimizing destruction it is also the fastest. With the other protocols, you generally spend most of the time being horribly sick. With Cutler, you just get well, round after round.

I have even heard negative stories about the Cutler protocol on here or Curezone, some started and never finish it or get some side effects! I just want to stay away from it all lol.

I used Chlorella for years on end, never got a bad side effect from it at all, but did it redistribute all those years? Who knows, but it didn't do a thing bad to me but make me feel better. I can't use alot now though, as if I got metals in me somehow and got worse but to this day after quitting it for a few years I react badly after a gram of it and get kidney pain and feel really weird (Probably stirring up a new metal).

Any reasons since you read so much why I used to be able to take 9 grams but nowadays feel bad off one? It's a shame but maybe a blessing in diguise (I handle Spirulina really well btw.). I never realizied why Selenium (From Broccoli form) really made me feel nuts too, kind of manic type feeling I get when I take those two now? I feel literally insane for a day or so and believe it's stirring up of metals.

I for now will just focuse on making kidneys and liver stronger and elimination from the bowels, I use Modifilan as well with Algin in it and that makes symptoms alot less so far (It's not a chelator either so I don't get bad side effects). To prevent redistribution you should always take an Algin or Modifilan, which is key to chelation IMO.
