I was wondering if there is any way to cure a caffeine from coffee addiction. I have tried different times to get off coffee, and I have to go back to it since I get terrible headaches without it. I went a few weeks without and my body never normalized and the hour after I took my first cup my headache started going away. I have been plagued by headaches since an early teen and found relief with tea and then coffee. Is there an easy way to get off coffee??? I have suspected that for me COFFEE is one of my enemies and I have read that some people are negatively affected by it.

I actually managed to stop drinking coffee for around a month, but then went back to it. The way to get rid of the caffeine comfortably is to gradually make it weaker and weaker., then reduce the number of cups per day.For a while I was drinking cups of coffee that were extra light, with around half the cup being skim milk.I used to drink over 5 cups of coffee a day, but now only drink two cups in the morning, and no coffee later in the day.

I 'm not sure how you feel about green tea , it has 1/4 the caffeine of coffee and is much better for you , it's a good way to wean yourself off coffee . and you can drink as much as you like all day without any problems

I decided last week to get off of caffeine which I had been consuming in coffee and chocolate. After being on an upswing I felt like I was deteriorating and I realized that I was eating a lot of chocolate and coffee.

I haven't had coffee since last Friday and it hurts but that tells me that it's something that I shouldn't be consuming, at least not on a daily basis. I had one small piece of dark chocolate yesterday.

This article (http://caffeineweb.com/?p=15) shows some of the problems that can be caused by caffeine.

Thanks for the posts!! I am in the service-repair business, and am constantly around people who drink coffee and very generously offer coffee to me. I try to resist most times but I really like coffee. About green tea. I really like green tea also but find it hard to brew up some while on the road alot. Thanks also for the link to the caffeine site, interesting. A few years ago a M.D. that had a T.V. show mentioned that Coffee was a major problem for some people causing similar problems as mercury poisoning. (probably as Russ said awhile back in a post about caffeine helping mercury into the brain and I think converting it to methylated.) The doctors good suggestion was to get off coffee and see how you feel after a couple of weeks.

I love a cup of fresh ground coffee. But I'm not addicted to it by any stretch... but last week or the week before I was drinking a cup or two in the morning for 4-5 days in a row and wow did I pay for it. Massive headache and brain fog. I think the coffee contributed anyway. seems gone now though, but it took several days to really clear up.

Green tea is ok in moderation with mercury poisoning I think, but don't overdo even that.

I am going to try making (non-alcoholic) ginger beer with honey. Water does bore me after a while.

I have no idea how to get rid of a caffeine addiction. Maybe try decaf for a while. There is a little bit of caffeine in there. I also have some stuff that's called Yerba Mate that has an ok coffee/chocolatey flavor. Doesn't bother me when I drink it but kind of hard to make, you'd have to use a thermos to carry to work.

I would conclude that coffee is an addiction. I remember years ago when coffee was in short supply that people would drink chickory that was hot brewed. Don't even know if they sell it anymore. I thought I saw a post here awhile back that mentioned a type of herb that would help you get off caffeine. If this caffeine is so bad, then we should change the name from a cup of morning joe to freddie krueger.

in the early 1900 congress was on the war path to control or ban certain substances like morphin , cocaine and cannibas ,coffee was very close to becoming a controlled substance at one point ,but congess voted not to put it on the controlled substance list by a narrow margin

Caffeine is addictive and also demineralizes your body. It causes your body to eliminate calcium and magnesium and causes a number of other harmful health effects.

The amazing part is that it only takes a small amount of caffeine to do this. Basically, if you have 1/4 cup of coffee, you've already done 90% of the damage that an entire cup would do.

Caffeine does stimulate the excretion of bile which will promote bowel movements but the magnesium displacement can cause constipation, headaches, twitchy muscles, cramps and much more. Long term calcium displacement can cause easily breakable bones and an acidic body Ph. It can also increase the risk of heart attacks significantly.

That's very interesting, Russ. Although I usually didn't drink more than two cups of coffee a day I think that it was enough to do some significant damage. I haven't drank any coffee in a week and I'm starting to feel better.
