Hi, all,
My new girlfriend's dentist says she needs a root canal. He started it last week but stopped because she had discomfort.
Is there anything I can tell her to tell the dentist? Are there alternatives to root canals? Are there safe "filler" materials?
Need advice.

Hi, I dont know enough about root canals, but I do know that it is not advisable (at least healthwise) to have them if one can avoid them. In saying that, I know two biologic dentists trained in oral toxicology that are now doing root canals. The one in my country never used to go near them is just now starting to do them because he has obviously found a method that suits biologic dentistry which he feels is warranted now to perform them. This dentist is ultra careful about these things and has travelled extenisively and done a lot of study on all these things. He's one fo the best in his field. So perhaps there is a way. Here is the area of their websites that talk about root canals and what they do. http://www.shdc.com.au/?s=services&p=root-canal-treatmenthttp://www.integrativedentalmedicine.com/ocalexic.htmlMaybe these links may help you aid your girlfriend in this. Is she seeing a biologic dentist or just general? At any rate, you can always email either of these dentists in the links i've given you may want to ask them further questions on this.

hi blicero: here is some info from the DAMS news letter on root canals : you have a couple of options a safer root canal treatment through a holistic dentist oxygen zone injections to sterilize the dead tooth then they use a less toxic root canal filling material called endocal-10 this material is thought to greatly expand into detin tubules, sealing them and killing off any bacteria that is encountered the other option is safe extraction ,as for my own experience I 've only had one root canal and the dentist that did the work did not do the root canal correctly and had problems from the start and had to have it extracted 14 months later , if she does get it extracted there is always the option of a dental implant or bridge work down the road to fill the empty space of the missing tooth
