hello, everyone, this is a completely random peice of information but I thought I'd better post it.
I was at the dentist for my 6 month check up and she said that I needed a small filling. I said it had better not be a "silver" one after my feelings about mercury aka silver fillings and that I wanted a "white" /composite filling. I have a really nice dentist and although she rolls her eyes about the mercury thing was happy to give me a white filling.
Anyways, when I said to her about why on earth would I want a silver filling as it was handled as toxic waste when removed from your mouth in the dentists she said yes but all dental material is handled as toxic waste including swabs etc, and incidently did I know that people who had false nails put on i.e. acrylic nails and then were having "white" fillings were getting an allergic reaction to the white fillings. She did not tell me why this was or the order of it i.e I don't know if she meant if you have white fillings and then get false nails that this reaction can happen or vice versa, but she said that allergic reaction was happening in people. I don't wear acrylic nails but having said that I would NEVER have thought my nails would have affected my teeth - very strange. I think basically she was just saying that I am always going on about the dangers of silver/ mercury fillings but really composite fillings also come with problems too.
This may not be relevant to a lot of people but I thought I'd just post it!! lizbet

How does she explain how an entire lake can become contaminated by a tiny amount of mercury?
I'd say that as well meaning as she comes across, many dentists are on a mission to protect themselves and their colleagues from the truth about mercury. she may either be totally ignorant on it and prefers to remain that way, or she is covering up.
Mercury is THE most toxic metal known to man, second only to Plutonium. How does she justify that? The oral environment being warm and moist is probably the WORST possible place they could consider putting any mercury at all. Add chewing and hot fluids on top and it's a no brainer.
You have to wonder how the dentists manage to dumb themselves down to such a degree as to actually believe it's "safe". Or are they so exposed to mercury vapor that that commen sense no longer prevails?
Sorry for being blunt here, but I take what they say with a very large grain of salt. But she is right on the composites, that yes some people do indeed have reactions to them also because of all the chemicals. It is very hard to find a material that a person will be ok with. But mercury should never even be an option and I cannot understand why it was even considered in the first place. That stuff is lethal and accummulative.
