Hi there. I'm a newbie to your forum. A ton of good info here!

I was tested for heavy metal toxicity and came up with mercury, lead, nickel and cadmium. I'm on EDTA chelation (non-IV) 2X week and found a merc free dentist in my area to get a quote on removing the 2 amalgams I have. I've had these babies for 33 years and I know, after reading all of the ill effects they can cause, that most of my ills over the years have been from the fillings.

Today I had my teeth cleaned at my old "regular" dentist. The hygenist stayed off of the silver surface of my fillings until the end of the session when she hit them with the little polisher thing. Now, at 6 hrs later, I have quite a headache and have quite a murky brain fog.

Anyone else experience this type of merc reaction after something as seemingly simple and benign as a polish?

Also...what is the average price that some have you experienced for amalgam removal and replacement of say, 1 tooth?

Thank you for all the info on this site! It has been a blessing to find!

Congratulations on deciding to get your fillings removed. Make sure it's done with all the precautions you can arrange in mind:

http://mercurytalk.com/wiki/index.php/Safety_Precautions_During_Amalgam_Removal

The symptoms you're having are likely from the increase in mercury vapor that's emitted when you abrase the surface of the fillings. Headaches are a common symptom of mercury toxicity.

I paid $190 per small fillings and $270 per large filling plus $250 consultation fee in 2000 in Florida.

Glad you've found this website helpful.

Keep us posted.

Yeah, someone else typed the same thing a while back. They got their teeth cleaned and got worse because of the increase in mercury vapor during the polishing.

Also the dental office is absolutely contaminated with mercury vapor. You only have to go in there and you can receive a significant exposure. For those more sensitive, it can be quite devastating. I've had it and some I know have also and that is without getting any dental work done. Just getting worse by going in.

So consider that side of it also, on top of having your fillings polished.

Wow! Its amazing that some of us can be that sensitive to mercury vapors. And Im glad you wrote about it because I am a dental hygienist and work 2 days a week. I have to polish when Im done with the scaling. It just goes to show you that you are reactive to the vapors however mild it seems. Good luck with getting the fillings out. Make sure you get oxygen, a rubber dam and high volume suction and try not to swallow anything. Best of luck, Diane Tilson p.s. Makes me wonder about continuing my career as a Dental hygienist. In case you haven't see it, there is a video demonstrating this here:

Very interesting.

Hi Diane, well for someone like me, because of my ultra sensitivity and weak immunity, I am a good test to see how contaminated an area is and the dental office is probably one of the worst places I have ever been in that has caused me severe long term symptoms following a visit.

Over time, though someone may not notice immediate symptoms like me, I hate to imagine what it might do. I know a dentist near me who doesn't really go in for the mercury poisoning bit, but she has admitted privately that since this job she now has inexplicable mental problems that have increased over time. So working around mercury is probably the worst thing anybody can do, even a biologic dentist who "thinks" he's got all the up-to-date equipment for keeping his office clean is fooling him/herself. I proved that by going into a biologic dental office (which was NEW) and has sophisticated extraction system to clear it from vapor.

one visit for consultation had me so poisoned, that I was months attempting to chelate it back out. I was actually meant to go to him for ongoing visits to prepare my health for dental work (cavitations/replacement of old composites with new ones). Yet I got so ill just from seeing him, that I had to eventually opt out of the whole thing. And this dentist's office wuld probably be the least contaminted of any. He was extremely fussy and thorough and was well aware of mercury vapor dangers. Yet even then, with all his high tech equipment, his office was still completely filled with it.

I even came out in rashes over my face the following evening and had burning and itching (which is what I get whenever I'm exposed to mercury). I was wheezing, becuase i had breathed it in and had uncontrollable giggling fits (which I also get when exposed to it). Plus was very ill at the sametime and had salivation and crying spells. I was lucky that DMSA managed to chelate some of it back out.

Thank you everyone! I totally had a huge headache, tight muscles in my head/neck, and itchy skin that kept moving from place to place throughout the day. Things I wouldn't have paid attention to in the past. I would have dismissed it as having a headache due to laying there with my mouth cranked open for 15 mins and me holding my neck tight. The brain fog was incredible. It took a lot to be able to work through that part.

I have benefitted tremendously from this website and the forum to read the great info on merc poisoning and amalgam removal. I found a merc free dentist in my area who says he's been merc free since 1972 and strives to keep toxic substances out of his patient's mouths. I will discuss the removal protocol with him when I am there for a consult.

Not looking forward to all the complicated stuff they have to do to ensure my (and their) safety during the extraction process. Not looking forward to the possibility of needing a crown of some sort due to how large the fillings are.

BUT I AM LOOKING FORWARD to getting these out of my mouth and moving my body forward in this healing process.

You don't need a crown, even to replace a large filling. The dentist just wants your money.

A ha! Thanks "Anonymous"....I'll go into the consult with that mind set.

Thank you everyone for your comments! Feeling much better today BTW. No significant merc symptoms today after the cleaning yesterday.

As for the replacement a large fillins, lets not get cynical, a cerec type crown/inlay is a way better bet than a large composite, those dang things can leak after no time at all on a big baby cuz they're more brittle than my Aunt Dolly's hair and cause way worse prollems down the road when they start crackin up and y'all don't even know.
Sometimes y'all really get what ya pay for.

To GetDaSilvaOut...

My friend Laura also had those issues that you had (headaches, tight muscles, especially around the neck and shoulders) with mercury toxicity, and with some research, we learned that Magnesium helped tremendously.

Mercury interferes with the utilization of magnesium and because muscles use magnesium to relax, they remain tight when it is not present.

This can be a horrible symptoms to live with. Hope this helps.

I agree with Elvis. I went for the onlay/inlay replacement. My dentist said they last WAY longer and they look and feel fabulous. If you cannot affort them and have to get composites do, because getting them OUT is better than having them in, then you can save for the better ones.

Also, I think it's just plain smart to watch crowns, have your dentist look them over. When I had two of my crowns replaced the biological dentist discovered that they were loose. When he removed them one had this yucky brown decay underneath it and the other one had this gross black mold bacteria. And these were placed by a very good dentist initially. Sometimes time does that. It's always good to have your teeth regularly checked for looseness.
