My parents still think im wasting my time getting my fillings removed. They said your not allergic but then I said well it will make me feel better if I get them out even if I am not allergic as I know they can contrbute to my symptoms if not be a part of them.

Im having a hard time in Birmingham UK to find a reliable place to get a good test to see if my fillings are causing mercury vapour or if I have mercury in my system.

I cant afford to go to london all the time to get treatment atm but will save up. My parents and even doctor thinks I should spend my money on a holiday instead of getting them out. The thing is on my last holiday I didnt enjoy is as I felt so anxious and depressed for no reason so I think going on a holiday is a waste of money lol.

These are the dentists I am having a really hard time choosing between.

David Harvie Austin

West One Dental Practice, 30 Weymouth Street, London W1G 7BS

Dr Heshem El-Essawy

Holistic dental cetnre Surrey

They all sem to be quite good and I thought Heshems has really great success rate but then I also heard of some people claiming they had problems with some of the fillings he put in and that his site claims things he cannot promise.

I really dont know, Their is mercury free dentists here in Birmingham but if I was to go they just use the rubber dam and I heard of people still have mercury trapped in gum or under new fillings(Can this still be detoxed and excreted from body if a dentist did leave some behind etc)?.

Im looking too much into this but I want to get the best treatment possible.

Thanks everyone for your time and patience.

Dr Hesham El-essawy removes all amalgam in one go and then sees you i think once every two months for follow up. He puts temporary fillings in which stay in for about a year after which permenant fillings are placed. You can though go elsewhere to have permenant fillings placed depending on your preference. You can email him to ask him more if you are inclined.

There should be reliable Birmingham dentists on this link. Although i think El-Essawy is the only one who uses the mercury vapour analyser.

Thanks for the info, It would be quite difficult going back and forward for check ups every 2 monthes. And If the fillings only last one year I would have to go back and pay more for permanent fillings as well so I have decided i wont see Hesham.

I might just go to one locally and get them removed.
I rang up one form the list even though it says they have safety procedures the lady on the phone didnt know much about it at all. This gets me concerned how throrough they are at removal.

Im also looking at getting diamond lite as its metalfree or porcelain. I heard the white composites have metals?

Hi, all dental materials contain metals to some degree. Even the white composites do, which sounds unreal i know. But certainly it is to a far lesser degree! Problem is, they all contain other chemicals also, so really it depends on what a person can tolerate.

Diamond lite seems to have a good reputation, as does cerec porcelain. But avoiding metals completely is not possible, but lessening them significantly is.

I wish you all the best on a thorough removal!

Thanks Bex for your help.

I am trying to get testing done first to prove it then I can carry on with the removal. Im hoping a dentist locally can do a kelmer test.

Anything is better then having mercury in it etc.

Hi Joe, I am in a similar situation in that I can't really afford private dental care in London at the moment, but I figured that I can't afford to be ill more, and so I have had some fillings removed by David Harvie Austin and am saving up to have the rest out, hopefully this year. He is a good dentist and a nice man, and will let you have your fillings done at your own pace, and doesn't insist on injections. Also he uses all safety precautions and is within walkng distance of both King's Cross and Euston station.

I know it's hard when family and friends don't realy believe you (none of my friends are really supportive and my doctor never heard of mercury poisonng from fillings - supposedly) but we have to follow our own instinct on this.

Thank you Demi. Its so hard choosing especially form hearing so many contradictions is dentistry and problems people have had with them as well.

I was wanting to go to Hesham since he used the best procedure and guarantees mercury to 0. But he only puts Temp fillings in so will have to fork out more in a year for permanents. Not to mentions IV Sedation is 150 Pounds an hour. The good thing is im guaranteed and I can get all 15 out at once.

Then I think i might not be poisoned as bad as others and can get them done at a cheaper dentist with safety procedures etc. But its heshams statement of mercury will still be trapped under permanent fillings what confused me.

I really think david harvey sounds excellent.

I can only say that I personally favour Austin's approach, but I do know the Essaway technique is very popular here. I just personally have deep reservations. First on the insisted need for the sedation (which is not without risk in itself) and secondly the guarantee all mercury is removed.

Austin says that it's impossible to remove all the mercury because it has seeped into the tooth and will remain there. So, I am not sure how it is possible to get it all out, at least not without taking away a lot of tooth. I'm sure others here know far more on that than I do, and I'd be interested to know how they get the tooth to be zero-mercury. Austin says that once the fillings are replaced, eventually the mercury levels in our bodies will fall from toxic to manageable, but that there will always be mercury present.

Austin takes out the mercury using every possible precaution and fills it with good composite (I think he is still using diamondlite) and can arrange a test of compatibility at biolab (about £50). He didn't check mine for mercury vapour, but did check the voltage for electrical activity. I also got the impression that health of the patient was very important to him, rather than seeing everyone as a potential money-bag (as I have been treated by dentists in the past).

I don't know whether it is better to get all the fillings replaced at once or not - maybe it doesn't really matter - but I personally chose to do it separately, partly for financial reasons and partly for dental phobia reasons. I have about four fillings left now, one big one and three small ones.

I know it's not easy making a decision, and I would hate to influence someone to the wrong decision, but thought you might appreciate someone elses imput - all helps in making up your mind <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> It took me a couple of months to make up my mind.

I forgot to mention that Austin trained under Hal Huggins, so has had good grounding. I don't agree with everything Huggins says, but he is one of the leading figures in mercury toxicity from dentistry.

Thank you Demi that was the best reassurance anyone could offer.

I was confused quite alot hearing so many contradictions between dentists on whats right and wrong. I think I will definately see Austin. It was either Austin or David Cowen. They are the 2 best I seen in london along with el-essawy.

All anyone can really do is say what their own experience has been with any particular dentist, I also was torn and having thought I was mercury free for the last 5 years and not really feeling any better, I decided to go to Hesham El- Essawy just because I liked everything I read about him and when I spoke to his nurse I felt I was dealing with people who actually cared about the patient and not the money. Yes it is expensive but the way I see it, I wont have to have it done again, unlike a number of other people I know who have ended up with Hesham because other dentists left mercury behind, sadly this does happen far too often. I was happy to be sedated and have it done all at once and felt no ill effects whatsoever, neither did my partner. I could not say this was true with other amalgam removal in the past. The other thing with Hesham is that he is an excellent oral surgeon, not just a dentist and I think that is very important if you have any other dental issues . As for Hesham's detox, I'm not sure but only because I don't think there is a one size fits all detox and I think that whole area is VERY complex and individual. My most important choice was the dentist and I never really expected one person to cover everything but nonetheless, I have no complaints about his detox, I just think there is a lot of stuff I needed to do for myself, like diet and sweating for the first time since I was about 9 yrs old(first mercury onslaught).Probably there are a number of dentists who do a good job but I am happy with my choice and my case was not entirely straightforward, I too was very frightened of being made worse or no better but this did not happen. Best of luck to all of you trying to make this decision

when you first removed your amalgams did you get it done from a normal dentist or where they trained with procedures?
