Hi everyone my naturopathic doc. wants me to test to see what my mercury levels are mind you i still have 7 amalgam fillings in my mouth. I voiced my concern and she said it was fine to take the 13 capsules and do the urine test while i still have remaining fillings in my mouth. Any suggestions??

I'd advise against this. not only is it risky WITH the amalgams in your mouth, this kind of test is risky even without them. It will likely grab a load of mercury and mobilise it everywhere possibly making you far worse in the process. I've been injured by a doctor doing a test on me too, I thought he must know what he's doing. ONce I was injured, he didn't want to know and denied it had anything to do with the challenge test. If you want the safest ways of going about mercury removal, mercury chelation, mercury testing, I strongly suggest joining up with this forum here --> http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/frequent-dose-chelation/You can go on there and read the links and files and find out the best way to go about all this, so you won't make yourself worse in the process. There are many methods out there and so much of them have injured people, it's not worth the risk in my opinion.

Id also advise against. I had this 'Kelmer' test myself 2 years ago with 9 amalgams in. My body ached all over for a week after! [Result was 606% increase, whatever that means].
The fact u have learned about the danger of mercury means its really not relevant *exactly* how much u have been exposed to since filling placement. If and when u get these damn things out, u will be exposed to even more during the process, so id recommend focusing on doing everything possible to limit [and prepare for] *that* exposure.

I would echo what has already been said. There is a way of doing the challenge test though if you are dead set on doing it that is safer and Cutler does write about in 'Amalgam illness' (though still doesnt recommend it). He suggests spreading the dose over 24 hours and doing a collection of all urine. You would have to read further.
Virago I had a Kelmer test a few years ago as well. My percentage came out at 2800% which i was shocked about. Hope its gone down now, but i dont think i'll have another test to find out

Also, there is another aspect to this. You can take a challenge test, and end up showing little to almost no level of mercury. Once this occurs, not only does the medical professional then decide you do not have mercury, but you may go through life not realising that you could have retention toxicity. Meaning, the sickest patients hold onto mercury the tightest and do not eliminate it properly.
Levels of mercury only show up when a person is either being exposed at the time and/or their body is eliminating it. If you ahve amalgams and have obvious symptoms of mercury, yet show little to no level, you can be in bigger trouble than someone who shows they are able to eliminate it.
So be aware of that, because it's a pretty bad case senario. Hair tests can be helpful, but not so much in looking at the level of mercury (which can be notoriously misleading and once again show little to almost no level), but instead looking at the minerals and seeing whether there is a pattern going on. Mercury can derange certain minerals and someone well versed in mercury is often able to spot a tail tale sign of it by looking at the mineral levels on your hair test to see if mercury is indeed at work.
Other than that, I'd just be wary of the challenge tests out there. You don't know what you might release and what yourbody will be able to stand and whether it may do any damage also. not all damage can be rectified with this toxicity and using unnecessary and risky challange tests just increases the chances of greater damage in the process. Depending of course how ill/poisoned you are.

Hi Richard, did you suffer after having this Kelmer Test done? I can understand that the result may not always prove whether you are Mercury Toxic or not, but surely it is worth doing to see if you are on the right path to recovery, and to see if Mercury is at the root cause of your problems.
I will start to take Algin and have my fillings removed before i have this test done, but seems like to me it is possibly the best test to try as at least the DMSA while temperatorly chelate the mercury into your system rather than just a hair test?

I had the test whilst i still had my fillings in. And i took the whole lot of DMSA in one go. I didn't know any better at the time. I didn't have any serious adverse side affects but i certainly would now if i were to do it again. All it told me was i had a lot of mercury in my system which pushed me at the time to have them removed. But there are other ways to test for mercury tox such as the hair test test described above by Bex. The thing is with the Kelmer test is that if the result comes back elevated then it just confirms you have elevated levels of mercury, thats all. If it comes back normal it doesnt mean you are not toxic as talked about above. It does seem especially pointless to do the Kelmer test after the fillings have been removed. As by then youre likely to have accepted that you have a problem with mercury and will have started some treatment and detox regime. The hair test is more informative although there are limitations with that also.
I would also recommend reading Andy Cutlers book 'amalgam illness - dignosis and treatment' to help you prepare for this process and for detoxing afterwards. Its so important that people are as informed as possible before going in for removal and detox because there is a lot of conflicting information around not to mention dentists undertaking damaging dental work.

Thanks for the Information Richard. I have no idea if I am Mercury Toxic or not, but i seem to suffer alot of the symptoms that others have described on here, but it would also be reassuring to know if I am toxic or not, as it obviously expensive thing to do to have your fillings out.
I thought Mercury only showed up in your hair if you had been toxic for a long time? If you can detect it from a pattern of what other minerals are showing in your hair, is this written in Andrew Cutler's book or how can you find this out?
Like I said, it would be reassuring to know to see if I do need to Detox, and i just assumed the Kelmer Test would show if i had Mercury in my system i needed to get rid off.
Would love to know other people opinion on this. Thanks

Hi Bex, do you have any more information about how you can work out from your Hair Test results/profile to see if indeed Mercury is at work? What are the signs we should be looking for?

Hi, no I"m not familiar enough with it. I should have sent mine on that group ages ago and let them interpret it. But my hair test now is years old and I"m not going to get another one, they are pretty expensive and I though I am poisoned, I have other health issues I've probably gotta deal with.
If you go on that group link I sent up above, you can ask that question there. They are very familiar with what to look for regarding minerals and whether it is likely that mercury is an issue or not.
Sorry I could not be more helpful. Also some of them have the book by Andy Cutler on hair testing analysis or something like that. So they are familiar with it and have done a lot of reading.
Bex.

Hi Chad; I would get another naturopath; any "natural" doctor that would even suggest doing a challenge test when you still have mercury in your mouth is a sadist! After researching all this stuff on the net, then having my metalic fillings removed by a "holistic" dentist, I used plenty of magesium capsules to get my bowels fairly loose during this process, as when you have your teeth redone, the liberated mercury can then be inhaled or reabsorbed through your mouth wall, so if you are "loose" re bowels, it will get excreted rapidly that way with minimal problems. All the people stating they had terrible problems when getting their teeth done either were constipated or not taking enough magnesium or other "bowel mover".
