I recently was diagnosis with Peripheral Neuropathy. Since i am not diabetic i did some research & found that mercury could be causing this & that is how i found about this forum. I also found an alternative medicine M.D. about 40 miles away. He is putting me on a whole foods diet & gave me a B12 shot & some B12 pills & a bunch of vitamins. Here is a list, Lipoic Acid, Omega Synergy (fatty acids), DHEA, Calcium & Magnesium & Green+ (a superfood w/probiotics and immune-enhancing herbs drink). After reading Andy Cutler's mercury detoxification protocol at http://curezone.com/faq/q.asp?a=3,76&q=102 most of the foods & supplements are on his list as not to take. I am not sure what to do, should stay with my M.D. plan for a couple of days or weeks, or should i go back & tell him about Andy Cutler's mercury detoxification protocol, my M.D. said that everybody has some mercury in their body & if you eat right you will be ok. Or should try another Dr. their was 3 in my area that a Mercury free dentist recommended. I felt great after the shot but in about 3 days i am not feeling that great. Thanks for any help, Willis

Willis I had the same neuropathy for the last 12 months prior to my amalgam removal in 2004. I was doing many supplements at the time but they did nothing for the shooting pains. What did do a very good job of eliminating the pain was a prescription drug called Neurontin-Generic name is gabapentin,I believe. As soon as I had my amalgams removed I can't recall one incident of the pain returning. I have not required any painkillers the last 30 months. Also by the way, my arthritic pains dropped by about 90% within weeks.

Thanks Al, I am on Gabapentin too! It works on the leg pain but none of my other symptoms. My body feels like its so toxic at times, then i have to take all these minerals yet, I just don't know what to do. I feel like i should detox my liver but am not sure if thats the right thing to do. The M.D. said that eating right your body will detox itself. Thanks, Willis

Al, How did you keep yourself healthy enough to have all your Amalgam removed? Right now i don't think i could handle it. Did you take Algin? Did you detox afterwards? Thanks, Willis

Willis My main ND, and the guy who diagnosed me, was Dr. Steve Nelson in Palm Desert, California. He started me on a variety of Biotics brand supplements about a month before we did the removal. Dr. Nelson was originally a PHD pharmacist who later got a PHD in clinical nutrition. That I believe is where his knowledge of herbs and vitamins comes from. Each and everyone of my teeth had large amalgams covered by caps, crowns or bridges. 13 had been extracted over the years. The dentist he recommended also replaced several root canals with an inert substance. Yes, I felt real rotten going into the procedure but I figured I had no other choice. It has worked for me; there have certainly been some herxheimer times since then. But I just look back and think of how overall ill I was back then. I know it sounds trite but there is no point looking back; we have to think positive and get on with it. The human body has been designed to withstand a lot.
Mercury and its associated by-products( a weakened immune system that led to an accumulation of various bacteria, virus , parasites that a presumably healthy system would control) had ruined the possibility of me enjoying my life. I was very sceptical when I started my 2 week stint of having each and evey tooth rebuilt from the remaining core up. Today I am ecstatic that I took the gamble. I don't know whether any of us will be completely cured but my lifestyle is way better. Good luck and if you can at all afford it I would highly recommend finding a biological dentist and getting the amalgams replaced.

this morning I took my 49 year old husband to the emergency room, for he was compalining that he had numbness in his right hand, forarm, lips and right cheek. He had a cat scan and the doctor said that he should see a nuerologist for he may have peripheal neoropathy? He also has very bad teeth, lots of amalgam, crowns and bridges. Last week he had two molars on the right side removed. Do you think that there may be a corrilation? He is otherwise healthy. What are your thoughts

I'm sorry, which question was that? Occasionally, a question gets overlooked.

Meg, I realized that you may be the one who asked the question and then didn't sign your name when you asked someone to answer.
I don't believe that anyone will tell you on this forum that there is or is not a relation. However, if you read Alcan's post earlier, he said that since his amalgam removal he hasn't had the pain return in 30 months.
Your husband could have testing done for amalgam illness, but sometimes they aren't accurate. Excellent Book: Amalgam Illness. You can buy it from Russ and Laura on this website.
Don't lose heart, research, research, research. Mercury Amalgams have damaged many, and many are improving after removal and chelation. Important thing is...don't let doctors discourage you if you feel that this may be his problem.
Hope this helps a little. Also, remember it's night time for many of the posters on this forum. They might reply tomorrow.
