I just found this on the Vitamin C Foundation
"Vitamin C is acidic and it can contribute to Candida overgrowth."
This fits in with my experience. If I take buffered Vitamin C in ascorbic acid form, I get terrible bloating and rumbling - candida symptoms in fact. I asked Bee about this on her forum and she said it was a die-off reaction. I don't seem to have this problem with Vitamin C with bioflavanoids (but I must look and see what the Vit C is made from - if it is corn it is a no-no).
Anyone else found this / got any comments?

No some people do have a genuine bad reaction to vitamin C. My stepfather is an example and cannot take vitamin C at all. But again , I think it depends on whether it's a genuine reaction/allergy, or whether it may actually be some toxin movement/elimination going on. Even healthy people still have toxins and claim they cannot handle certain things and often don't realise it can be helping more toxins come out.
I guess people would get enough vitamin C in other things that are not as acidic if they genuinely have an intolerance to vitamin C otherwise...
The signs he gets is burning in the eyes etc. It's very bad what happens to him and it seems to be the acid side of it or something.

this was written by Jason on another thread not too long ago...check out the last part....may be why you can't tolerate vitamin C.
"Cutler discusses this in his book briefly. A person with adrenal problems will have a bad tired lull at about 3-4 if he/she forces themselves to stay up past 10 pm they will stay up ALL night. In fact at times they will be extremely tired but not people able to sleep (racing mind, panic, feeling like they can't breath) alot of this is caused by adrenal and the subsequent slowdown in cerrulplasim production (in the adrenals) and there for causing a accumulation of copper. Cerrulplasim causes the liver to bind copper into bile and excrete it. Low adrenals, alot of times high copper which accounts for SOME (not always) of the psycological problems. Mercury directly effects a enzyme that will allow you to make normal (or high) progestrone and normal/high DHEA but low cortisol because of the enzyme defciency. Everybody has to remember that Mercury interferes greatly with enzymes, cell receptors and everything under the sun. I think the important thing to account for is that most of us probably have a genetic fault that favors accumlation of mercury. This does not mean that you can't do anything it just means you have to modulate amino acids (taurine for example) minerals (zinc, lower copper, etc) , vitamins (vitamin C)to favor your genetic predisposition along with avoiding mercury exposuire, before, during and after a appropriate chelation method. A good thing to try is Vitamin C and B-5 (panthetic acid) as they are highest in your Adrenals and Pituatary glands. If you have been adrenal insufficent (adrenal fatigue what not) then you may get "copper dumps" from the Vitamin C as it is a great chelator of Copper. "

Hmm interesting... I have found wide variance in how my stomach reacts to Vitamin C. I got the NOW brand with rose hips, bioflavoids, and all that jazz and couldn't tolerate it cause it was straight ascorbic acid (made my stomach rumble, etc...), then I tried Natrol "Ester-C", which is actually "calcium ascorbate" and thus has a higher PH and I tolerated it fine. I have also tried the powdered "sodium ascorbate" from Bronson research and it was the easiest cause I just mixed it with water but I think it made my BP go up cause of all the sodium. Not too much but like 5-10mm Hg... I think people just have to try the reputable brands until they find something that works. Or if you have a nutritionally savvy Dr. thats a good place to start to...
