Just wanted to share with you my findings about the candida spit test, for those of you that are familiar with this "self-test". If you spit in the glass with cold water first thing in the morning, before brushing your teeth, healthy saliva will float on top. If you have yeast, saliva will tend to sink to the bottom. You can find out about the saliva test online if you do a search. Here is one http://www.1stcandidacure.com/candidatest.html Anyways, I just wanted to share with you all the happiness of being candida free. My saliva used to sink to the bottom of the glass when I would do the test and it looked very bad. I have been detoxing mercury/candida for about two years now, and when I did the spit test this morning, the spit stayed on the top. It was a great feeling of victory! I know that all of the mercury is probably not all gone yet, but this really gives me hope that I can be healthy again! I feel so much better ! I hope it stays that way <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Cheers! p.s. the recent candida tests have also came back negative, therefore I have concluded that the spit test is accurate.

Thanks for this post, as I find your improvements very encouraging!
I've struggled with treating candida for 3 years now, and eventually realized 6-12 months ago that mercury is likely the root problem and the reason I couldn't get well from the candida, no matter how hard I tried, no matter how closely I stuck to the damn diet.
So do you think that chelating mercury is what helped you get rid of the candida?
I'm hopeful that as I do chelation, my related health issues will start to heal as well (I'm treating them at the same time, but like I said, nothing seems to be working. I'm hoping the mercury is the hidden key to all this.
Take care, ~Tia

Hi there,
Yes, I firmly believe that as you detox more and more mercury you will aslo become yeast free. Yeast exists to protect you from mercury and is always an occurance and a result of a lowered immune system. Therefore, yeast is almost always a sign that there is something wrong in the body that needs to be taken care of.
I too was desperately trying to cure candida for about 5 years until I realized that this was related to mercury (when I found this site), which is when I started with mercury detox, I did not use any chelating agents that are mentioned on this forum.
Mostly, it is a healthy diet, lots of teas and warm water, Algin, vitamin C, Q10, magnesium, vitamin E/selenium etc that have helped me through this. (as well as meditation to help my anxiety) although anxiety and body shaking was so bad I would almost go into a shock, so I had to rely on some sedatives. It was very freaky being in this state and I hope that no one ever has to experience anything like that.
At one point, I honestly thought I was not going to make it, so for all of you out there, you will get better. Just be persistant, that day will come... I am still not completely recovered but I feel "younger" and so much healthier than I can remember in a long time...
Cheers! Nina

What a wonderful story Nina, thanks for taking the time to share. I did the spit test and mine is clear usually, unless I do some cheating. I hadbeen feeling so good lately, I thought I would try some fruitcake made with rice flour. Whoa, big mistake!!! The problem being.... the fruits are soaked in sulfur to preserve them and that mobilized a whole bunch of mercury...so be careful what you eat guys....no more fruitcake for this chica!!!
Best health and keep up the good work Nina. Nice to know that a good diet can go so far.
Merry Christmas, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Sandi xoxo

If a person's problem is just mercury, they are likely to heal from this and cure their candida. If a person has other challenges, they will battle constantly and even getting rid of mercury may not work properly or may not help if something else has taken over.
I used to have mercury poisoning (still do), but was healing from it and candida wasn't so much of an issue. But once other things happened to my health, it was even worse than the mercury and I now battle permanently, with issues I don't even understand. Gut problems are a huge problem for me now all the time.
I did the candida spit test and it was bad. I had all on the list they gave. BUt this is the odd thing, my dad who is healthy did it too and it showed it was bad for him as well....
What on earth does that mean? His spit test was as bad as mine, if not worse and he's very well. I'm as sick as a dog...

Probably he just has gut yeast and yours is systemic. Have you addressed your ileocecal valve yet Bex. If that is weakened and stuck open...you may be reabsorbing yeast that travels back up into the small intestine. That creates a huge burden for your liver and it cannot keep up with all the detoxing it has to do. It made a huge difference in my recovery....I can't believe i didn't tell you this before. Check out these links..the first one is an excerpt from my ND's book.... http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FKA/is_9_66/ai_n6155923/pg_1http://www.drciprian.com/ICV.htmhttp://www.earthtym.net/ref-hiatal-valve.htm#06I hope this helps..I am betting it will make a huge difference for you...it sounds hokey..but many on the Yeast Connections followed this and got way better real fast...you may notice a difference in less than a week. Let me know if you have any questions... Sandi xoxo

Wow those artciles look interesting... They mention various ways on how you can fix this problem. Chiropractor, nervous system balance, vitamin D activation, etc... Care to comment on how you went about doing this? thanks

My ND...Dr Matsen gave me a liquid calcium supplement to strengthen the ICV and of course I follow the candida diet...and no roughage like nuts or raw foods that may irritate the ICV. Closing it manually won't help..it has to be strengthened by absorbing the calcium. This seems hokey, but if we don't eat according to our climate it our body gets confused. If we eat tropical fruits or too many raw veggies in cool climates the extra potassium signals the body that it is summertime and we are must be getting vitamin D from sunlight so therefore it doesn't activate the body's stores of vitamin D. Without the vitamin D, our body doesn't utilize the calcium and we get deficient and all our bones and soft tissues get weaker. I had really bad osteoporous when I started the diet and one year later, I was totally normal. If we have a weakened ICV..the yeast floods the gut and the liver with toxins Then phase one of the liver detoxifies too fast for phase two to keep up and the unneutralized toxins or peroxides, including heavy metals spill into the blood stream and cause inflammation and other serious health effects which we all have experienced I am sure. That is another reason to take liver support such as milk thistle, dandelion, etc. Sorry for the ramble...but this really works. If I eat too much raw food, even in the summer...it can screw me up. That is probably another reason I feel so much better in the summer....the vitamin D factor. Dr Matsen has written several books and the one that explains this the best is Eating Alive II. His website is ..... http://www.ndaccess.com/EatingAlive/Page.asp?PageID=5Sandi

I can see accumulation of some darker material on my tongue back near my throat. Is it a candida symptom?
And if yes, what is your opinion: Is it worth fighting against candida, or should I just concentrate on removing mercury from my body and then candida dies out on its own.

Not sure if it is or not, could be as candida does show signs on the tongue often. Regardless, you will likely have candida anyway, as anybody poisoned or with any immune challenge, almost without exception has yeast overgrowth.
Definitely deal with it, whilst you prepare for the mercury removal. Candida will just poison you alongside the mercury and make you weaker and sicker and can push an already toxic person over the edge. It will also hinder your ability to heal and detox from mercury, and will make mercury more toxic, as I hear it methylates mercury inside the body.
A candida diet is the best way to start, as this allows the body to naturally reduce the yeast. But it's not something you can continue to cheat on, yu have to be strong and stick at it before the yeast will start to die off. You may get symptoms from this too, as people can feel ill as the yeast die.
Antifungals can be necessary sometimes, but are a little risky as they split open candida aggressivly and candida often contain mercury. So they can end up releasing mercury from the candida yeast, as they split the cell walls open.
diet is the best and safest, at least at first.
No sugar, no yeast, no gluten grains (limited grain full stop), no milk, no fruit. consume things like meat, vegetables (no potatoes or other high sugar vegetables, carrots are risky also), eggs, brazil and almond nuts are "ok" for some, plain sugar free acidophilus yoghurt, and cooking in and including healthy fats like butter, extra virgin olive oil, lard, organic coconut oil. etc.
It's limited yes, but often it's all we have to try and contorl 'some" symptoms and help the body cope easiser.
