When I first became ill I found that I had become allergic to almost every single food, every time I ate I had some sort of terrible allergic reaction and most times vomited, hence me losing 2 stone in a month. I had to have an endoscopy to see if I had a problem and nothing was found. About 8 months after thisI started to feel better and could eat absolutely anything with no bad effect. I just dont understand it. Yesterday when we went to London I had a buttered toasted teacake and Cappachino, filt fine. had tuna and cheese baguette for lunch with pint of cider, felt absolutely fine. Today had bowl of porridge, with honey, advised by Neurologist, was very ill. Dont understand the whole thing. Seems sometimes I can eat things with no bad effect and other times the same things can make me ill. Anyone understand?

You could be having a delayed reaction from the foods you ate yesterday...gluten, caffeine, sugar and alcohol are nono's for most mercury toxic folks. In the beginning you probably had leaky gut syndrome which causes food sensitivities and allergies...and it is probably healed for the most part now. But some of the senstivities will remain because of the damage the mercury has done. Oatmeal is very allergenic for most of us...I still react badly to it.

I eat rice cookies or muffins and weak green tea...they are very satisfying and much easier for us to digest.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Tracy, how long have you been eating these kinds of foods? , tuna is full of mercury. It is probably one of the worst types of fish you can eat. All the other foods you listed, ALL feed candida, plus porridge/oats has gluten in it.

sorry to give the bad news, but I cannot find one bit of food or drink you listed that is actually healthful for a toxic person. The cider, the cheese, the tea cake, the porridge, the honey are disasters for anybody who is toxic and has candida issues. And that is not counting the tuna.

I know you should have a right to be able to treat yourself or have some of these things (They don't seem like much do they?), but i'm afraid that most of us cannot do this.

one feels that life is bad enough without being able to have a little bit of pleasure in some food, but if I ate what you're eating, I would be in an even worse state than I am now (and that's bad enough).

Me too, if I ate those foods, I would be sick as a dog...and yes I forgot about the tuna..one of the worst foods for mercury content. I recently had a few cheats and could feel the illness and depression and insomnia setting in the very next day.

Sandi, it just goes to show how essential it is to stick to the diet permanently *unless permanent solutions are done for this illness*. I'm glad you got back on track and that's quite something that your symptoms were coming back so soon after cheating.

For me? since the cigarette binge, I have not been able to improve and it's 5 weeks. So I am honestly not coping at all.

Yes Bex, you are so right.... the diet is crucial and I continued the binge for several days even though I could feel the effects...dumb hey? Feed that yeast a bit and it has a real party and wants MORE!!!

Hang in there Bex....are you using any liver support like milk thistle or dandelion? There is a good homeopathic I was using in the beginning...called Lyphosot..good for lymphatic drainage...maybe that would help.

Lots of greens and beet and carrot salad with lemon and flax oil dressing help with liver cleansing, do you do that?

Please don't give up kiddo, we need you to help the cause....and spread the word.

I was just contacted by a member of the forum that lives in this town and he has a plan devised to help spread the word...we are going to meet soon. I am so anxious to hear his ideas...will keep you posted.

HI Sandi, thanks again for your neverending support and positive outlook. You are something! I am trying to hang in there, but I can't seem to get over this and I'm cramping in the gut and sitting all day because it is weighing me down.

I think personally teh cigarettes, must have poisoned my system so badly that the candida took over and now diet does not seem to be enough.

I am ready to start an antifungal soon, if things don't improve. I have taken milk thistle yes, and I will try that again thanks. But I think the gut is the problem. My liver suffers due to the gut and I can't do a thing unless enough candida goes and this time, it is not going.

usually it dies off after any cheating or something if I stick to the diet, this time no.

I am astounded at this and very upset. I'll try the other things too, but right now I am so ill and tired, my own father is bringing me in things to eat. usually if I get yeast under control, I don't need that kind of help, right now I do.

anyway, thank you again and look foward to what that member is going to do!

Keep us posted

God bless!

Hi Tracey. Tuna should definitely be avoided. If you don't cut out anything else, definitely tuna. It's loaded with mercury and people have got sick just from fish.

Hang in there, Bex. I'm sure the affect of the cigarettes will start to subside. Within only a few hours of stopping smoking, the body starts to heal. If the body is already ill, then it will take longer, but you will get improvement. Maybe be extra strict with your diet for a couple of weeks and drink only water.

You have a good idea what to do and are reading up on things to help yourself, and that puts you ahead of so many people already.Just don't be too hard on yourself, you're doing well. You've faced up to your health problems, your weaknesses, and you're doing something about them. Some people just can't face up to the possibility of mercury poisoning and just don't do anything about it.

You made a mistake with the cigarettes, but we all make mistakes and indulge ourselves. I went for a pizza a few weeks ago and had a coke with it plus olives. By the night I was in bed with migraine (couldn't see from visual disturbances). This week we ended up in pizza hut again (not many choices of places to dine). I learnt from the past experience so I had a thin pizza with no extra toppings and a glass of sprite instead of coke. I didn't have any reactions that time.

I think with any diet we have to be realistic concerning our own personal abilities. I know I can't keep to my personal diet fully, so I try to about 95%. Some people are able to live by very strict diets, and that is fantastic, but I do slip up. I also am trying to combine various diets on a budget that I have to compromise if I don't want to starve. I just try not to beat myself up because I know I am doing my best. There is a saying "experience is the name we give to our mistakes": but it's true. If we turn them around into an experience, we can learn from them

It's none of our faults we got this illness. You're doing your best and always have informative things to say here to help people. Keep the faith, you're doing great.

HI Demi thanks a lot of the vote of confidence. I was never a "smoker" but did do a binge smoke on my birthday, which was silly to say the least. I don't normally smoke at all...(although int eh past I'd have one or two smokes once a week sometimes).

But this bout did me in. I hope it does subside, but it's been over 5 weeks now and no sign of improvement. NOt sure what is wrong. It must be that, although I can't be certain.

I am sticking to the diet too, but so far no results. I'm drinking a lot of water due to the herb teas i drink all day too, as well as taking vitamin C in water...

Yeah it's hard to sometimes be on the diet 100% perfect 100% of the time. It's goo dyou have moderated some of it though and the thin based pizza seems better (I love pizza, but don't have it normally for similar reasons).

I feel very poisoned, and am not sure if it's the smokes or the cheek and gum testing I was doing with dental materials, as they too set off bad reactions. But surely that would not remain in my system..... so I'm very confused.

Anyway, thanks again and for the kind comments! Much appreciated.

Take care

Bex.

I am usually very careful with my diet but on Friday when eating out with friends i had a small bottle of beer and a Tiramisu for dessert. I was okay for the rest of the day but I paid for it during the night and the next day. Felt jittery, bungged up with mucus, fatigued with a genral hungover type feeling. I seem to do this to myself once in a while and remember for about a month and then forget and do it again. Still I am learning.

Hi Bex,

For us to have mercury poisoning (and the majority of amalgam patients not to have it, at least to the same degree) then there has to be something in our biological make up that smakes us vulnerable. This could be sensitivity to toxins, slow excreters of toxins, or both. I believe that my problem is sensitivity. Cigarette smoke alone makes me sick and very little alcohol can get me tipsy.

There are hundreds of toxins in the average cigarette smoke. So, by exposing your body to 20 ciigarettes (I think you said?) you would have absorbed at least some of these hundreds of different toxins direct into your system (including some mercury). You must have a vulnerability to toxins, and so this absorption would affect you far more than an "average" person who would smoke the same amount. It could be that you are both sensitive and a slow excreter, which means your body is taking longer to get rid of the toxins absorbed and very sensitive to the presence of these toxins.

This is just a guess, but we really must be far more vulnerable to toxins than the average person, and thus I think we must be extra careful not to expose ourselves to cigarette smoke and other toxins. I am sensitive to household paints aswell, and so we now use special paints that have no-odour (I can't remember their names) and are environmental friendly. They require more coats, but are safer for sensitive people.

It can take about 6 weeks for a person to recover from a general anaesthetic (took a friend of mine 2 months for her perionds to return after one), so 5 weeks isn't really that long for your body to recover. It imght take at least a couple of months. Hang in there

That is interesting, Tracey. There clearly must have been a trigger for you. Are you sure that amalgam is the most likely culprit? Don't get me wrong, I totally and absolutely believe it causes systematic poisoning, but maybe is not the culprit for everyone (we live in a very toxic world generally and I don't think we can automatically assume mercury toxicity is the cause for every problem). For me, I had serious symtoms of toxicity within months of having amalgams and the more amalgams I got the sicker I was. So, there was an absolute correlation between amalgams and my health.

Of course, other people might not be sick for some time as they are not sensitive, just slow excreters. This means it could take some years before they show signs of toxicity - the level in their system needs to build up to toxic levels.

Can you think of anything that has happened in the past 2 years that caused the problems? Did you have any amalgams removed without precautions around the time (or some weeks before) you got sick? You said somewhere else about having a root canal? How many years did you have amalgams before you started to get sick?

It might be worth exploring other possible toxicities - just incase for you it is something else that is causes the problems. I'm not saying it is, but just worth exploring. It could just be that your body didn't react as quickly to the mercury as some peoples do.

A change in hormonal activity can bring it on...many women get worse during or after pregnancy or when they enter menopause. Or maybe a flu shot or vaccine of some sort..or too much tuna...could be any one of a number of things to tip the mercury scales....or maybe a combination of several.

Hi Demi, yeah, something is badly wrong with the way my body handles toxins. Both sensitivity wise and holding onto them without eliminating properly.

This has actually been there since I became a young adult, so something was always wrong obviously from the word go. I have been told after a dentist viewed my liver profile, that the imbalance is significant and in fact so bad, they suggest it's either been caused by long term toxicity, and/or genetic uniqueness.

However, though the problem has always been there for many years, I was still much healthier than I am now. I have had other hits to my health that have obviously worsened this tendency, plus possibly caused damage inside of me (even the blood brain barrier). Toxins now get in and appear to go straight to my gut/liver/brain (I can almost tell by how it feels and what happens to me).

Yes, someone else smoking a packet would notice next to nothing...or at the most, someone who wasn't used to smoking might get sick after it for a short time. Five weeks on, and to experience total hell, is very abnormal.

Thanks for your own evaluation, because it does help to hear other people's perspective and it can also confirm what I already sense.

I felt it might take two months or so also. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! I don't know why I do these things, it's like once I start ever feeling "okish", I go and do something stupid. It's not self destruction or attention seeking, it's just me being me I guess.

Anyway, the symptoms are still going, but I am sticking to this diet and it doesn't sound long, but it's been 5 days now of rigidly being on the diet. It may not cure me with this toxicity going on, but it might "help".

I'm blocked up in the nasal area, itching in the nose. Cramping in the gut, exhausted, sometimes metal taste or metal smell, anxiety attacks, depression, and on it goes.

I have done it myself today. I had a spicey bean burger for dinner, and now I am suffering. I have so loud ringing in my ears I can't bear silence, so am having to stay up with background noise. I am throwing the ones I have left. I am not touching them again! I just get lazy with all the food preparations, but I definitely feel the benefit of cooking food from scratch.

I have been ill for over 20 years. I started getting amalgams at about 10 and I have been sick since. I honestly don't think I will ever be 100% well because I had chronic systematic toxicity by the age of 12. Of course I can't prove that without a time-machine to go back and test myself, but I know it was what made me sick. I had amalgams and braces and some sealant and composite in my mouth. I had terrible OCD and suicidal thoughts. Those years were horrendous psychologically. I got tremors and pins and needles and my periods were all over the place, hypersensitive skin. I think I was so sensitive to mercury that it just totally poisoned me between all the exposure. I got better as the exposure lessened, so I do think my body eliminates mercury quickly.

I used to lie in bed and wonder what was wrong with me, how I had become what I was. I had no idea I was poisoned. I just wanted to be like all the other kids, but I had so much mental disturbance that I just had to battle to get through the day. I honestly don't know how I got to college, sheer determination, and improvement once my braces went and I cut out fish. It is still a battle, but compared to what I was then, I just can't complain. I think it's beyond words how terrible that a medical system can do that to a child and never take responsibility, only deny liability.
