I got the results of my parasitology report last week. The good news is that there was no sign of candida. However, my doctor didn't like the levels of bacteria that he saw and he wanted me to take Neomycin for one day and then a probiotic to replenish my GI flora.
I took the Neomycin last Wednesday and I felt good the next day. However, after that I started to deteriorate and now I feel suicidal and totally spaced out. Could this be the result of a reaction to Neomycin or a Herxheimer reaction?
I spoke with Laura about this and I'm doing what she suggested which is drinking a lot of water to flush the toxins from my body and taking a lot of Algin and vitamin C.
Has anyone else had an experience like this? If so what do you suggest?
I am on one drug which is an anticonvulsant called Dilantin. Some days it seems to be helping me (more calm) and some days like this it seems to do nothing at all. Since I'm very sensitive to drugs I also have to be aware of side effects.

Neomycin [color:"red"]Sulfate[/color]
I'm curious about the sulfate. Since we're dealing with mercury toxicity, could this mobilize mercury? Perhaps this is why you're having the symptoms. Just a thought.
Below is a "side-effect" warning about Neomycin
The most common adverse reactions to oral neomycin sulfate are nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. The “Malabsorption Syndrome” characterized by increased fecal fat, decreased serum carotene and fall in xylose absorption has been reported with prolonged therapy. Nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity and neuromuscular blockage have been reported (see BOXED WARNINGS and PRECAUTIONS sections).
DRUG INTERACTIONS
Caution should be taken in concurrent or serial use of other neurotoxic and/ or nephrotoxic drugs because of possible enhancement of the nephrotoxicity and/or ototoxicity of neomycin (see BOXED WARNINGS).
Caution should also be taken in concurrent or serial use of other aminoglycosides and polymyxins because they may enhance neomycin’s nephrotoxicity and/or ototoxicity and potentiate neomycin sulfate’s neuromuscular blocking effects.
Oral neomycin inhibits the gastrointestinal absorption of penicillin V, oral vitamin B-12, methotrexate and 5-fluorouracil. The gastrointestinal absorption of digoxin also appears to be inhibited. Therefore, digoxin serum levels should be monitored.
Oral neomycin sulfate may enhance the effect of coumarin in anticoagulants by decreasing vitamin K availability.

Thanks for the information, Russ. That could explain why it made me so sick. I'm going to see my doctor next week and tell him what happened.
Will I ever get better? Honestly I wish that I had the courage to commit suicide now but I don't have the guts to do it.

Don't give up. At the end of this illness your horrible experience will be a great gift to many others who suffer and are searching for the answers you will have found.
I know it doesn't make you feel any better now, but I believe you will be a life-changing soul to others so long as you persevere.

Thanks, Russ. I hope that you're right.
This is so bad that I feel like God himself is torturing me and punishing me for my sins.

can only say Aarron not heard of what you took but when i took a small dose of anti-fungals which the dentist gave me i was very ill, had seizures and hallucinations and was vomiting froth all day Our bodies produce yeast to protect our bodies from mercury's ravaging effects...so when you take an antifungal and kill off too much yeast at once...more mercury is released than your body can effectively eliminate at once. The trick it so go very slow...just following a candida diet may be a good enough detox for some of us. Although it is a good idea to get the candida under control...it makes getting rid of mercury that much easier and less unpleasant. Sandi xoxo

Testing for candida is notoriously unreliable. This is why many people have it and continue to suffer because test results say they are "clear".
One thing that confuses me about this, is why would your doctor go and put you on that stuff, without addressing your diet first? REgardless of whether he saw yeast or not, the diet is there to starve out pathogens and lower the levels naturally first. This is the first thing anybody should do.
If you have a severe enough problem and you take probiotics plus the other stuff he gave you, it's NO WONDER you are having a severe reaction. This in itself shows he's probably onto half of your problem, as many of us actually do have other things going on alongside mercury (e.g. low grade infections, gum disease, cavitations etc). This lowers the immune system and can actually cause worse symptoms than the mercury itself.
I'm just surprised the doc didn't get you on a diet to rid you off all sugar, yeast, gluten, fruit, milk etc, and try and get you stronger before shoving you straight onto any kind of antifungal stuff or probiotic.
Even just probitoics on their own could do this to you, especially if you haven't addressed your diet first. That is the first step and I can't understand anybody ignoring it, it is irresponsible.
Even Andy Cutler doesn't address the diet for candida and he only talks about using antifungals, and this again is ridiculous. You can kill of massive amounts of pathogens, yeast etc, all at once, releasing all those toxins which will flood into your blood stream, overloading your liver and making you EXTREMELY SICK, yet at the sametime, if youre ignoring the diet, you will be feeding them as well, so the process of feeding and killing will go in a continual cycle.
If you did the diet, you might actually start to get a die off, but one that is less traumatic to you than the probiotics and the other stuff. I would say YES it's die off. That's my guess, but I'm no doctor, so I haven't really got a right to gamble with your health.
However, I can say do the diet, because this is no gamble. This is good for anybody toxic with high levels of yeast and bacteria. By the way, if you are toxic? with mercury or ill with anything else, candida is an opportunist organism, it is nearly always present and many had tests that showed clear and didn't bother doing the diet thinking they didn't have a problem.
The way to test for candida can be looking at a list of symptoms, seeing your response to the candida diet, and the spit test (though eventhat can be unreliable). The spit test, is just getting a glass of water and leaving it by your bed till morning. Then when you wake up, before you have anything to eat or drink, you work up a lot of spit and spit it into the glass of water and leave it there. Check on it in abut 20 minutes and hold it up to the light so you can see whether there is clouding and string like legs coming down from the spit, or there is suspended cloudy bits in the water, and or the spit has sunk to the bottom or is sinking to the bottom. Any or all of these signs can suggest a candida problem. Again, all testing can be unreliable with this organism.
it's up to you. you can ignore the diet, or you can get tough and do it and see if you improve over time. But improvements will not normally happen for a few weeks. You will generlaly feel worse, as toxins and things are beginning to loosen and come out.
The very fact many have a problem giving up the stuff they want to keep eating, can be another sign they have a candida problem, as it needs to feed on that stuff to survive and will cause you to keep eating it. When you try and give it up, you will usually begint o crave it and you can feel like you're starving. This is the yeast crying out to be fed usually and if you stick at it, it will begin to die and then you can feel grotty.
I would never take a probiotic or antifungal in someone who isn't on the diet. But the symptoms you are getting, does sound like your doctor may well have nailed some of your problem. It's just surprisingthat he's doing this without preparing you with diet and supportive supplements first, plus maybe even giving you homeopathic drops to help the symptoms and help drainage of toxins.

You may be right, Bex. However, I don't think that I have the self control to go on a candida diet. Maybe the quick and dirty way with antibiotics will work for me and maybe it won't.

Whatever you try, I hope it will work. I may need more than the diet now, I am finding things are very bad and I don't think I have much choice but to get on an antifungal or something as well.
You may have an ongoing infection going on that could be producing high amounts of bacteria in your system and making you very sick. With me, I have jawbone infection and gum disease and both these can affect a person systemically and cause even worse problems than mercury alone!
Not sure what to do, i can't get help for it. I am going to try a gum remedy and see if this imrpoves my symptoms, if not, I'm going on grapefruit seed extract, which supposedly is antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal, plus is healthy at teh sametime.

The best way to self discipline that I've found (and I'm still working on it) is to learn to do something that our culture has taught us is yukky, gross, and unacceptable: Learn to love yourself.
Give yourself every advantage in life (not ever at the harm of other people); for the body, healthy food, for the mind, intellectual stimulation in an area that interests you (for example, for me it's people, computer programming and music), and or the soul, laughter and contact with good people.
Loving yourself has received such a bad rap in society but it really is what God wants us to do, and his model emotion for that is this: Don't you want your children to care about (love) themselves and to give themselves every advantage they can have as well? Of course you do.
Also, when you do accept, like and love yourself, you are much more well equipped to love others. You will also inspire others with your life and help them realize that it's really OK to take care of yourself, and as an added bonus, self discipline comes (more) easily.

I'm still pretty sick but I feel a bit better than I did a couple of days ago.
I think that I'm extremely toxic because I got severe flu like symptoms that included muscle twitches. Actually it's better to say that symptoms which I already had were aggravated by whatever happened.
