Vitamin E and the herb Ginkgo Biloba both help reduce the risk of blood clots.
Vitamin E improves blood flow by dilating blood vessels, inhibits blood clotting, and strengthens capillary walls.
Ginkgo biloba reduces platelet aggregation (blood-clotting), and contains active ingredients that may reduce platelet-activating factor (PAF), the substance released from cells that causes blood platelets to "stick together". It is important to note that Ginkgo may reduce the blood?s ability to coagulate (clot) and thus, may increase the effectiveness of anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs such as aspirin, heparin, warfarin (Coumadin) and pentoxifylline (Trental). Caution is also advised if taking "natural? blood-thinners, such as high-dose vitamin E.
