Is it really possible that mercury from amalgam fillings interferes with the thyroid gland?

Has anyone experienced thyroid recovery after amalgam replacement? I'm waiting for that miracle to happen. Please help.

my thyroid is absolutrely shot i had covusions s bad had to call the parsmedics she said most of my symptoms sounded like my thyroid had packed in and she knew cos she had it herself she said left untrated it can cause devestating effects both physical and metal she said she wished she could take mr to a special unit to be treated but wasnt allowed one of the symptoms is freeling cold all yhe time well i ended up in hospital and they sent me home with noyhing i have tried self treating but nothing helps and the doctors wont help me what are your symptoms Tracy ps had all my amalgams removed over 2 months ago and am feelin worse than ever

Well my symptoms did not occur so suddenly. I've had fatigue, feeling cold, dry skin, dry eyes, dizziness, muscle aches and spasms etc. but the worst is the feeling like I had the flu or a hangover. My TSH is elevated, but I have no antibodies for the thyroid. So what is going on in my thyroid? Amalgam? I had them removed a month ago. I also have been feeling BAD just before it and after. Absolutely horrible. It's worst when I try to rest or sleep, I feel like boiling (!). I mean it feels like my cells are boiling, each and every one of them.

i know exactly how you feel i was extremely healthy and happy in ajob at school counseleing kids 2 years ago i went for for root canal fillings on the monday. Tuesday and wednesday i have sore dry eyes and mouth thought i was coming down with a vrus. O nthe Thursday night iwas violently ill, thought i had menengitis things got worse couldnt walk from bed to bathroom without fallin over had boling all over severe muscle twithing and weaknes. the doctors said i was just depressed i had nothing to be depressed about apart from the illness i had to give up my job i had my amalgams removed after a private hospital in london diagnosed me with epstein barr virus ,cytomela virus mercury poisoning and my immune sytem was attacking my own body my thyroid was alos not working took the results to my doctor who wouldnt even read them. have been back and they still say can do nothing foryou. The feeling of blood boiling is horrendous, i think this is when the mercury is reditributed into your blood stream. i have had several blackouts and seizures since they still wont do anything for me. The hospital told me to do a 24 hour urine teest which is especially for amalgams the lab guy told my husband theyd had 2 positive tests this week and it would take 2 dayss when we rang back for results there was a huge cover up and a different person said they have to be sent away for 2 weeks we argued but she basically told me to mind my own business and said sh e had rang my gp. The whole thing is a cover up and i dont think anyone will help us . my symptoms now are horrendous i havnt slept in 6 days it makes you fell like your going insane i have a family to look after and i feel so angry that people like us are suffering so much and nobody cares you are not alone there are hundreds of us i got so desparate and bad after removal that i took an overdose and was in hospital for 3 days the staff didnt care a damn and just wanted to get rid of me i have triedto de-tox but ended up with the mercury again travelling around my body and the burning was awful i dont know what to suggest to you i am sick of the whole thing and dont know what to do feels like were fighting a losing battle some people seem to be able to detox with no bad effects but i am not one of them i thought at least sorting out my thyroid may help but the doctors wont do the right sort of tests and they dont believe in amalgam poisoning they just think im insane i know peole have bought stuff off the internet i have dsone this myself but it hasnt helped i truly wish iknew what to suggest to you but i myself am going through hell and know others in the same position its a nightmare

Oh dear. I must say I am in better shape than you are, after all. I hope you are trying to detox with selenium, vit. C... that's what I am doing (no help so far). You said your immune system is attacking you -what do you mean? ANA antibodies, or thyroid antibodies? I have elevated ANA antibodies too, but no reason found for that, either. your immune system can apparently start to attack your own body cells also when the mercury has permeated your brain barrier it can let in all sorts of viruses which also attack your brain do you live inthe uk? how old are your children? i have a friend wnos vicar got amalgam poisoning and became schizophrenic he recovered after a while i also had a friend who worked as a dentasl nurse and became infertile she went to Harley street only to find she had lymphatic cancer and died what i dont understand is that there are dentists and doctors and dental assistants who have been on this site and been affected so why does noone believe it happens i am trying natural de-tox but its not a lot of use. i hate being stuck at home while everyone gets on with their lives i use to be so ative and full of life fu and energy

sorry me again are you on the candida diet i try very hard when i had my amalgams removed the dentist gave me anti-fungals i was literall vomiting froth it was coming out of everywhere this can also make you extremely ill but it should be killed off slowly by diet

Well, I try to be on candida diet. I just know I don't do it well enough. It is hard to cook 2 kinds of meals, for the family and for myself. And I'm too sick to cook at all - still I have to cos I have 2 kids, 4 and 8 yrs.

I try to eat lots of sallad etc. and avoid sugar.

I was diagnosed with over active thyroid a couple of weeks after having root canal treatment. This happened about three years ago. I was put on medication for a year and thankfully my throid has been normal since then. I found a brilliant herbalist in London and took herbs along side my medication. I don't know if that made any difference.

If you know your thyroid is shot, theres no harm in taking Armour starting at a low dose, lots of people are doing it.
you can easily buy it on the internet and loads of people are treating themselves.
Sometimes you should start treating adrenals for a couple of weeks before the Armour, if your adrenals are shot.
i started Armour myself without my doctor and feel alot better, i told my doctor today that i started treatment and he was quite happy with it.

Luciie, my thyroid was overactive to begin with and i took medication, (carbimazol) for 4 yrs but it didnt work so i had to have my thyroid removed. i wonder if it was because of a root canal or mercury?

Oh, I know what you mean. I have been trying to eat healthier/trying some of the candida diet, but with 4 kids and a husband hungry all the time, I am having a hard time keeping with it. Most of the time, I only have the time/energy to fix one meal, let alone two.

Last week when I went to the Dr, of course he didn't believe me about the mercury thing. He said all of my symptoms sound like thyroid, so he did a blood test, and it came out normal (he also did a random blood sugar check, and it was 98). Everyone is like, "Don't you feel so relieved?"....huh? I still have something wrong with me, how could I feel relieved? I KNOW that it is mercury mimicking thyroid, diabetes and everything else, just NO ONE ELSE in the world understands that, except for you guys.

I stopped using fluoride toothpaste as i noticed the dizziness / neck pressure started getting worse right after brushing my teeth.
After a blood test earlier this year showed underactive thyroid, i thought i would try and intake more iodine.
I now use iodised table salt to brush with. [probably not a lot absorbed but better than nothing]
A further test showed that thyroid level had gone back to normal but.. i would say its a borderline case.
Anyway, for UK ppl u can buy this from LIDLs.. 13 pence! Also, I notice Boots now does a fluoride-free mint toothpaste.

Thank you for your sympathy. You're right, nobody else knows what we are going through. Can you tell more about your symptoms? I think I'm maybe just mad with all these feelings of being ill... it's just so hopeless-

I am sorry, I must've missed where you asked me what my symptoms were. I was back reading this thread and saw that I should've responded to you.

Well, Every couple of weeks or so, I get a sore throat, but it goes away on it's own. My glands in my neck swell and then go down, every few days. I can feel glands swelling all the way down in my neck, chest, shoulders and breasts. They feel like knots (I am sure it's my lymphatic system on overload), and then they go away. Every few days I feel "something" in my throat. It feels like I swallowed something and it didn't go all the way down. It drives me NUTS! Usually it favors my right side, but now I am getting it on my left, too. I got sick a few months ago, and had to go to the emergency room (had no insurance and that's the only place that would treat me), and they felt the glands in my neck and shoulder, and didn't think much of it. I told them about the feeling in my throat, like something was stuck and like my throat was "closing up", and AS ALWAYS they don't seem to find anything wrong, so they stick you on a coarse of antibiotics, that doesn't WORK. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> They just asked me if I ate anything weird or unusual that I could've been allergic to, and of course, I didn't)

If I press firmly (which I try not to do often) on the point in the front of my throat, where the Adam's Apple thing is, it hurts. I can feel it deep inside. That is just my throat/gland conditions. My symptoms are endless. I am only 35 and should be in the prime of my life. My husband just got a new job, we own a home, I have beautiful children....I have everything going for me, but my health. It was all because I was in a car wreck as a teenager, that changed my life. I realize now, that it went back THAT far. I broke off a tooth in the wreck, and the dentist put a crown in my mouth. That is where it began, and then 2 1/2 years later, my gallbladder gave out. I vomited constantly and no one could figure out what was wrong. Throwing up ruined my teeth, so a year later I had all of my bad teeth fixed. It has been a "domino effect" and it has ruined my life. From the time I was a teenager, to now, my life has been in shambles, and I never could figure out why. Now, that it all makes sense, I intend to fix it, and let everyone know what caused it!!!!
