I have been taking about 600mg of magnesium for nearly 6 months now and was wondering if you need to take calcium with it. I read somewhere yesterday that you can become deficient in calcium if you take high levels of magnesium for long periods of time. Does anyone know if this is true?

From what I can gather, if you eat any dairy products, broccoli etc. then you are probably getting plenty of calcium. I haven't read anywhere that taking mg will cause your calcium levels to drop-actually on the contrary. You can't assimulate your calcium without enough mg.
I have been taking 800-1000mg a day for a couple of years now and was taking @600mg for another couple of years before that. I wouldn't recommend for any mercury toxic person to take calcium, because we are so deficient in mg since hg blocks it.
My mother was taking calcium for years because she was diagnosed with osteoporosis and was having many problems from it. I finally convinced her to stop taking calcium and start taking mg. After a year or so, her test show no more bone loss (she was continuing to lose on the calcium).
