Does anyone know where Uk people can get tested for heavy metals, and what is the best way to test. I have heard hair tests are the best. Thanks.

Hi Dawn, I originally had a hair mineral analysis test but I've since heard that it's not the most reliable test to have done. I then had a Kelmer urine test done and took the results to my doctor. He couldn't understand them so phoned a heavy metal specialist in my area who said that Kelmer tests are highly unreliable. I then has a lymphocyte sensitivity blood test done at Biolab in London. I think that this is the best as it accurately tells you how sensitive you are to mercury (you can have other heavy metals tested as well) My results showed that I was highly sensitive to mercury so then knew I had to have my amalgams removed. Hope this helps x

Dawn,
I've read and been told by my doctor that hair tests are not a good test for mercury. It can tell you about mineral levels and other things, but mercury will only show up in your bloodstream or hair if you were recently exposed and it is still floating around your system (before it stores itself in your bones and tissues). But some of the challenge tests (DMPS, DMSA, EDTA) that are pretty good for finding metals, tend to have a whole lot of risk associated with them. So if you go that route, read up on it first, and be careful.
Sorry I can't point you to one that is safe AND works! Anyone else have some suggestions? Because I am struggling with the same issue, only I'm in the US.

Lucie,
Whoops, I must have skimmed over your post and just now read your suggestion for the test. So that last test you mentioned tests sensitivity....does it test for mercury in your body though? I just had my amalgams removed, so the ongoing source is something I no longer have to worry about. But if it's feasible (& affordable...not likely!) I would like to test to see how severe my mercury toxicity is and if other metals are an issue.
Thanks, ~Tia

Thanks Lucie, and Tia, i just want something in black and white to show people that im ill with this. Thats another thing that makes this hard is that its hard to prove to your family or doctor that you have been poisoned by years of mercury in your mouyth.
