Hey all,
I have an opportunity to go to London with my husband (his business) probably a "once in a life time" thing so I feel like I should take advantage of it. The problem is, I don't know if I can take a 8 hour flight and all the restrictions (can't take my own food, water, supplements <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />) and what little blood flow that I have will just stop after sitting that long.
Also, with such a time difference (6 hours) sleep will be a hugh issue. I've never been able to sleep on a plane. Someone mentioned that there are herbs that will "knock you out", I don't want to take anything risky, but then I don't want to go insane on the plane either.
Does anyone have any tips or ideas for surviving a long plane trip???

Missy: I don't want my suppliments "radiated", so I wear a skirt with big pockets, and put my suppliments in plastic bags in my pockets. Just be sure they aren't bulging.

Have you traveled since the terrorist threat? I didn't think you could take anything on. I told my husband I was going to sneak my supplements on with me and he said I could get into trouble-they may think I'm a terrorist!

Missy,
The natural herb I use to help with sleep is valerian root. It's totally natural, and I haven't heard of any bad side effects or interactions (except not to drink or operate machinery when using it!). I recently started using NOW brand liquid valerian root extract, and it helps tremendously. I've been super stressed out lately from going back to school, starting a new job, etc....so I have had heart palpitations and major problems in getting to sleep. The valerian root does knock me out though, only it takes about 45 minutes to kick in. It's super cheap too.
I hope your flight goes well. It can be problematic taking supplements on flights, and that was before the latest security increase. I didn't want my x-rayed either, so they had to individually test them to make sure they weren't hazardus - it was quick, but they of course argued with me about the necessity. Just make sure everything is in it's original bottle, or else they can give you a hard time or throw it out. You might want to call the airline you will be flying with to find out about their policies on vitamins/supplements - that's what I did before I flew last. And on the plane, maybe you can ask for extra water or something, so they no longer allow it to be brought.
Good luck and have fun on your trip!
~Tia
