I found this forum searching for help for mercury toxicity. I've been very sick for over two years, have been to multiple doctors, have spent thousands of dollars looking for healing, and have been getting worse. Finally, I think that I've found the answer (at least the source of the problem).
A little more than two years ago, I had four old mercury fillings removed. The dentist did it because he thought it would "look better." He did not take any precautions and I breathed in all the vapors and even swallowed chunks of old filling. Shortly after that, I began having bad heart palpitations, insomnia, and heavy heavy menstrual cycles. Then the fatigue hit like bomb. I was a full time teacher at the time and I could barely stay awake throughout the day. I started to have vision problems (double vision and blurry vision), ringing ears, and foggy thinking. I had always had high energy and was very quick witted (I had to be as a middle school teacher). I started to struggle for words, would lose things, and would sometimes blank out all together. I started to get numb extremities and had strange crawling sensations in my scalp. The heart palpitations started to cause me to get dizzy and black out. I went to the doc. who ran all the standard heart tests which came back negative.
My scalp suddenly broke out in a rash, as did my skin. The dermatologist put me on a long term antibiotic. That made everything worse. Finally, the thing that has been hardest on me happened, my hair started to fall out. Not thin out, but fall - like rain from all over my head. That did it! I went on a doctor quest. One put me on spironolactone even though all my hormone levels were low (including testosterone). That was a disaster. I spent thousands on kinesiology - he tried every hormone and thyroid supplement - that caused a severe reaction.
My neurological symptoms got worse. I started having panic attacks and suicidal thoughts (awful for me - as a Christian I knew better!) I also couldn't control my emotions - small things got me really angry and would cause me to lash out.
My blood tests showed polycythemia (high hemaglobin); went through bond marrow tests - genetic tests - nothing! Then I came up with elevated ANAs and a positive Rheumatoid Factor test. Ah, autoimmune. The Rhuematologist was no help at all.
I finally ditched all pharmaceuticals and went to a Naturopath. Inositol helped insulin resistance - Vit. C , E, selenium, beta-carotene, and B's are all I can handle. I react to all herbs and multi-vitamins. I tried NAC and after 3 days had a violent reaction - manic behavior and total insomnia - burning scalp and massive hair loss, along with a metallic taste in my mouth. Based on this reaction, my naturopath deduced that I probably have mercury poisoning.
Now I'm in a place where any detox (or anti-fungal or probiotic) causes a terrible burning in my head and massive hair loss. If I push through, the neurological symptoms get dangerous, so I have to stop.
I ordered Andy Cutler's book, but don't know if I can handle DMSA. My Naturopath doesn't want me to touch it, but she has no answers for me. If anyone out there can relate or offer any advice, I'd be forever grateful.
I've had to quit my job - we are not able to make it on one income - I don't know the person in the mirror any more - and I'm making my family miserable. My body is broken and my faith is very thin at this point. I'm trying to hold on to a sliver of hope. This forum seems to have some answers. I hope so.
