I finished getting my amalgams out in February and have been wanting to do some chelating, but my ND wants me to get my digestion working really well. I did take a garlic supplement and got severe anxiety and panic attacks...won't do that again anytime soon...and yet raw garlic is fine for me.
Anyway I have heard that the body chelates naturally for several months afterwards and to take it easy on foods containing sulphur. Well lo and behold, I quit my green shakes and I am feeling way better. I think between the eggs and greens and veggies I am eating, I was chelating too much. Has this happened to anyone else, not complaining but I am wondering if I will maybe not need to use DMSA? Any ideas?

Hi Sandi, yeah the body can chelate naturally once all amalgams are out (to a point). But some people prefer to reduce it faster with DMSA and also it can help symptoms (sometimes). It can also aggravate them too other times.
But most people's bodies are not overly well equipped to chelate mercury and need extra help. Problem is, sometimes mobilising mercury can make matters worse, which is why many now are using andy cutler's protocol to try and move the mercury without creating the random ups and downs in the process (creating more damage). That's why sulfur foods can make you feel worse as you found out. Just bounces it round more.
Many people, after about 6 months to a year after removal, can begin to get much worse out of the blue. Often feeling repoisoned. This is because once the last amalgam comes out, the mercury still in the organs from years of build up begins to automatically be dumped out of the organs and this is where people can really cop it. Its' like a leaking tap.
which is why it's a good idea to chelate if you can to try and lessen or avoid this "second stage of suffering". DMSA is a good one to use, but only chelates extracellular mercury. The one that removes organ mercury (intracellular) and brain mercury is lipoic acid. But this can only be used once blood/body levels of mercury are lower (from either waiting till they go down naturally, or using DMSA to bring them down faster).
And then you can use lipoic acid, but as far as I know, it's got to be used every 3 hours around the clock in order to keep a steady blood level of it and allow for safe removal of mercury. Used at low enough levels so the person can tolerate it. Some use as low as 10 mg or less at first before they are able to go up higher. Using it for 3 days every week or so.
That's just what I've read is the best way of doing it. So long as it's used no earlier than 3 months after a mercury exposure (amalgam removal etc). Or if there has been a bad redistribution from something, then a person may need to let that reaction subside first or use DMSA to try and reduce it before using ALA.

I was wondering if anyone here has experienced the second stage of suffering? I wonder if that only applies to people who dont take all the right supps, diet, (strict), alot of people still dont do the diet properly, ie, eating sugar, chocolate, dairy, gluten, yeast. I am so strict with the diet, i havn't had sugar in well over a year, i wonder if thats why i feel so bad cos im detoxing all the time. Also i dont eat gluten or yeast or dairy. Its so boring though, im sure a bar of chocolate would cheer me up, i have lost so much weight also, im a bag of bones, i look, anorexic and ill. Sorry for going on!

I think the second stage of suffering can occur to most mercury toxic people. It's just the body's way of tryng to dump it's storage of mercury (once the last amalgam has been removed). For some reason, it does not usually occur right away, but instead months later or even up to a year or more later.
It can be reduced and quickened by safe chelation so that the blood gets cleared faster.
It's very difficult when yu're trying to do all the right things and you feel like garbage. If you're a bag of bones and you feel your diet is too strict, you could try including more fatty things in it and a bit of fruit if you tolerate it. Sometimes one has to do that, but not overindulge in junkfood. I have things like meat with the fat left on it and plain acidophilus yoghurt (full fat) and raw nuts and things. If I didn't do that, I hate to think what weight I would be. I'm thin enough as it is.
(and yep I've experienced the second stage of suffering, it occured about a year or more after my last amalgam was removed, prolonged and nasty and I did not know about the importance of regular safe chelation, I just did bits of random detox).

Thanks for all your answers Bex, you seem to know so much about all this stuff, and boy is there ever alot to learn, no wonder MD's don't want to tackle it.
I seem to be having more problems recently, I look and feel better physically but mentally I feel kind of weird....my ND wants me to do chelation with 100 mg of DMSA but I am afraid to start it, I am chelating just by eating cabbage soup and green shakes...so what would the DMSA do? Yikes I am scared to find out. I know that is the wrong dosage according to Cutler, I guess I better bite the bullet and buy his book.
I went thru a horrible anxiety and panic attack with a concentrated garlic supplement recently and never want to experience anything like that again..it must be awful to be insane....and that is what I felt.
Thanks for letting me vent!!!
Sandi

Hi Sandi, yes, the garlic had done the same thing to me and I thought I was going insane and II have still not recovered from it and it was months ago now. It's done some damage to my gut area, plus caused worse brain and nervous system symptoms.
DSMA is ok for mercury but can push more mercury into the brain and nervous system if not used appropriately, which I can sadly attest to. If you are like me, you could be highly sensitive to movement of mercury and when it goes into worse areas, you could be like me and react severely and not recover properly from it or it does something bad long term.
Just using DMSA according to Andy is probably the safest plan, though of course, it can be hard as any movement of mercury can just about devastate me. But with DMSA done his way, there is little danger of it going into brain etc.
It's not difficult really, just irritating because you have to take it every 4 hours around the clock, which means waking up. But hey, it's worth it, if it evenly moves mercury and doesn't cause random movement and further risk.
Of course, it's up to you, everybody is different. But if you do get his book, you will indeed find out exaclty why he does this method and how he came to find this for himself and others.
Best wishes.

I had a hard time with weak chelators like garlic and green stuff too, it felt like it was just mixing stuff up in my brain. DMSA was better, like more was getting cleaned up. Now I am on DMPS IV's and they are the best for me.

Sandi I had all my amalgams removed 2 years ago. 6 of my 19 roots were canaled. My biological dentist redid all of these plus one more. He removed the filler and the metal posts and replaced each of them with an inert substance. He did do this in quadrant sequence. He then did impressions for crowns and bridges which were installed the next week. So within 2 months I not only had every particle of mercury removed from my mouth but also any other metallic items.- such as nickel in a front lower bridge of 5 teeth. I have detoxed agressively with ND's the last 2 years. One of the ND's has been Dr. Hal Brown of Vancouver, B.C. I have been having some great days but of course occasionally have a herx day or two that throws me back. That seems to be the standard. I will say that the last week has been one of the best I can remember. So, I figure, If it has taken 2 years to get over 45 years of poison I shold be ecstatic. I hope I haven't spoken too soon but I finally feel as if I am past the half way point. I am just coming up on my second anniversary of this and am really optimistic that the future looks even greater

Thanks for all your replies. Alcan, I simply cannot afford to redo all the root canals and I have read over and over that there is no such thing as a safe root canal. I just turned 55 last week, have not been well enough to work for years and cannot afford to do them. It would be much cheaper to get them out and get a bridge. AT my age, I want a maintenance free mouth, I do not want to be sitting in a dentist chair at the age of 75 getting root canals cleaned out, if I live that long.
I tend to agree with Bex, but I still have reservations about going to Mexico. What if something went wrong and I had to be hospitalized for infection..sometimes the stuff that comes out of old root canals can be very toxic and to an already compromised immune system, can be deadly. I don't think my medical insurance would cover my costs if I was doing elective dental work out of country.
Well I am going back to my dentist soon, I have been putting it off, but I can taste the metals in my bridge when I brush, so that has to come out for sure.
Thanks for all your support, it means alot to me to know that I am not alone in this battle.
Sandi xo

Thanks Promagma, that is very interesting and I am so glad to hear that, I thought my body was doing too much chelating already, but as you say maybe the others are more efficient. I can't wait to get started with the formal chelators, but I will wait until all the metals are out.
thanks again, Sandi xoxo
