I am new to this forum and am in the process of getting 11 amalgums out. i have 3 crowns, and i think 2 root canals under them. i understand there is no way to know if amalgums are under the crowns, so it seems i have to have the dentist remove them to see if there is any silver there. does anyone have any other suggestions?

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question. I did want to suggest that you be sure the amalgams are being removed by a dentist that take all of the proper safety precautions. I know of some people who have become sick after having amalgams removed by dentists that did not take safety precautions. I had mine removed in July of 2000 and had a dramatic recovery. If you're interested, here's my story: http://herballure.com/mmsBest of luck in your removal.

i actually have only 1 more amalgum to go for removal. the dentist is use is excellent and he uses good safety precautions. i have done some research, going to previous dentists and getting x rays. i believe that there is no silver under 2 of the 3 crowns. there is a titanium post though and the crowns are made of gold/porcelain. there may be silver underneath the 3rd crown. i don't know whether to have him check underneath. its probably a good idea since i want ALL the mercury out and for peace of mind. what are your thoughts on the likely hood of mercury under crowns? do dentists usually drill all the silver out before placing a crown? my understanding is some do, some don't.

I think you're right... some do and some don't.
I would also add to be careful with porcelain/ceramic fillings because they contain aluminum which, when mixed with mercury, is very toxic.
Keep us posted.
